Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens Episode 80: “The Bells Toll”
Greg stood in a white tent, wearing his black windbreaker, gray shirt with E-Hero symbol, and black sweatpants. He was in front of a mirror with a stick of deodorant in his hand. Should I…? Greg wondered, looking at the object in his hand. Then he grinned. Nah. Tossing it over his shoulder, he picked up his duel disk and strapped it to his arm. “Greg, this isn’t a duel” said a voice behind him. “It’s your special day!” Greg grinned. “I know Zane, but you guys won’t get the satisfaction nor the pleasure of catching me in a tux.” Zane Truesdale, who was decked out in a black tuxedo, grinned. “Too bad” Greg turned to face his friend. “You actually wanted to see me in that?” he asked, fingering the other man’s tuxedo like it was a dangerous disease. Zane laughed. “No, but some others do” Greg chuckled. “Yeah, like Sophia” The two laughed for quite awhile before sobering up. “Thanks for being my best man, Zane” Greg said. Zane gripped his friend’s shoulder. “What’re friends for?” Greg shook his head. “Your more of a brother than a friend, Zane.” Zane shrugged. “Thanks for the complement” Greg nodded and looked back at the mirror. “Screw this” He muttered. Turning away from the glass, he walked to the tent opening. “Where are you going?” Zane called after him. Greg stopped and turned back. “Getting married” he replied. “Wanna come?” Zane raised an eyebrow. “That could be misconstrued.” Greg rolled his eyes. “Perv”

A couple hours later, Greg stood at the end of a red carpet in front of a minister that he had hired to fly out to the Academy. It was a beautiful day: not a cloud was in the sky. It’s hard to imagine, Greg thought, that it’s all over. That was true. Just a few days ago, Greg—with the help of Yang—had defeated Hell Kaiser and fulfilled his destiny. Now, it was a time of happiness, a time of peace. “Ready?” asked Joe, who was one of the bridegrooms. Greg nodded and called out to the assembled guests (mainly Academy students) “Please be seated!” Once everyone had settled down, Greg flashed a thumbs up to Atticus. Seeing the signal, he took out his ukulele and started playing “Here Comes the Bride” and the audience rose to their feet. Greg grinned and muttered to Zane “He’s been practicing” Zane nodded “I remember the disastrous performance at Jaden and Alexis’ wedding” Greg winced. “Please don’t remind me. My eardrums still hurt” “Whoa” Joe muttered, staring up the aisle. Greg, Zane, Johan (bridegroom), and Jaden (bridegroom) all followed Joe’s gaze. Greg’s mouth dropped open. Walking down the aisle was Violet, surrounded by her attendants (maiden of honor: Sophia, flower girl: Alexis). But Violet wasn’t wearing the traditional white dress. Instead, she was wearing a white T-shirt, black jacket, her duel disk, and blue jeans. Bastion rolled his eyes, “Absolutely no decorum” Greg grinned. “That’s fine by me” When Violet reached Greg, he grasped her hand and whispered. “You look beautiful” Violet smirked. “You don’t look to shabby yourself” The minister cleared his throat, and Atticus stopped the music. Then he began, “Dearly Beloved, We are gathered here in the sight of God and these witnesses to unite Gregory Henry and Violet Jones in holy matrimony. As followers of Jesus Christ, they believe that God created marriage. In Genesis it says, ‘It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’ Greg and Violet, as you prepare to take these vows, give careful thought and prayer, for as you make them you are making an exclusive commitment one to the other for as long as you both shall live. Your love for each other should never be diminished by difficult circumstances, and it is to endure until death parts you. As God's children, your marriage is strengthened by your obedience to your Heavenly Father and His Word. Our Father, love has been your richest and greatest gift to the world. Love between a man and woman which matures into marriage is one of your most beautiful types of loves. Today we celebrate that love. May your blessing be on this wedding service. “Protect, guide, and bless Greg and Violet in their marriage. Surround them and us with your love now and always, Amen. You may now be seated.” There was a clattering of chairs as the assembled guest returned to their seats. “Who presents this woman and this man to be married to each other?” The minister asked to nobody in particular. Greg and Violet looked at each other. “Sir, there is a slight difficulty with that…” Violet began. “We don’t really have any parents” Greg finished. “My father died when I was 14, by my hand…” Greg stopped short, breathing deeply. Then he continued. “But I have no doubt that he would approve of this marriage” “My parents always taught me to think before I act, since I’m prone to rashness” Violet said. “Greg helps balance me out, and I him. We are the perfect match. My parents wouldn’t object either.” The minister smiled and continued, “Let me charge you both to remember, that your future happiness is to be found in mutual consideration, patience, kindness, confidence, and affection. Greg, it is your duty to love Violet as yourself, provide tender leadership, and protect her from danger. Violet, it is your duty to treat Greg with respect, support him, and create a healthy, happy home. It is the duty of each of you to find the greatest joy in the company of the other; to remember that in both interest and affection, you are to be one and undivided.” There was a long pause then the minister continued “Greg and Violet, you have made a very serious and important decision in choosing to marry each other today. You are entering into a sacred covenant as life partners in God. The quality of your marriage will reflect what you put into nurturing this relationship. You have the opportunity to go forward from this day to create a faithful, kind, and tender relationship. We bless you this day. It is up to you to keep the blessings flowing each and every day of your lives together. We wish for you the wisdom, compassion, and constancy to create a peaceful sanctuary in which you can both grow in love.” The minister then asked, “Greg, do you understand and accept this responsibility, and do you promise to do your very best each day to create a loving, healthy, and happy marriage?” Greg replied “Yes, I do.” “Violet, do you understand and accept this responsibility, and do you promise to do your very best each day to create a loving, healthy, and happy marriage?” the minister continued. Violet replied “Yes, I do.” Greg and Violet then turned and looked into each others eyes. Greg stared at the face of the girl—no, women—who had stood by him all these years, and felt a powerful surge of affection towards her. Greg then said, “ In the name of Jesus, I, Greg, take you, Violet, to be my wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, for as long as we both shall live. This is my solemn vow.” Violet replied, “ I, Violet, take you, Greg, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, 'til death do us part: according to God's holy ordinance, and thereto I pledge you my love and faithfulness.” The minister, clearing his throat again, then asked “May I see the rings?” After Kai handed them over, the minister said, “Let us pray.” After everyone bowed their heads, he continued “Bless, O Lord, the giving and receiving of these rings. May Greg and Violet abide in thy peace and grow in their knowledge of your presence through their loving union. May the seamless circle of these rings become the symbol of their endless love and serve to remind them of the holy covenant they have entered into today to be faithful, loving, and kind to each other. Dear God, may they live in your grace and be forever true to this union. Amen." Greg, taking one of the rings (a simple gold band with a diamond on it), then said “Violet, I give you this ring as a symbol of our vows, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I honor you.” Violet took the remaining ring and, upon sliding it upon his finger, said “Greg, I give you this ring as a symbol of our vows, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I honor you.” Greg looked at the ring and smiled: it was a simple gold band but the stone, instead of a diamond, was a stone that had three different colored stones fused into one: one green, one orange, and one purple. The minister, gesturing to the candles on either side of the soon-to-be couple, then continued “The two outside candles have been lighted to represent both your lives in this moment. They are two distinct lights, each capable of going their separate ways. As you join now in marriage, there is a merging of these two lights into one light. This is what the Lord meant when He said, ‘On this account a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall be one flesh.’ From now on your thoughts shall be for each other rather than your individual selves. Your plans shall be mutual, your joys and sorrows shall be shared alike. As you each take a candle and together light the center one, you will extinguish your own candles, thus letting the center candle represent the union of your lives into one flesh. As this one light cannot be divided, neither shall your lives be divided but a united testimony in a Christian home. May the radiance of this one light be a testimony of your unity in the Lord Jesus Christ.” The minister then finished “Because Greg and Violet have desired each other in marriage, and have witnessed this before God and our gathering, affirming their acceptance of the responsibilities of such a union, and have pledged their love and faith to each other, sealing their vows in the giving and receiving of rings, I do proclaim that they are husband and wife in the sight of God and man. Let all people here and everywhere recognize and respect this holy union, now and forever. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up the light of his continence upon you, and give you peace. Greg, you may now kiss your bride.” “Thank God” Greg muttered. Then their two faces met. After a couple of seconds they broke apart, both sporting huge grins. Zane nudged Jaden. “Look at them. They’re like kids on Christmas” Jaden laughed. “Soon, they’ll have that!” The minister then announced, “It is now my privilege to introduce to you for the first time, Mr. Gregory and Mrs. Violet Henry!” Greg grasped Violet hand and looked at her. Finally, they were together…forever.

2 hours later at the Duelist Academy Arena…
Greg looked around, a glass of water in his hand. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Several couples were dancing. Violet, Sophia, Christy, and Alexis were talking animatedly. Jaden, Kai, Johan, and Mars were laughing at a joke told by Joe. Yet something was bugging Greg…like he was forgetting something… Suddenly, Zane walked next up next to him. “Enjoying the celebrations?” Greg smiled. “Yeah, just thinking…” Zane looked at him. “About what?” Greg shook his head. “Something that I might be forgetting…” “Oh, you mean…” Zane held up his left arm to reveal his duel disk, his deck already in its slot. “this?” Greg stared…then broke into a grin. “Yeah” Greg raised his duel disk in return and slid his deck in. “That” Zane smirked as the two walked to the dueling platform and climbed up. “I did promise you, after all.” Greg and Zane walked to the opposite ends of the platform and then faced each other. “It’s time to find out which one of us is better” Greg announced. Zane nodded. “Don’t hold back” Greg smirked. “I don’t plan to” The two men activated their duel disks as the wedding guests (and members) flocked to the arena’s seats. “Let’s Duel!”
Greg – 8000 Zane – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Greg got Avian, Burstinatrix, Polymerization, Skyscraper, and Hero Barrier. Zane got Proto-Cyber Dragon, Pot of Greed, Cyber Dragon, Sakuretsu Armor, and Ring of Destruction. “Who goes first?” Greg asked. Zane shrugged. “It’s your wedding day. You go” Greg grinned. “With pleasure” he replied, drawing his first card. (Clayman) “I summon Elemental Hero Clayman in DEF mode! (2000 DEF)” In a flash, the brown-bodied hero with the red head appeared on one knee with his arms crossed in front of him. “I then set on card facedown (Hero Barrier) and end my turn” Zane drew his next card. (Polymerization) “I Special Summon my Cyber Dragon in ATK mode! (2100 ATK)” in a flash of blue electricity, the famous silver metallic dragon appeared. “Now, I summon Proto-Cyber Dragon in ATK mode! (1100 ATK)” In another flash, the smaller, darker version of Cyber Dragon appeared in front of Zane. “Now, Cyber Dragon, attack Clayman! Strident Blast!” Cyber Dragon opened its mouth and unleashed a blast of orange energy at Clayman… “Hold on!” Greg announced. “I activate Hero Barrier!” Suddenly, a green shield erupted in front of Clayman, absorbing the energy blast. “My Trap lets me stop your attack since I have a Hero on the field!” Zane nodded. “I set one card facedown (Sakuretsu Armor) and end my turn.” Greg drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed to draw two more cards. (De-Fusion and Instant Fusion) Now, I activate Polymerization! I fuse Avian and Burstinatrix together to form Elemental Hero Flame Wingman! (2100 ATK)” The monster that emerged from the vortex had a black, red, and green body, a black head with red eyes, a red dragon head arm, a green claw arm, and one white wing coming out of his back. “Flame Wingman, attack Proto-Cyber Dragon! Flame Shot!” Flame Wingman leapt into the air and fire a fireball from its dragon arm… “Trap Card go!” Zane announced. “My Sakuretsu Armor will destroy your Flame Wingman!” Suddenly, a purple aura surrounded Greg’s monster. Greg narrowed his eyes. “I activate the Quick-Play Spell De-Fusion! This splits my Flame Wingman back into its separate parts!” In a flash, Flame Wingman split into two humanoids: Avian (1000 ATK) and Burstinatrix (1200 ATK). Zane snarled. “Blast, that negates Sakuretsu Armor since it has no target!” Greg grinned. “Yeah, but I’m not done yet! Burstinatrix, attack Proto-Cyber Dragon! Hero Firestorm!” Burstinatrix leapt into the air, gathered a ball of fire between her hands, and fired it at Zane’s small dragon, blasting it apart.
Greg – 8000 Zane – 7900
Greg then made a fist. “Now I activate Instant Fusion! I fuse Avian and Burstinatrix together once more to form Elemental Hero Phoenix Enforcer! (2100 ATK)” In a flash, the hero with a claw gauntlet, red and black body, a dragon tail, and Avian’s head and wings appeared on the field. “Also, my new monster can’t be destroyed in battle! Phoenix Enforcer, attack and destroy Cyber Dragon!” The hero leapt towards the dragon and slashed it across the “chest” area, making it explode. Zane watched with a snarl on his face. Greg smirked. “I end my turn” Zane drew his next card. (De-Fusion) “I activate Pot of Greed to draw two new cards. (Monster Reborn and Cyber Dragon) Since I have no monsters, I’ll just toss out another Cyber Dragon.” In a flash, the dragon reappeared on the field. “Next, I’ll activate Monster Reborn to bring back my second Cyber Dragon” In a flash, the fallen dragon rejoined its brother on the field. “Now I activate Polymerization and fuse my two monsters together to form Cyber Twin Dragon! (2800 ATK)” In a flash, the two-headed version of Cyber Dragon appeared. “And my Dragon gets to attack twice, so Cyber Twin Dragon, attack Phoenix Enforcer with Twin Evolution Burst!” The two heads opened their mouths and fired two blasts of orange energy at the hero, who, despite the barrage, stayed strong.
Greg – 6600 Zane – 7900
“I end my turn” Zane said. Greg drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity to draw three cards (Necroshade, Bladedge, and Negate Attack) and discard two (Negate Attack and Necroshade). Next, I activate Skyscraper!” As Greg slid the card into its slot, towering buildings erupted around the duelists. “Here, my Heroes gain an extra 1000 ATK when attacking monsters stronger then them. (PE: 2100 à 3100 ATK) Phoenix Enforcer, attack Cyber Twin Dragon with Justice Slash!” The hero leapt up towards Zane’s double threat, claw arm raised… “De-Fusion, go!” Zane called out, sliding the named card into his duel disk. “My Cyber Twin Dragon splits back into its separate parts and your attack is cancelled!” Right when Phoenix Enforcer brought his claw down, Zane’s monster split into its two parts and the claw sliced harmlessly between them. Greg narrowed his eyes. “I end my turn” he said as his hero returned to him. Zane drew his next card. (Card of Sanctity) “I activate Card of Sanctity! We each draw cards until we have 6 in our hands! (Greg: Super Polymerization, Ring of Destruction, Battle Fusion, Bubbleman, and Miracle Fusion. Zane: Raigeki, Limiter Removal, Cyber Dragon, Power Bond) I now activate Power Bond! I fuse my three Cyber Dragons together to form Cyber End Dragon! (4000 ATK)” In a blaze of blue lightning, the tri-headed, wing-bearing dragon appeared in front of Zane. “And since he was summoned by Power Bond, his ATK doubles! (4000 à 8000 ATK) Now Cyber End Dragon, destroy Clayman! Super Strident Blaze!” The three heads opened their mouths and unleashed a torrent of orange energy and the hero, blasting it apart in seconds.
Greg – 600 Zane – 7900
“I now activate Raigeki!” Zane announced. “This destroys your last monster!” Suddenly, a lightning bolt from the heavens struck Greg’s Hero, blasting it apart. Zane smirked. “I set one card facedown (Ring of Destruction), end my turn, and take 4000 from Power Bond.”
Greg – 600 Zane – 3900
“Wow” Johan remarked, “What a duel!” “These two aren’t giving any quarter” Jaden agreed. “But who’s gonna win?” Atticus asked. Violet grinned. “If I know my husband, he’ll turn it around next turn” Greg drew his next card. (Sparkman) “I activate the ability of Necroshade! Since he’s in my graveyard, I can summon my Elemental Hero Bladedge without tribute! (2600 ATK)” In a flash the gold hero with gold wings, gold arm blades, and green orbs on his chest appeared. “And thanks to Skyscraper, he gets an extra 1000! (2600 à 3600 ATK)” Zane raised an eyebrow. “You’re attacking?” “You bet!” Greg exclaimed. “Bladedge, attack Cyber End Dragon! Power Edge Attack!” “Cyber End Dragon, counterattack!” Zane announced. “Super Strident Blaze!” “But that’s crazy!” Joe exclaimed. “Greg will lose!” Jaden smiled. “No he won’t. Watch!” Greg was smiling. “I activate Battle Fusion!” he announced holding the card up. “My Bladedge gains ATK equal to your Dragon’s ATK! (2600 à 10600 ATK)” Zane smirked. “Sorry Greg, that’s not enough. I activate Limiter Removal! This doubles my Dragon’s ATK! (8000 à 16000 ATK)” Greg closed his eyes and smiled. “Super Polymerization, go!” Suddenly, the sky above the two behemoths turned black and crackled with electricity. Jaden’s mouth dropped open. How did he…?! Zane stared up at the ceiling in wonder. Greg was grinning. “By discarding my Miracle Fusion, I can fuse one monster on your side of the field with one on mine!” Zane smirked. “So that means…” Greg punched the air. “CYBER END DRAGON, BLADEDGE! JOIN TOGETHER!” The cybernetic monstrosity and the gold hero flew up to the swirling black vortex and entered it. Greg narrowed his eyes. “REVEAL YOURSELF, ELEMENTAL HERO CYBER EDGE!” The monster that emerged from the vortex had the outline of Bladedge, but the figure itself was different. He had silver armor with silver scales covering his body except his head, which was covered by a helmet shaped like the head of a Cyber Dragon with a visor where the eyes would have been. Two silver blades came out of his lower arms. Greg smirked. “My hero’s ATK is equal to the combined ATK of the Fusion Material monsters.” Zane paled. “But that’s 26600 ATK!!” Greg pointed at Zane. “AND THIS DUEL’S OVER! CYBER EDGE, ATTACK ZANE DIRECTLY! CYBER POWER SLASH!!” The hero raised his arms and leapt at Zane, who stood there with a calculating look on his face. “I reveal my facedown Trap!” he announced. “Activate, Ring of Destruction!” Greg smirk grew into a full-blown smile. “So, that’s how its gonna be, huh Zane?” Zane smiled. “Yes, Greg. My Trap will destroy your monster ,and we both take damage equal to your monster’s ATK” Greg watched as Cyber Edge was surrounded with a black aura and exploded. As the blast washed over him, he bowed his head…and smiled.
Greg – 0 Zane – 0
When the dust settled, Greg and Zane were both on their feet and sporting brilliant grins. “You fought well” Zane remarked, shutting down his duel disk. Greg nodded, panting. “Yeah. You too” Suddenly, a loud roar ripped through the arena. Greg and Zane looked around and saw their audience storming the field and running towards them. Violet reached them first and threw her arms around Greg. Sophia and Christy were next, the latter embracing both Greg and Zane. Then the other members of Team Evolution arrived and starting slapping their backs, ruffling their hair…pretty much showing any sign of congratulations they could. Greg finally managed to escape with Violet about 5 minutes later. They had reached the door before Sophia noticed them. “Hey!” she called after them. “Where are you two lovebirds going?” Greg and Violet and they turned around to look at their friends, the ones that had stayed with them for so long. Greg smiled. “Sorry guys. But these places and faces are getting old.” Greg looked at the ceiling, imagining the sky above it. Tears began to obscure his vision as he remembered everything he had been through, and everything he had seen, realizing that that part of his life was over, and a new chapter was beginning. “We’re going home”
