Episode 67: “Shocking Revelations”
Zane’s eyes were narrowed as he looked down upon the playing field. The next duel of the Duelist Academy Grand Championship was coming up: Christy (Zane’s fiancé) versus Hell Kaiser.
Greg looked at Zane. He had a feeling what was going through his rival’s head. He remembered their conversation from the night they arrived on the island…
(Flashback)
Greg was standing on the roof of Duelist Academy, remembering. It was at this spot where Violet defeated Marik and saved his soul. It was here where Timeaus showed his face. It was here where he first realized how much Violet meant to him.
Suddenly the door behind him opened. Greg turned around and saw Zane, whose face was contorted in thought. “Hey”
Zane snapped out of his thoughts. “Sorry. I didn’t know you were here. I’ll just go”
“No stay” Greg replied, studying his expression. It seemed calm, but his eyes were smoldering with concern and…worry? “Plenty of roof to go around”
Zane cracked a smile and stood beside him. For a few minutes the two just stood there and stared at the setting sun.
Suddenly, Greg spoke. “What’s bugging you?”
“Nothing” Zane replied…a little too quickly.
Greg rolled his eyes. “Zane something’s bugging you. I can feel it radiating off you. So just spit it out”
Zane sighed. “It’s Hell Kaiser” Greg stayed silent, waiting for him to continue. “I’m worried”
“Who is this Hell Kaiser? I’ve been asking around but nobody’s saying anything”
“Well…” Zane began hesitantly. “He’s me”
Greg was confused. “Come again?”
Zane sighed again. “A while back, when I first turned pro, I dueled Aster Phoenix and was humiliated. I was approached by a man called Shade and performed underground duels to amuse people. I was only concerned about winning. They called me ‘Hell Kaiser’
“Then came the Genex Tournament. I dueled and got some medals…but I hurt Syrus in a Hell Duel. I left after Chazz won and kept on dueling.
“During that time, my priorities began changing. I remembered why I originally began dueling: to have fun. I remembered about respecting my opponent. I began to distance myself from Hell Kaiser, until he became his own person.
“Then came the Yubel Crisis. After losing to Yubel, I decided to change my ways forever. To never be Hell Kaiser. I cast off the name and became Zane again.”
“But you said that he became ‘his own person’” Greg said, trying to comprehend everything. “So that means…?”
“He must’ve escaped the different dimension” Zane finished.
The two were silent. Then Greg asked “Does anyone else know?”
Zane smiled grimly. “Jaden, Syrus, Tyranno, Chazz, Alexis, Atticus, Johan, Axel, Adrian, Aster, Jim and now you”
“Why not tell Christy?” Greg wondered, but then it hit him. “You’re scared Hell Kaiser might find out about the two of you?”
Zane nodded, and Greg could see tears in his eyes. Greg put a hand on his shoulder. “Hey, it’s okay. Hell Kaiser can’t be that bad. We’ve faced a whole lot worse than him. He’ll be a piece of cake” With that, Greg turned and walked away.
Zane stayed put until the sun set. Greg, you have no idea what Hell Kaiser can do. He’s unlike anyone you’ve faced before.
(End Flashback)
This is Zane’s worse fear, Greg realized, seeing Christy in this situation. Maybe Hell Kaiser is a big deal after all…
Speaking of the two contestants, they had just finished shuffling their decks and they put them in their activated duel disks. “Before we duel, we have to set the field”
“What do you mean?” asked Christy.
“Where going to duel my way” Hell Kaiser replied simply. He bent down and opened his briefcase. In it were a bunch of bands with spikes coming out of the ends. He took a few of them out and tossed them to Christy. “Put these on”
“What do they do?” Christy asked as she complied.
Hell Kaiser gave an evil smile. “Oh, let’s just say they’re going to give you…a shocking experience”
Zane heard what his past self said and saw the look that had crossed his face. He would’ve leapt over the railing and onto that no good idiot but he was restrained by Greg, Sophia, Violet, Chazz, and Johan.
“And I thought Violet had a nasty temper” Sophia muttered to Greg, who smiled in return.
“Let’s Duel!” Christy called out.
Christy – 8000 Hell Kaiser – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Christy had Mystical Beast Wildhorn, Sakuretsu Armor, Summons of the Ancients, Mystical Draw, and Pot of Greed. Hell Kaiser had Infernal Dragon, Exploder Dragon, Cyberdark Impact, Cyberdark Edge, and Negate Attack.
Hell Kaiser drew the opening card. (Fusion Guard) “I summon Infernal Dragon in DEF mode (0 DEF), set a card facedown (Fusion Guard), and end my turn”
Christy drew her card. (Mystical Beast Crosswing) “I activate Mystical Draw! With this card I can discard a Mystical Beast monster from my hand (Crosswing) and then draw a new card. (Arsenal Summoner) I now summon Mystical Beast Wildhorn in ATK mode! (1700 ATK) And since my Mystical Beast Crosswing is in the graveyard, all my Mystical Beasts gain 300 ATK points! (2000 ATK) Wildhorn, destroy Axe Dragonite! And since Wildhorn’s ATK is higher than your monster’s DEF, you take damage equal to the difference!”
As the phantom sword passed through Hell Kaiser, the bands that were attached to his body released red electricity that hit him in various parts of his body. Amazingly, Hell Kaiser didn’t flinch.
Christy – 8000 Hell Kaiser – 6000
Greg turned to Zane. “What’s going on with those bands?”
Zane’s eyes never left the field. “When the wearer of the bands takes damage, the bands will shock you. The lower your LP gets, the higher the voltage”
Greg paled. “You mean…?”
Zane nodded. “This duel has become a torture match”
Hell Kaiser drew his next card. (Exploder Dragon) “I summon my Exploder Dragon in ATK mode! (1000 ATK) Now my dragon, attack her Wildhorn!”
“What the heck is he thinking?!” Johan exclaimed. “He’s just gonna lose LP again!”
“Nah” Tyranno replied. “He’s gonna take away the monster and keep his points”
“And how do you know?” asked Mars sharply.
“Watch” Chazz snarled.
The small dragon dropped its spiked bomb on the Mystical Beast. To everyone’s amazement (except Jaden, Zane, Tyranno, and Syrus’), both monsters were destroyed and neither player had lost LP!
“WHAT?!?!” screamed Team Evolution (minus Syrus, Zane, Tyranno, and Chazz).
Hell Kaiser gave a small smirk. “Exploder Dragon destroys the monster it battles and I take no damage”
Christy snarled and drew her next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Pot of Greed! With it I can draw two cards. (Celestial Sword—Eatos and Guardian Eatos) I now activate Graceful Charity! I now draw three cards (Mystical Beast Rock Lizard, Mystical Beast Barbados, and Monster Reborn) and discard two (Mystical Beasts Rock Lizard and Barbados). Now I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Mystical Beast Barbados! (3000 ATK) Now my monster, attack him directly!”
The shocks from this attack were so intense that Hell Kaiser was actually driven to his knees.
Christy – 8000 Hell Kaiser – 3000
Hell Kaiser drew his next card. (Dark Dragon Sacrifice) “I activate Dark Dragon’s Sacrifice! Now by sending one Dragon-Type monster from one of my decks to the grave (Five Headed Dragon) I can take up to three Cyberdark monsters from my deck to my hand! (Cyberdark Horn and Cyberdark Keel) Now I activate Cyberdark Impact! I now send Cyberdark Edge, Cyberdark Horn, and Cyberdark Keel back to my deck so I can summon CYBERDARK DRAGON! (1000 ATK) Now I can take a dragon in my grave, like Five Headed Dragon, equip it to my monster, and increase its ATK by the ATK of the equipped monster! (6000 ATK) Also, Cyberdark Dragon gains 100 ATK for every monster in my graveyard. (6200 ATK) Cyberdark Dragon, destroy Mystical Beast Barbados! Full Darkness Blast!”
As the leftovers of the attack swept over Christy, her shocking devices activated. Her entire body was assaulted by red bolts of lightning. She screamed loudly but stayed on her feet.
Christy – 4800 Hell Kaiser – 3000
Christy panted heavily as she drew her next card. (Arena Trial) “I activate Arena Trial! When you have a monster on the field, I can summon monsters equal to the amount of damage it dealt me last turn divided by 800, meaning I can summon four monsters! So behold: my two Marauding Captains (1200 ATK), my Arsenal Summoner, and my Mystical Beast Wildhorn! (2000 ATK) I now equip my Celestial Blade—Eatos to my Wildhorn, giving it an extra 300 ATK for every monster in my graveyard! (3200 ATK) I now sacrifice my Arsenal Summoner and one of my Marauding Captains to summon GUARDIAN EATOS! (2500 ATK) NOW MY MONSTER, ATTACK CYBERDARK DRAGON NOW!”
“What’s she up to?!” Johan exclaimed. “Her monster will just get destroyed!”
Greg smiled. “Calm it down Johan. That won’t happen. Just watch”
“Thanks to her special ability, Eatos increases her attack by the combined attack of all the monsters in my graveyard when she attacks! (2500+1300+1700+2200+3000+1200+1200=13100 ATK)”
Johan’s mouth fell open.
Christy smirked. “EATOS, SOUL SWORD SLASH!”
Eatos swung her sword at Cyberdark Dragon’s head. The stadium held its breath…
“Activate Fusion Barrier!” Hell Kaiser yelled. “By sending my Cyber End Dragon to the grave, I can negate all damage dealt this turn!”
Hell Kaiser drew his next card. (Limiter Removal) “This duel’s over! Since Cyber End Dragon is in the grave, Cyberdark Dragon has 6300 ATK! But now I activate Limiter Removal! This doubles my monster’s ATK! (12600 ATK)”
“NO!” Zane yelled. He dashed out of the box with Greg right on his heels.
“CYBERDARK DRAGON, OBLITERATE MARAUDING CAPTAIN! FULL DARKNESS BLAST!”
The dark red fire blasted away Christy’s Captain and washed over her, triggering her devices. The lightning assaulted her once again. This time, the scream was one of real pain, real torture…this time, she collapsed under the pain. And she didn’t get up.
Christy – 0 Hell Kaiser – 3000
“CHRISTY!” Zane yelled frantically as he, Greg, and the rest of Team Evolution made it to the arena. Zane flung himself beside his fiancé and carefully rolled her onto her back. Her eyes were barely open and her breathing was ragged.
“Zane…take care…of yourself…and Greg…get him…” she gasped.
Zane beckoned to Greg, who knelt by his sister and grasped her hand.
“Bro…” Christy smiled weakly. “My deck…”
Greg understood perfectly. He grabbed her deck and held out to her. Raising a shaking hand, she took it and looked through it. She took out two cards and gave them to him. “Get him…for me…” Christy muttered. “Keep…safe” With that, her eyes closed and her hand went limp.
Greg’s eyes were blinded with tears. She can’t be… Furiously, he stood up and whirled around to face Hell Kaiser. “What did you do?!”
Hell Kaiser smirked. “She interfered. She was dealt with. Nothing fatal. Just a Hell Coma.”
“Just a Hell Coma?!” Zane repeated furiously. “Why you…” He tried to run at him, but Greg held him back.
“Take care of yourselves” Hell Kaiser said coolly. With that, he turned around and strode away.
Greg released Zane, who immediately went back to the prone form of Christy. Suddenly, he was aware that he was holding something. He looked at the cards Christy had given him and his eyes filled with tears again.
They were Guardian Eatos and her equip spell.
