Episode 64: “Crystal Clear Magic”
Last time on Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens:
“Excellent job duelists!” called out Jaden, who was using the mike. “Now time to welcome our next contestants: Johan Anderson and Kai Motou!”
“MOTOU?!?!” yelled Team Evolution.
The mouths of Team Evolution fell open as Johan and Kai, who was now revealed as the son of the former King of Games, made their way towards the dueling area.
“Sophia” Greg began slowly. “Did you know that you were dating—and possibly getting married to—the son of Yugi Motou?!”
Sophia just shook her head, too shocked to say anything.
On the arena, Johan was the exact opposite of the others: he was pretty much bouncing off the walls.
“This is awesome!” he cried out as he took out his deck from it circular container at his waist. His outfit was similar to the one he wore when he was possessed by Yubel, except everything was blue instead of red and black. “First I duel Jaden, then the King of Games, and now I’m dueling the son of a legend!”
Kai gave a small grin and put his deck into its slot and activated his duel disk. “I’m not going to be like the others Johan. I’m going to be a challenge”
The Master of the Crystal Beasts activated his disk (the same one he used while being possessed except its blue) and placed his deck in. “So will I Kai, because my deck is now complete. And you don’t stand a chance!”
“We’ll see about that. Let’s Duel!”
Kai – 8000 Johan – 8000
The two duelists drew their opening hands. Johan had Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus, Crystal Promise, Rare Value, Crystal Beacon, and Crystal Beast Emerald Turtle. Kai had Magician’s Valkyria, Magician’s Circle, Sage’s Stone, Black Magic Curtain, and Pot of Greed.
Johan drew the opening card. (Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle) “I summon Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus in ATK mode! (1800 ATK) And thanks to his ability, I can bring a Crystal Beast to my Spell/Trap Zone and I’ll choose Ruby Carbuncle. I set two cards facedown (Crystal Beacon and Rare Value) and end my turn.”
Kai drew his card. (Graceful Charity) I summon Magician’s Valkyria in ATK mode! (1600 ATK) I activate Magician’s Circle to summon another Valkyria in ATK mode. And thanks to their abilities, you can’t attack me!”
“Aw man!” Greg exclaimed. “Kai’s caught Johan in a lock!”
“But that’s not all!” Kai called out. “I activate Dark Magic Curtain! By paying half my LP I can summon Dark Magician Girl! (2000 ATK) I now activate Sage’s Stone to summon Dark Magician! Now Dark Magician Girl, destroy Pegasus! Dark Burning Attack! As for the rest of you, attack him directly!”
Kai – 4000 Johan – 1200
Johan drew his next card (Quick Summon). “I summon Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle in DEF mode (800 DEF) and then I activate Quick Summon! This lets me summon another monster this turn so rise Emerald Turtle (2000 DEF). Now I activate Rare Value! By sending my Sapphire Pegasus, which is in my Spell/Trap Zone because of your attack, to the grave I can draw two more cards. (Crystal Raigeki and Last Resort) I’ll set those cards facedown and end my turn.”
Kai drew his next card. (Dedication Through Light and Darkness) “I activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards (Dark Magician of Chaos and Dimension Distortion) and I’ll follow it up with Graceful Charity to draw three cards (Dark Magic Ritual, Magician of Black Chaos, and Thousand Knives) and discard two (Magician of Black Chaos and Dark Magician of Chaos). I set one card facedown (Dedication Through Light and Darkness) and attack with my monsters! (DMG: 2300 ATK because of Black Chaos in grave)”
“Well that’s a wrap folks!” Chazz exclaimed. “This was the quickest duel in history!”
“Don’t count Johan out just yet” Greg said.
“I activate my two facedowns!” Johan called out. “Crystal Raigeki and Last Resort! Crystal Raigeki allows me to destroy one card on your side of the field my discarding a Crystal Beast in my Spell/Trap Zone so by discarding Ruby Carbuncle I can destroy your Dark Magician Girl! Now I activate Last Resort! This allows me to activate my Ancient City-Rainbow Ruin from my deck! And since your Dark Magician and Valkyria destroyed two monsters, I’ve got two monsters in my Spell/Trap Zone, which allows me to halve to damage I would normally take from your last Valkyria thanks to my Field Spell!”
Kai – 4000 Johan – 400
Johan drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity! This let’s me draw three cards (Crystal Beasts Amber Mammoth and Topaz Tiger, Pot of Greed) and discard two (the beasts). I now activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards (Amethyst Cat and Rainbow Dragon). First I summon Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat in ATK mode! (1200 ATK) Now I have filled all the requirements!”
“What do you mean?” asked Kai.
“I have one of each Crystal Beast either on the field or in the Graveyard. Now I can summon my ultimate monster: RAINBOW DRAGON! (4000 ATK)”
“HOLY SMOKE!!!” roared Chazz and Tyranno.
“He has it?!?!” cried Violet.
“How?” wondered Zane.
Greg smiled. “Me”
“However, there’s still your lock to worry about, but no matter. I can decrease my Cat’s ATK by 600 (600 ATK) so she can attack you directly!”
Kai – 3400 Johan – 400
Kai drew his next card. (Dark Magician) “I sacrifice my two Valkyria to summon another Dark Magician! I now activate these two cards: Black Magic Ritual and Dedication Through Light and Darkness! I sacrifice both my Magicians to summon these two monsters: Magician of Black Chaos (2800 ATK) and Dark Magician of Chaos! (2800 ATK) And thanks to my second monster’s ability, I can bring Pot of Greed back to my hand! Now Magician of Black Chaos, destroy Amethyst Cat and finish this!”
“I activate the ability of Rainbow Dragon!” Johan called out. I remove all Crystal Beasts on the field to the grave to increase my Dragon’s ATK by 3000 points permanently! (7000 ATK)”
Kai snarled. “Fine, I activate Pot of Greed, draw two cards (Dark Magic Attack and Magical Hats), set one card facedown (Negate Attack), and end my turn.”
Johan drew his next card. (Pot of Avarice) “I activate Pot of Avarice! By shuffling five monsters in my grave back into the deck (Amber Mammoth, Sapphire Pegasus, Topaz Tiger, Cobalt Eagle, and Emerald Turtle), I get to draw two cards! (Sapphire Pegasus and Crystal Blessing) I now summon Sapphire Pegasus in DEF mode! (1200 DEF) And thanks to his ability, I can bring one Crystal Beast to the back row so I’ll choose Topaz Tiger. Now I activate Crystal Blessing! I can bring the last two Crystal Beasts in my grave, which are Ruby Carbuncle and Amethyst Cat, and place them in my Spell/Trap Zone! Now my Field Spell is immune to your Spells and Abilities, all damage dealt to me is halved, and by send a Crystal Beast from the back row to the grave, I can negate the activate of a Spell or Trap and destroy it! Rainbow Dragon, attack!”
“I activate Negate Attack!” Kai said calmly.
Johan began beating his head with his fists and repeating “Why? Why? Why?”
Mars shook his head. “He’s finally cracked”
“More like upset” Tyranno shot back.
“I would be too” Christy put in. “Johan has Kai on the ropes right now”
Kai drew his next card. (Apprentice Magician) “I switch my two monsters to DEF mode, place two cards facedown (Dark Magic Attack and Dimension Distortion), and end my turn.
Johan drew his next card. (Crystal Raigeki) “I activate Crystal Raigeki! I discard my Topaz Tiger to destroy your Dark Magician of Chaos! Rainbow Dragon, destroy Magician of Black Chaos! Lustrous Rainbow Beam!”
“Hold on Anderson!” Kai called out. “When you destroy Dark Magician of Chaos, you remove it from play! This allows me to activate Dimension Distortion! Now I can take a monster that was removed from play and bring it back into play (Chaos is in DEF mode) and since he came into play, I can bring Pot of Greed back to my hand!”
Johan shrugged. “Rainbow Dragon, continue your attack”
Kai drew his next card. (Monster Reborn) “I activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards (Offerings to the Doomed and Spellbinding Circle). I now activate Monster Reborn! Come back Dark Magician in DEF mode! Now I activate Dark Magic Attack! Since I have a Dark Magician on the field, all your Spells and Traps are destroyed! And since you only have two crystallized Beasts, you can’t negate this Spell!”
“I activate the ability of Rainbow Dragon!” Johan announced. “I sacrifice the Crystal Beasts I have in play to increase my Dragon’s ATK by 3000! (10000 ATK)”
“10000 ATK?!?!?!” Zane cried. “Johan can beat Kai close to 3 times over!”
“No he can’t” Greg said, who was gripping the raining so hard that his knuckles were white. The suspense was killing him.
“Why not?” Chazz snapped.
“For one, it’s Kai’s turn” Greg replied coolly, his eyes never leaving the arena. “And secondly, I know Kai’s going to win this turn”
“Really?” Sophia asked.
Greg nodded. “Watch”
Meanwhile, Kai was smiling. “But that destroys your Field Spell and the rest of your cards. Now I activate Offerings to the Doomed!”
“Oh no!” Johan cried.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Chazz roared.
“WILL YOU BE QUIET?!?!” Greg shouted. “I’M WATCHING A DUEL HERE!”
Kai was smiling. “At the cost of my next draw phase, your Dragon bites the dust. Not that there’s going to be a next turn though. I switch my Dark Magician and Dark Magician of Chaos into ATK mode! Now attack! Dark Magic Attack and Chaos Blast!”
Kai – 3400 Johan – 0
The crowd roared as the dust settled, revealing Johan sitting on the floor laughing his head off.
“Man, that was the best duel I’ve had in a long time!” Johan cried. “Kai, you know your stuff!”
Kai smiled and helped his friend to his feet. “You almost had me there”
“I know I did” Johan grinned and copied Jaden’s winning pose. “You owe me a rematch”
Kai copied the Crystal Beast user. “Anytime pal”
“What an excellent finish!” Jaden cried, who still had the mike. “Next up its…Zane Truesdale and Jaden Yuki! Wait a second, I’m dueling Zane?! You better believe it!”
“Jaden’s dueling Zane?” Violet repeated.
Greg smiled. “Guys, grab some popcorn, because if you thought that this duel was awesome, the next one’s going to blow you away!”
