Episode 76: “A Duel in Hell”
Gregory Henry sat in Duelist Academy’s hospital, staring at the body of his cousin Sophia. Just three days ago Sophia had fallen to Hell Kaiser in a Hell Duel. Sophia had fallen into a Hell Coma and had not awoken.
Greg sighed. What am I going to do?
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking up, he discovered the Violet was standing above him. “Hi”
Violet sat next to him. “Are you okay? You’ve been here for hours, and the duel’s about to start.”
Greg shrugged. “I’m not interested. Besides, I’ve got to get ready. Aster doesn’t stand a chance.”
Violet stared at him. “Try to have some hope, Greg! Aster might do it! He’s beaten him before!”
Greg turned to her, and Violet was shocked to see that his eyes had lost all the light and laughter in them. “Wrong. He’s beaten Zane before. Hell Kaiser is completely different. He’s eviler…darker…”
Violet shrugged. “So? Hell Kaiser and Zane are virtually the same, right? They probably—”
“THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!!!” Greg roared, jumping to his feet and making the chair fall backward. “THEY ARE NOTHING ALIKE!! ZANE WOULDN’T DO THIS!!!” He gestured to the prone forms of Christy, Zane, and Sophia lying on the hospital beds. “ZANE WOULDN’T TURN EVIL!!!”
“He did once” Violet said in a calm voice. “He was Hell Kaiser before—“
“FOR CRYING OUT LOUD VIOLET, STOP TRYING TO USE LOGIC ON ME!!” Greg hollered. “NO AMOUNT OF LOGIC CAN BRING BACK THE ONES I CARE ABOUT!! I NEED TO BEAT HELL KAISER!!!”
“You don’t have to” Violet snapped back, finally starting to get mad. “Aster could—”
“STOP TRYING TO BRING THE SUBJECT BACK TO ASTER!! I’VE ALREADY SAID THAT HE DOESN’T STAND A CHANCE!!”
“MAYBE YOU SHOULD ACTUALLY BELIEVE IN HIM!!! MAYBE—”
“Am I interrupting anything?” asked a new voice.
Greg and Violet spun to the source and shouted “SHUT UP!!!”
Aster rubbed the back of his head. “Okay, okay, I’ll stop…”
Violet turned back to Greg. “You’re wallowing in your self-pity, Greg. You’re shutting everyone out. Please, don’t shut me out” Violet reached tentatively out towards Greg’s face and cupped his cheek. “I want to help you. Please, let me help you!”
Greg gently pushed her hand away. “I’m sorry Vi, but no one, not even you, can help me now. The only thing that will is beating Hell Kaiser.”
Violet glared at Greg. “You care more about getting revenge on Hell Kaiser than you do about me.” It wasn’t a question.
Greg stared evenly back. “Yes. Right now I do.”
Violet stepped back, as if Greg had slapped her. Her face changed from sadness, to hurt, to shock, and to anger in the blink of an eye. She opened her mouth, closed it again, and ran from the room.
Greg stared after her. What have I done?

A couple hours later, everyone was in Duelist Academy’s main arena. Aster and Hell Kaiser were on the dueling platform putting on the electric bands. Up in the observation box, Team Evolution looked at the space between Violet and Greg and wondered what the heck was happening.
“Did they have a fight?” Johan asked Kai quietly. All he got was a shrug.
Down below, the two duelists were shuffling their decks. “Finally…” breathed Hell Kaiser, “I shall have my revenge…”
Aster raised an eyebrow as he slid his deck into his duel disk. “Why do you want revenge?”
Hell Kaiser glared back as he slid his deck into his disk as well. “You handed me my first defeat.”
Aster shook his head. “I was under the impression that I defeated Zane Truesdale”
Hell Kaiser activated his duel disk. “I was always there, even then”
Aster sighed and activated his duel disk as well. “For all of those who are lost…Get Your Game On!”
Aster – 8000 Hell Kaiser – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Aster got Destiny Hero Diamond Dude, Clock Tower Prison, Destiny Hero Doom Lord, Draining Shield, and Polymerization. Hell Kaiser got Cyber Dragon, Infernal Dragon, Cybernetic Hidden Technology, Overload Fusion, and Dimension Fusion. Hell Kaiser went first.
Hell Kaiser drew his opening card. (Exploder Dragon) “I’ll start things off by summoning Infernal Dragon in ATK mode! (2000 ATK)” In a flash, the dark armored dragon appeared in front of its master. “Next, I’ll set one card face down (Cybernetic Hidden Technology) and end my turn”
Aster drew his next card. (Quick Summon) “I summon Destiny Hero Diamond Dude in ATK mode! (1400 ATK)” In a flash of light, the green dressed hero with diamonds coming out of his body floated down in front of Aster. “Now I activate his ability! I can discard the top card of my deck and if it’s a Normal Spell Card, like my Pot of Greed, I can activate it next turn! Now, I summon Destiny Hero Doom Lord in ATK mode! (600 ATK)” In another flash, Aster’s first ever Destiny Hero appeared. It had a black body, two sets of claws, and a red robe that almost covered its white face. “Now I’ll activate his ability! Once per turn I can remove one monster on your side of the field from the game, so your Infernal Dragon goes bye-bye for a couple of turns! Now my monsters, direct attack!”
The two Heroes flew at Hell Kaiser. Diamond Hero delivered a roundhouse kick and Doom lord followed it up with a slash across the chest. Hell Kaiser stood tall through it all, even when red lightning attacked his body.
Aster – 8000 Hell Kaiser – 6000
“Now I’ll set one card facedown (Draining Shield) and call it a turn” Aster finished.
Hell Kaiser drew his next card calmly. (Pot of Greed) “I’ll activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards. (Cyber Dragon and Power Bond) Now I activate Power Bond! By sending my two Cyber Dragons to the graveyard, I can fuse them together to create Cyber Twin Dragon! (2800 ATK)” After the two silver mechanical dragons disappeared into the swirling vortex behind Hell Kaiser, his two-headed version of Cyber Dragon appeared in a blaze of blue lightning. “And thanks to Power Bond, its ATK is doubled (2800 à 5600 ATK) and it can attack twice thanks to its ability!”
“It’s already over?!” Johan exclaimed.
Greg just turned away. “Told her so”
“Cyber Twin Dragon, destroy his monsters with Double Strident Blast!” Hell Kaiser commanded.
The two heads opened their mouths and unleashed two bursts of blue lightning at the two heroes, blasting them apart in seconds and triggering Aster’s bands. He started screaming, but suddenly he stopped. When the smoke cleared, Aster was still standing there, along with his Diamond Dude, with a grin on his face.
“Thought you beat me there didn’t you?” Aster smirked. “Well, I activated my Draining Shield. It stopped your attack on my Diamond Dude and gave me a 5600 LP boost”
Aster – 8600 Hell Kaiser – 6000
Aster’s smile grew wider. “And if I’m right, now your Dragon is destroyed thanks to Power Bond and your take 2800 damage”
Cyber Twin Dragon exploded and as the smoke washed over Hell Kaiser, the bands activated. This time, the pain was enough to drop him to one knee.
Aster – 8600 Hell Kaiser – 3200
Hell Kaiser struggled to his feet. “Just…go” he growled.
“With pleasure” Aster replied, drawing his next card. (Graceful Charity) “Now my Pot of Greed activates and I draw two cards. (Eternal Dread and Destiny Hero Dread Servant) Now I activate Clock Tower Prison!” In a moment, the two duelists were in a courtyard and the Big Ben look-alike stood tall behind Aster. “Now I sacrifice Diamond Dude to summon Destiny Hero Dread Servant! (1000 ATK)” Aster’s new hero had darkish chrome armor, purple breast plate a staff with a spiked tip, a golden shield attached to the arm, a tattered black cape, and a helmet. “Thanks to his ability, I can add a counter to my Clock Tower Prison! Now my monster, direct attack!”
Dread Servant unleashed a dark energy ball from its staff that hit Hell Kaiser again and triggered the bands, sending him to his knees panting.
Aster – 8600 Hell Kaiser – 2200
“Ha!” Violet cried, slamming a fist into her hand. “Aster’s gonna beat that slimeball!”
Greg reluctantly turned back to the arena and gave a start as he saw the life total.
Hell Kaiser rose shakily to his feet and snarled. “My move. DRAW!” The roared the last word as he viciously drew the top card of his deck. (Cyber Dragon) “Since you have a monster and I don’t, I’ll special summon my Cyber Dragon! (2100 ATK) Next, I’ll summon Exploder Dragon! (1000 ATK)” In a flash, the spike-ball wielding monster appeared. “Now I activate OVERLOAD FUSION!!” As hell Kaiser held the card aloft, it seemed to glow with power. “I remove my three Cyber Dragons and my Cyber Twin Dragon from the game to summon CHIMERATECH OVERDRAGON! (???? ATK)” In a blaze of black/red lightning, from the vortex emerged the multi-headed beast that beat Zane.
Hell Kaiser looked coldly at Aster. “Chimeratech Overdragon’s effect now activates. It’s ATK is equal to the number of monsters used to summon it times 800. (3200 ATK) Now my monster, attack Destiny Hero Dread Servant! INFINITE STRIDENT BLAZE!!”
Each of the heads opened their mouths and unleashed their dreaded energy…
“I activate my facedown card!” Aster called out. “Go Eternal Dread! My Clock Tower gets two more counters! And since it gained a counter at the beginning of your turn, it now has four!”
Just as the monster was destroyed, the clock’s hands reached midnight.
Aster grinned. “Now my Dread Servant’s ability activates! When he’s destroyed, I can destroy Clock Tower Prison! And since it had four counters, I can summon Destiny Hero Dreadmaster! (???? ATK)”
As the courtyard and clock crumpled, the muscle-man burst through the falling plaster and landed in front of Aster.
“When Dreadmaster comes into play, I can summon as many Destiny Heroes as I can from my graveyard, so rise Dread Servant, Doom Lord, and Diamond Dude!” In three bursts of light, the three heroes landed in front of their owner. “Also, Dreadmaster’s ATK is equal to the combined ATK of my other Destiny Heroes! (1000 + 1400 + 600 = 3000 ATK) And to cap it off, I won’t take damage in battle this turn!”
Hell Kaiser smirked. “Oh well. Exploder Dragon, destroy Destiny Hero Dreadmaster!”
Aster paled. Blast it! I forgot Exploder Dragon’s ability! This way, he can still eliminate my biggest threat!
The mini dragon flew above Dreadmaster and dropped its bomb, which hit Dreadmaster, causing it and Exploder Dragon to explode.
As the smoke swirled around Hell Kaiser, he said “Your turn”
Aster drew his next card. (D Formation) “I switch my monsters to DEF mode and end my turn”
Hell Kaiser drew his next card. (Limiter Removal) “This duel’s over!”
Aster raised an eyebrow. “And how, pray tell, is that?”
“I ACTIVATE DIMENSION FUSION!” Hell Kaiser roared, slamming the card on the duel disk. Suddenly, the space behind Hell Kaiser became a dark vortex crackling with electricity.
“I PAY 2000 LIFE POINTS TO SUMMON MY THREE CYBER DRAGONS!” Hell Kaiser announced. In a flash, the three dragons appeared on the field and the vortex vanished.
Aster – 8600 Hell Kaiser – 200
“CHIMERATECH OVERDRAGON, DESTROY HIS MONSTERS!!” Hell Kaiser hollered. “INFINITE STRIDENT BLAZE!!”
The four head opened their mouths and unleashed four bolts of power, blasting apart Aster’s last line of defense.
“NOW I ACTIVATE LIMITER REMOVAL!!” Hell Kaiser roared. “THIS DOUBLES MY CYBER DRAGON’S ATK POWER!! (2100 à 4200 ATK)”
Greg bowed and shook his head.
“NOW MY MONSTERS, ATTACK HIM DIRECTLY!! COMBO STRIDENT BLAST!!!” Hell Kaiser roared to the sky, pointing to his opponent.
The three metallic dragons put their heads together, opened their mouths, and created one big ball of electric blue energy. When it reached the size of a tire, they unleashed it, nailing Aster in the stomach, throwing him off the arena, and triggering the bands. Aster Phoenix was unconscious before he hit the wall, red lightning still attacking his body.
Aster – 0 Hell Kaiser – 200
Hell Kaiser smirked, watching his foe suffer. After a while, he turned and look straight into Greg’s eyes. The boy nodded, his eyes glowing. Then the two walked out of the arena at the same time.
The final stage is set, Hell Kaiser thought.
Soon, it will all be over, Greg sighed mentally as he lay down on his bed in the guest room of Duelist Academy.
Suddenly, he leapt to his feet, feeling a sharp pain pierce his side. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the culprit and stared.
It was a ring box.
