Top 10 Video Games
1. Star Wars Battlefront II (PC) The sequel to Star Wars Battlefront, the new version can either be first or third person (I can play well in either POV). You get awards based on your performance in the game and your weapons get increased as a result (Ex: Blaster Rifle--> AWARD Rifle). You can play on numerous different worlds, from Naboo to Corescaunt to Polis Massa to Mustafar, and, for the first time EVER, you can fight in space! On the downside, my favorite character (Clone Jet Trooper) was made weaker in this game (I can't even stand up to a blaster to the chest) and they have removed several maps that were on the prequel, such as Rhen Var (my favorite map), Bespin, and Yavin 4: Arena. 2. MLB 08: The Show (PSP) The smell of grass, the cheer of the crowd, the adrenaline pumping through your veins...MLB 08: The Show offers you an incredibly realistic baseball experience on the PSP (grass smells not included). Several different game modes gives you endless playing time. Play as your favorite team and try to win the World Series. Create your own player and start him on the road to stardom. A piece of advice: turn off the Meter pitching style. Classical is way easier and offers more control. Pitching is everything in this game. 3. Pokemon Pearl (Nintendo DS) The newest Pokemon game released, Pearl and its counterpart Diamond take us to the land of Sinnoh, a natural paradise. The game follows the basic rules of the games: take control, travel around, battle, catch, win. It has the second-toughest Elite Four in the series (FireRed/LeafGreen has the toughest) and more legendaries than any other game in the series. Also, you can migrate Pokemon from your Advance Games and put them in your Pearl, making sure you can make the greatest party possible...with the help of an Action Reply 4. Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 (Nintendo DS) Another game in the World Championship series, 2007 is possibly better than 2008. The basics are still there: you follow the Banned-Restricted List, you battle Duel Monsters, you unlock packs, you can solve puzzles and triumph over challenges...but the Wi-Fi makes everything better. You can duel with anyone across the world. There are certain loopholes in the Banned-Restricted Lists (E-Hero and D-Hero Fans will love to hear the news that you can run THREE Stratos instead of one). Also, by connecting to other games (Nightmare Troubadour and Spirit Caller), you can duel the characters from the TV series! Even better, how about the ability to make the best deck of all time: The Light and Darkness Dragon Deck! 5. Medal of Honor: Heroes (PSP) A great WWII first-person shooter developed by EA. Play in a variety of campaigns, from the Battle of the Bulge to Operation Market Garden, as an American soldier. Graphics are great, and there are a wide variety of weapons to choose from (my personal favorite is the MP40). The controls are a pain, and Sony should do something about it. All too often i find myself dying from getting shot in the back and not being able to to turn around fast enough. Skirmish mode allows you to play free-for-all matches on maps you have unlocked. The Belgian Castle is a royal pain... 6. Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo DS) Yes! Finally, what is arguably the best Pokemon game yet released is in my hands. There are way better graphics in this game than in D/P, and there are new Pokemon found in the wild. The three Legendary Birds appear, and we have our first 3-D map: Torn World! How would you like to walk upside-down? Vertically? Challenging puzzles, new Galactic villains, and best of all, Pokemon Formes! Rotom gets 5, Giratina and Shaymin each have one... one odd thing though: LV1 Regigigas? 7. Age of Empires III (PC) The third installment of the series is a winner. Way better graphics than the others. The game takes you to the New World and introduces the Native Americans. Another new addition is your Home City, which can send you shipments of supplies, which get better as you gain experience (via killings, building a certain amount of stuff, finding treasure...). Also, gunpowder plays a significant role in this game. However, it introduces the units-that-take-up-more-population-idea that was first seen (allegedly) in AoM. Civilizations: British, French, Germans, Russians, Ottomans, Spanish, and Portuguese. 8. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PSP) Oh man, this game rocks! This RPG puts you in the shoes of Vader's secret apprentice as you form the Rebellion and try to dispose of the Emperor. You can customize your character and lightsaber, and buy upgrades to increase your Force powers. Oh yeah, did i mention you have Force combos? By pressing the appropriate keys in the appropriate sequence, you can obliterate your opponent with your superior skills. Warning: Rancors are very deadly...and annoying. 9. NHL 06 (PC) Probably the best of the series created by EA. You don't have the up-to-date lineup that would have if you played 08 or 09, but there are added perks: the introduction of the Skill Stick and the fact that the computer is very challenging, although a bit stupid at times. Very often, you'll find yourself in the middle of a shootout with the computer, with scores such as 6-3, 8-5, or even 10-6! (I've scored 26 points in one game as the San Jose Sharks) 10. Madden 09 (Nintendo DS) The newest Madden game takes a while to get used to, but once you master the controls the game is incredibly easy. The kicking controls are easier as well. However, the defenses aren't realistic: I managed to run for about 400 yards against the Vikings with Lendale White and Chris Johnson of Tennessee...at the highest difficulty setting. Right now, I'm trying to rebuild the Detroit Lion's franchise. My starting QB: Brian Brohm. |
