Episode 63: “Angels We Have Heard On High”
Everyone in the stands were still talking about Sophia’s win over Kaiba, so nobody noticed that both Alexis and Violet and left the box and had began walking down to the arena.
Jaden, whose mouth was still hanging open, finally came to his senses. “Uhh…now Game Two of the first round: Alexis Yuki, head of the Obelisk Blue dorms versus former Critias Purple student and Battle City runner-up Violet Jones!”
The two ladies stood at opposite ends of the platform. Violet gave a small smile. “This is it Alexis”
Alexis nodded. “I’ve changed my deck Jones. You’ll be hard-pressed to pull a repeat”
Violet activated her duel disk and put her deck in. “We’ll see about that Yuki”
Alexis activated her disk as well and placed her deck into the slot. “Let’s Duel!”
Violet – 8000 Alexis – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Violet had Shining Angel, Inferno Reckless Summon, Solar Ray, Warrior of Zera, and Sanctuary in the Sky. Alexis had Blade Skater, Cyber Gymnast, Polymerization, Double Passé, and Negate Attack.
Violet nodded her head. “You go first.”
“Gladly” replied Alexis and she drew her card. (Cyber Prima) “I summon Blade Skater in ATK mode! (1400 ATK) That’ll end my turn.”
Violet drew her next card. (Emergency Provisions) “I summon Shining Angel in ATK mode! I now activate Inferno Reckless Summon!”
Greg turned to look at Sophia, who had just entered the room with a huge bag of popcorn. “She played the card you gave her in Battle City” he commented after taking a handful
Sophia smiled. “I knew it would come in handy”
Back on the field, Violet, was explaining the card. “Inferno Reckless Summon only works when I summon a monster with 1500 or less ATK points. I can now Special Summon two more Shining Angels from my deck and you can do the same thing with your Blade Skaters. Now Shining Angels attack!”
“Why?” Johan wondered. “It’ll be a draw!”
“Shining Angel’s special ability allows Violet to search out more monsters to attack with this turn” Mars reminded him.
“Since my Shining Angels were destroyed in battle I can search for three LIGHT monsters with 1500 or less ATK and summon them to the field so come on out Hoshiningen times three! (500 ATK) And each of my monsters gives all other LIGHT monsters an extra 500 ATK points, which means each of my monsters has 2000 ATK! Attack her directly!”
Violet – 8000 Alexis – 2000
“Wow” Sophia commented. “I didn’t think that that was possible”
“Nobody has taken that big of a chunk out of Alexis’ LP by the second turn” Chazz agreed.
“Violet means business” Rose observed.
“Let’s just hope she doesn’t win, right cousin?” Greg joked, giving Sophia a sly glance, which was returned by a bonk on the head.
In the arena, Alexis drew her next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards. (Spirit Reaper and Spirit Barrier) I now summon Spirit Reaper in DEF mode! (300 DEF) I now activate Spirit Barrier! Now as long as I have a monster on the field, I don’t take any damage!”
“Aw man!” Violet groaned. “And Spirit Reaper can’t be destroyed in battle!”
Alexis nodded. “That’s right. Now I set two cards facedown (Double Passé and Negate Attack) and end my turn”
Violet drew her next card. (Archlord Zerato) “I activate Sanctuary in the Sky! Now whenever a Fairy is destroyed in battle I don’t take any damage! I now summon my Warrior of Zera and sacrifice it to summon my Archlord Zerato! (2800 ATK) And don’t forget the 1500 point boost from my other monsters (5300 ATK). And by discarding my Emergency Provisions, I can destroy all monsters on your side of the field! NOW MY MONSTERS, ATTACK HER DIRECTLY AND FINISH HER OFF!”
“Activate Negate Attack!”
Violet held her head in her hands and took deep breaths. “Go”
Alexis drew her next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity! This lets me draw three cards (Etolie Cyber, Warrior Returning Alive, and Cyber Angel Ritual) and discard two (Cyber Prima and Cyber Gymnast). I now activate the Warrior Returning Alive so Blade Skater can come back to my hand! Now I activate Polymerization! I fuse Etolie Cyber and Blade Skater together to summon Cyber Blader! (2100 ATK) Now Cyber Blader, destroy her Hoshiningen! And now Cyber Blader’s ability kicks in! Now all the abilities of your cards on the field are negated! (Hoshiningen: 500 ATK, Archlord Zerato: 2800 ATK)”
Violet drew her next card. (Airknight Parshath) “I sacrifice my Hoshiningen to summon Airknight Parshath! (1900 ATK) I end my turn”
“Why didn’t she attack?” Greg wondered.
“Alexis’ facedown. She’s nervous about it” Zane replied.
Alexis drew her next card. (Cyber Angel Benten) “Cyber Blader, destroy Hoshiningen!”
Violet – 5400 Alexis – 2000
“And since you have only two monsters on the field, Cyber Blader’s ATK is doubled! (4200 ATK) Alexis announced triumphantly.
“But the abilities of my cards come back.” Violet put in.
Alexis shrugged. “Oh well. Your move”
Violet drew her next card. (Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin) “I pass”
Alexis drew her next card. (Monster Reborn) “I activate Monster Reborn! Come back Cyber Prima! I now activate Cyber Angel Ritual! I sacrifice my Prima to summon Cyber Angel Benten! (1900 ATK) Blader, destroy Zerato! Benten, destroy Parshath! And thanks to its ability, Benten deals you damage equal to Parshath’s DEF!”
Violet – 4000 Alexis – 2000
Violet drew her next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards (Stray Lambs and The Splendid Venus). I now activate Stray Lambs! This gives me two little lambs which I now sacrifice to summon THE SPLENDID VENUS! (2800 ATK)”
The whole crowd gasped as the two lambs on Violet’s side of the field were shrouded by golden light and were carried into the air. At the appropriate altitude, they disappeared in a flash of light and in their place and floating to take its place in front of Violet, was a beautiful angel: Splendid Venus.
“SPLENDID VENUS, ATTACK CYBER BLADER! SPLENDID BLAZE!”
Alexis grinned. “Since you only have one monster on your side of the field, Cyber Blader can’t be destroyed!”
Violet grinned back. “And since Splendid Venus is on the field, your monster loses 500 ATK! (Cyber Blader: 2100à1600 ATK)”
Violet – 4000 Alexis – 800
Alexis drew her next card (Pot of Avarice). “I activate Pot of Avarice! I shuffle five monsters in my grave back into my deck and then I draw two cards. (Cyber Angel Ritual and Reckless Greed) I now activate Reckless Greed to draw two cards at the cost of my next draw phase (Cyber Angel Dakini and Cyber Tutu). I summon my Cyber Tutu in ATK mode! I now activate Cyber Angel Ritual! I sacrifice my two monsters to summon Cyber Angel Dakini! (2900 ATK) And thanks to its ability, you have to destroy one monster on your side of the field when it comes into play, so your monster is toast! Cyber Angel Dakini, attack her directly!”
Violet – 1100 Alexis – 800
Violet drew her next card. (Pot of Avarice) “I activate Pot of Avarice! I shuffle my Shining Angels, my Warrior of Zera and my Archlord Zerato back into my deck to draw two cards. (Monster Reborn and Reckless Greed) I now activate Reckless Greed! I draw two cards at the cost of my next draw phase (Emergency Provisions and Negate Attack). I set one card facedown and then I activate Emergency Provisions! I sacrifice my facedowns to gain 2000 LP!”
Violet – 3100 Alexis – 800
“And that’s not all! I activate Monster Reborn! Come back Splendid Venus! And now your Dakini loses 500 ATK! (2400 ATK) Venus, destroy Cyber Angel Dakini! Splendid Blaze!”
“I activate my Trap Card!” Alexis called out. “Double Passé! This negates your attack and instead our two monsters attack each other directly! Dakini, Cyber Slash!”
Violet grinned. She understood what Alexis was doing. “Venus, Splendid Blaze!”
The two monsters leapt past each other to their targets. Dakini slashed Violet across the waist while Venus unleashed a torrent of golden fire. As the dust settled, both duelists were on the ground, panting.
Violet – 700 Alexis – 0
Both girls got up and the crowd erupted.
“Why did Alexis activate the trap then?” Greg roared over the crowd.
“She knew she was going to lose!” Atticus explained. “She just wanted to end it on terms, that’s all.”
“Excellent job duelists!” called out Jaden, who was using the mike. “Now time to welcome our next contestants: Johan Anderson and Kai Motou!”
“MOTOU?!?!” yelled Team Evolution.
