Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens Episode 70: “Infinite Bonds”
“Alrighty then!” Jaden said cheerfully, clapping his hands together. “The opening rounds of the Duelist Academy Grand Championship is done! Now it’s on to the quarterfinals!” “How will we know who our opponents are?” asked Kai. He, Sophia, Violet, Zane, Joe, Hell Kaiser, Aster, Tyranno, Greg were standing on the dueling platform. The eliminated—Alexis, Johan, Mars, Chazz, and Rose—were on the observation deck. “Glad you asked!” Jaden replied excitedly. “See the screen behind us?” he asked, pointed to the mega-sized screen on the arena wall. “It will randomly choose two of your names. Those people will duel. Clear?” Everyone nodded. Greg’s eyes narrowed. So it all comes down to technology. This could seriously work in Hell Kaiser’s favor if he managed to hack into the system…which I bet he did. And I can’t stop him because we can’t just cancel the tournament on a whim! I guess I just have to let it play out and hope for the best. Jaden pressed a button and the names of the remaining contestants flashed on the screen and started to be eliminated one by one. Zane, Tyranno, Kai, Hell Kaiser…all of them were gone in a flash, leaving just Joe, Aster, Sophia, and Violet. Greg’s eyes widened. No…Hell Kaiser you dirty little son of a monkeywrench! He’s going to cut our power drastically! Another name disappeared: Joe’s. That left three. After a minute, one last name left the screen: Aster’s. Sophia and Violet’s names remained. I knew it, Greg thought, glaring at Hell Kaiser. Sophia and Violet are two of our strongest duelists, so the best way to gain an advantage is to pit them against each other to have only one standing. “Alright!” Sophia cheered. “Time to pay you back for that duel in Battle City!” Violet gave a small smile. “Yeah, sure” “Okay then!” Jaden said cheerfully. “Sophia, Violet: get your game on!” The group then walked off the platform, leaving the two duelists alone. Sophia grinned and activated her duel disk. “Ready Violet?” Violet activated her disk and slid her deck in. “Way ahead of you” Sophia slid her deck in as well. “Duel!” they both shouted.
Sophia – 8000 Violet – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Sophia had 3 Blue Eyes White Dragons, Call of the Haunted, and Monster of Reborn. Violet had Sanctuary in the Sky, The Forgiving Maiden, Marie the Fallen One, Polymerization, and Negate Attack. Violet went first. Violet drew her first card. (Transformation of the Martyr) “I’ll start things off with the Field Spell Sanctuary in the Sky!” Suddenly the dueling field was shrouded in clouds with a golden temple emerging behind Violet. “Now I don’t take any damage when one of my Fairies” “Geez, does Violet always start with that card?” Joe asked Greg just as he arrived on the observation deck. Greg just shrugged and smiled, a stark contrast to what he was feeling inside. “But I’m not done yet!” Violet called out. “I’ll activate Polymerization!” Here it comes, thought Sophia. “I’ll fuse Marie the Fallen One and The Forgiving Maiden together to summon my favorite monster: St. Joan! (2800 ATK)” After the zombie faire and the nun look-alike finished fusing together, a female knight stood in front of Violet. “That’ll end my turn” Sophia drew her card. (Pot of Greed) “I’ll activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two new cards! (Dragon’s Mirror and Kaibaman)” Sophia slowly grinned. “Perfect” “Uh oh…” muttered Greg. “I’ll summon Kaibaman! Then I’ll set one card facedown (Call of the Haunted). I’ll then sacrifice my Kaibaman to summon my Blue Eyes White Dragon! (3000 ATK) I then activate my facedown card Call of the Haunted! This lets me bring back my Kaibaman. I’ll then sacrifice it again to summon another Blue Eyes White Dragon! Now I’ll activate my Monster Reborn, and you know what that means: Kaibaman, come to the field! Now I’ll sacrifice it to summon my last Blue Eyes White Dragon!” And just like that, all three of her favorite dragons were on the field. This is gonna hurt…thought Violet. “Blue Eyes White Dragon, destroy her St. Joan with White Lightning Attack!” One dragon opened it maw and blue-white lightning shot out of it, smashing apart the holy knight in seconds. “Don’t forget that I didn’t lose any LP thanks to my Field Spell” Violet reminded Sophia. Sophia grinned. “But what’s gonna protect you from my other two dragons? Now, attack her directly! White Lightning Attack!” The other two dragons copied the leader, except their bolts only hit Violet and knocked her to her knees.
Sophia – 8000 Violet – 2000
“But I’m not done yet Violet!” Sophia called out. “I activate my Dragon’s Mirror! I can remove my three dragons from play to summon a new creature: MY BLUE EYES ULTIMATE DRAGON! (4500 ATK)” In a blaze of golden light, Sophia’s three monsters were gone and its hydra version stood in its place. “Now I end my turn” “This is bad” Kai remarked. “Violet’s already down to her last 2000 LP and Sophia has full life and one of her best monsters out in just one turn! She’s a goner!” Greg’s eyes narrowed as he looked at the dueling field. “If there’s one thing I know about Violet, is that you should never, ever, count her out of a duel, especially when it’s just starting.” Violet rose shakily to her feet. Okay, not the best start. I need a good draw NOW or I’m toast! She closed her eyes and drew her card. She slowly opened her eyes and slowly smiled. Perfect… “I’ll activate my Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two more cards. (Monster Reborn and Megamorph) I now activate Monster Reborn to bring back St. Joan!” Once more the golden-armored warrior appeared on the battlefield. “But she won’t be here long, because I activate Transformation of the Martyr! By sacrificing my St. Joan, I can summon my Guardian Angel Joan from my deck! (2800 ATK)” Suddenly, St. Joan began to change. Wings sprouted from her back. Her sword shattered into a million pieces. Then, in a flash of light, her armor shattered, revealing white robes. “Nice entrance” Sophia applauded sarcastically. “But she’s nowhere near strong enough to take out my dragon!” Violet smiled. “Not yet, but she will be once I equip her with Megamorph!” “Oh no!” Sophia cried. “Oh yes!” Violet replied. “Megamorph, since my life points are lower than yours, will double my monster’s ATK points! (5600 ATK) Now Guardian Angel Joan, attack her Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon with Blessed Beam!” Joan flew into the air, the power of Megamorph casting a bluish glow around her. She cupped her hands together and gathered golden light between them. Then she released them in one big blast that hit Ultimate Dragon’s center head and made the whole dragon explode.
Sophia – 6900 Violet – 2000
Violet smile grew wider. “By the way, my Guardian Angel Joan has ability: whenever it destroys a monster, my life points get a boost equal to that monster’s ATK points!” Sophia just groaned.
Sophia – 6900 Violet – 6500
Greg flashed a grin at Kai. “That’s my girl” Kai just shook his head in amazement. “I’ll now set one card facedown (Negate Attack) and end my turn” Violet finished. Sophia drew her next card. (Card of Sanctity) “I’ll activate my Card of Sanctity! This card allows us to draw cards until we have cards until we have 6 in our hand. (Sophia: Mystical Space Typhoon, Lord’s Ascension, Spear of Revival, Re-Fusion, Megamorph, and Lord of D. Violet: Angels’ Ascension, Emergency Provisions, Graceful Charity, Emergency Healing x2, and Warrior of Zera) I now activate my Re-Fusion! By paying 800 LP, I can bring back my Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon!” And once more, Sophia’s three-headed white dragon appeared on the field.
Sophia – 6100 Violet – 6500
“Aw man!” Violet exclaimed. “And now since I have more LP than you, Joan’s base ATK is halved! (1400 ATK)” Sure enough, the glow surrounding her angel went from blue to red. “But there’s more Violet, because I activate my own Megamorph!” Sophia called out while a blue glow surrounded her dragon, raising her dragon’s ATK to 9000! “And now I’ll activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your Sanctuary, leaving your LP wide open!” “Holy smoke!!” Joe cried out. “Sophia can win the duel in one shot now!” “It can’t be over!” Greg replied. “Violet still has something up her sleeve! I know it!” “BLUE EYES ULTIMATE DRAGON, ATTACK HER GUARDIAN ANGEL JOAN! END THIS DUEL WITH NEUTRON BLAST!” The large dragon put its three heads together and unleashed a unleashed a blaze of bluish light at the angel… “Hold on Sophia!” Violet called out. “By discarding two cards from my hand (Warrior of Zera and Emergency Provisions), I can activate my two Emergency Healings from my hand! Usually I’d gain just 700 LP per monster I have on the field, but since I activate two, I’ll have a 1400 LP boost!”
Sophia – 6100 Violet – 7900
“I guess I’ll survive after all huh, Sophia?” Violet taunted as her angel was incinerated by Sophia’s attack.
Sophia – 6100 Violet – 300
“And don’t forget your Megamorph Sophia, because now your dragon’s ATK is halved!” And what Violet said was true, for Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon’s ATK was lowered to 2450! Sophia gritted her teeth. “You may have survived my attack, but I’ll still have the upper hand! I summon my Lord of D to the field! But now I’ll activate my Lord’s Ascension! By sacrificing my Lord of D, I can summon one of the newest monsters in my deck: Divine Dragon Lord! (2400 ATK)And my new lord has a special ability: whenever he’s Special Summoned by Lord’s Ascension, I can summon one of the most powerful dragons ever: RISE GRAND EMPEROR DRAGON—ENVOY OF FURY! (2500 ATK)” A spinning ball of dark red light appeared on Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon’s left side. It grew bigger and bigger and bigger until it exploded. When the dust settled, a gold dragon with dark red body armor was on the field. “But I’m not done yet Violet! I activate my Spear of Revival! Now whenever a Dragon goes to my grave, I can revive one of my old dragons. And my Envoy, well he has a cool ability too: by sacrificing one Dragon on my side of the field, I can increase his ATK by 500…permanently.” Violet paled. “But that means…” “MY MONSTER HAS INFINITE ATTACK! MY MONSTERS, SHOW HER HOW IT’S DONE!” First, Sophia’s Ultimate Dragon disappeared in a blaze of red light. Then the Spear of Revival glowed gold and her Blue Eyes White Dragon appeared. It too disappeared and it appeared again thanks to the spear. Grand Emperor Dragon sent it away and then it was revived again. Soon, an imagine of Blue Eyes White Dragon was flickering in between Divine Dragon Lord and Grand Emperor Dragon and the Spear and the solid dragon were shrouded in gold light. “So make your last move Violet!” Sophia called out. Violet looked at her deck and back at her friend. “Alright, time for the real show to begin!” she announced as she drew her final card. “I’ll start off with Graceful Charity! I draw three cards (Premature Burial, Agent of Force—Mars, and Mudora) and discard two (Mars and Mudora). Now I activate Call of the Haunted to bring back Guardian Angel Joan! But I now sacrifice her to activate Angel’s Ascension! Now since I sacrificed Guardian Angel Joan, I can summon the card I just drew: ARCHANGEL JOAN—ENVOY OF VENGEANCE! (2500 ATK)” Guardian Angel Joan was suddenly bathed in gold light. Gold armor slowly started creeping over her robes. A gold sword appeared in her right hand and a gold shield in her left. One blaze of light later, a woman in gold armor with wings, shield, and sword was on Violet’s side of the field. “Now I activate her ability: I must remove all the monsters in my deck, hand, and graveyard from the game and that’s 25! Now my Angel gains 1000 ATK for every monster that’s removed from the game and I count 29!” “HOLY ______!!!!” Joe swore. “ARCHANGEL JOAN NOW GAINS 29000 ATK!!! (31500 ATK)” He began to hyperventilate, so Greg, Chazz, and Kai all smacked him over the head. “Calm down kid” Chazz said. “Yeah we’re watching a duel here!” Johan snapped “So take your foul mouth…” Kai began. “And take it outside…” Tyranno continued. “Or I’ll have her duel you…” Greg said menacingly. “And I won’t go out with you” Rose finished. “Wait, WHAT?!” Greg exclaimed. “Greg, SHUT UP!!” shouted Johan as he smacked him over the head. “Oh, you’re asking for trouble Anderson…” snarled Greg. “Bring it on Hero Kid” Johan shot back, ignoring the stares he was getting from the whole arena, including the two fighters below. Violet shook herself. “Okay…” she said. “Back to business…ARCHANGEL JOAN, ATTACK HER GRAND EMPEROR DRAGON WITH VENGEANCE BLADE!” That got the two boys’ attention. “SAY WHAT?!” Greg and Johan yelled. Sophia smiled. “GRAND EMPEROR DRAGON, COUNTERATTACK! BLAZE OF FURY!” Grand Emperor Dragon unleashed a torrent of red fire just as Archangel Joan threw her sword at the beast’s head. She caught the fire on the shield and she began to glow with gold light. Once the sword embedded itself between the dragon’s eyes, a colossal explosion ripped the field apart, knocking everyone onto their backs and Sophia and Violet into walls behind them, leaving an imprint of their bodies in the wall. Nothing was left on the field.
Sophia – 6100 Violet – 0
The two duelists climbed shakily to their feet. “Archangel Joan’s effect” Violet panted. “Takes out…every monster on the field…when it’s destroyed…” Greg’s eyes widened with acknowledgment as he sat up. That’s why she attacked! She wanted to take out Sophia’s dragon even though she knew she’d lose! Sophia was panting too but she was smiling. “You…fight hard…Vi…” Violet smiled. “Thanks” The two duelists ran up to the arena to the dueling platform and embraced each other when they met halfway. “At least I now know that you’re the right person to be…” Sophia trailed off. “SAY ONE MORE WORD AND YOU’LL REGRET IT!” Greg hollered down at Sophia. Violet turned to face her boyfriend. “Are you keeping something from me?” she called up. “Yeah I am!” Greg replied. “This!” and he blew a kiss to her, which she caught and responded too. Sophia rolled her eyes. “Well folks!” Jaden called out cheerfully as the pair left the platform. “We have to check the equipment before the next duel so sit tight!” One question burned in everyone’s mind: Who were dueling next?
