Episode 66: “Laws of Nature”
Deep within the shadows of Duelist Academy, a male hissed in anger.
“So…it appears that Team Evolution still stands strong. Some of their most powerful members have made it to the second round.
“But every powerful enemy has a weakness. And for Team Evolution, it’s their leader. Weaken the leader, the others will soon crumble.
“And then nobody will be able prevent my rise to power”

“Welcome everyone!” Jaden Yuki called out to the numerous students in the stands in Duelist Academy’s Critias Purple Arena. “After yesterday’s matches, we now have three people moving on to the second round. Today we’re going to finish the first round. Starting off, we have Joe and Rose!”
The two duelists in question were already standing on the dueling platform, shuffling their decks.
Up in a special booth, Team Evolution looked down upon their two members.
“Has anyone seen Rose duel?” Chazz asked.
“No” Greg replied. “I don’t even know what her deck is”
“What about Joe?” Johan asked.
“He’s got a Neo-Spacian Deck” Sophia grinned. “Ol’ Jaden not going to be happy about that!”
Down below, the two duelists had finished shuffling their decks. “Ready Rose?” Joe asked as he slid his deck into his duel disk.
Rose activated her disk and slammed her deck in. “Yeah. You’re going to be real surprised at my deck!”
Joe activated his disk and called out. “Let’s Duel!”
Joe – 8000 Rose – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Joe had Neo Spacian Aqua Dolphin, Elemental Hero Neos, Neo Space, and Fake Hero. Rose had Treeborn Frog, T.A.D.P.O.L.E, Des Croaking, Graceful Charity, and Des Frog. Rose went first.
Rose drew her opening card. (Egg Laying) “I summon T.A.D.P.O.L.E in DEF mode! (0 DEF) That’ll do for this turn.”
Up in the booth, Chazz frowned. “I’m feeling an incredible sense of déjà vu right now”
Greg turned to look at him. “Why’s that?”
“When the Academy was attacked by the Society of Light, Jaden had to duel a 'princess' with a frog deck and that was the same opening move she did.”
Greg turned back to the playing field. “Let’s hope for some variety then”
Joe drew his card. (Negate Attack) “I activate Neo Space! This will increase the attack of my Neo monsters by 500 points. Now I summon Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin and will follow it up with Fake Hero to bring out Elemental Hero Neos! Now its time for Contact Fusion! By sending my two monsters back to my deck so I can summon Elemental Hero Aqua Neos! (2500 ATK) And thanks to Neo Space, his ATK increases. (3000 ATK) Now my monster attack, Sonar Wave!”
Rose drew her next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity! This lets me draw three cards (Quick Summon, T.A.D.P.O.L.E, and T.A.D.P.O.L.E) and discard two. (T.A.D.P.O.L.E x2) “I now summon Treeborn Frog and then activate Quick Summon so I can sacrifice my monster to summon Des Frog! (1900 ATK) And thanks to its ability, I can summon another Frog for every T.A.D.P.O.L.E in my grave so that’s my other two Frogs! Now I activate Des Croaking! Since I have three Des Frogs on the field, all your monsters are destroyed! Now my Frogs attack him directly!”
Joe – 2300 Rose – 8000
“Another move copied from the princess” Chazz muttered. “And if I’m right, the next move will be copied from her as well”
“Let’s hope not” Greg replied “Then this duel would get boring!”
Joe drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This let’s me draw two cards. (Necroshade and Graceful Charity) I now activate Graceful Charity! This lets me draw three cards (Neos, Grand Mole, and Contact Out) and discard two (Necroshade and Negate Attack). And thanks to my Necroshade, I can summon Elemental Hero Neos without tribute! (2500 ATK à 3000 ATK) Neos, attack!”
Joe – 2300 Rose – 6900
Rose drew her next card. (Monster Reborn) “I activate my Monster Reborn to bring back my Des Frog in DEF mode and then I’ll switch my other monsters to DEF mode and end my turn”
Joe drew his next card. (Negate Attack) “I summon Neo-Spacian Grand Mole! Now it’s time for Contact Fusion! By sending my two monsters to my deck I can summon Elemental Hero Grand Mole! (2500 à 3000 ATK) I now activate his ability to send one of you Frogs back to your hand! Now Grand Mole, destroy one of her Des Frog with Grand Drill! Now I activate Contact Out! By sending my monster back to the Fusion Deck I can summon both Elemental Hero Neos and my Neo-Spacian Grand Mole. Grand Mole, attack her last Frog! And thanks to its ability, both the Frog and my Mole are sent back to our hands and I take no damage. But now you’re wide open so Neos, direct attack! Force of Neos!”
Joe – 2300 Rose – 3900
“Now I’ll just set this card facedown and end my turn” Joe finished
Rose drew her next card. (Protective Plant) “I summon my Treeborn Frog in DEF mode! I then set two cards facedown (Egg Laying and Protective Plant) and end my turn”
“Rose is leading Joe on” Greg commented.
“Why?” asked Johan.
“Treeborn Frog’s special ability allows it to be revived every turn.” Chazz responded.
“It’s the ultimate wall…” Greg began.
“Or the ultimate sacrificial fodder” Chazz finished.
Joe drew his next card. (Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab) “I summon Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab in ATK mode! (500 ATK) And thanks to its ability, it gains 400 ATK for every Spell and Trap on your side of the field. (1300 ATK) Flare Scarab, attack Treeborn Frog!”
“Hold on!” Rose called out. “I activate my Egg Laying Trap Card! This card allows me to sacrifice a weaker Frog on my side of the field to summon a Des Frog from my graveyard in DEF mode! And I hope you haven’t forgotten its special ability, meaning I can summon my other Des Frogs in DEF mode, meaning your Scarab loses ATK points! (900 ATK)”
“But your Frog has no DEF points!” Joe protested.
Rose smiled. “I now activate Protective Plant. For the remainder of the turn, my Frogs are hiding in a large plant and your guys can’t attack them!” (Scarab: 500 ATK)
Rose drew her next card. (Polymerization) “I activate Polymerization! I fuse my three Frogs together to form D.3.S Frog! (2500 ATK) And since I have a Treeborn Frog in the graveyard, my monster gains 500 ATK points! (3000 ATK) D.3.S Frog, destroy Flare Scarab!”
“Joe’s gonna lose!” Johan cried.
“Good riddance” Tyranno snorted.
Greg was still watching the duel. “Joe’s got a Negate Attack on the field”
“No he doesn’t” Tyranno shot back.
“I activate Negate Attack!” Joe called out, revealing his facedown.
Greg turned to Tyranno, who was standing there with is mouth hanging open. “I suggest you close that mouth. A bird might make a nest in there”
Joe drew his next card. (Contact Out) Not that I need it, Joe thought. “I summon Neo-Spacian Grand Mole! But he won’t be here for long, because its now time for my last Contact Fusion!”
“Oh boy” Greg muttered.
“Rose is in for it now” Sophia agreed.
“I send my three monsters back to the deck so I can summon the last monster of this duel: ELEMENTAL HERO MAGMA NEOS! (3000 ATK) And don’t forget about my Field Spell, so my Magma Neos gains 500 more points! (3500 ATK) And thanks to my Neos’ ability, he gains 400 points! So that’s my monster and your monster…huh, only two? I though there was more than that…(4300 ATK) Magma Neos, destroy D.3.S Frog!”
Joe – 2300 Rose – 2600
Joe looked at his hand again. I guess I DO need you after all. “Now its time to correct my mistake! Activate Contact Out! This splits my Neos into its three separate parts: Elemental Hero Neos, Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, and Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab! Now my monsters, attack her directly!”
Joe – 2300 Rose – 0
Joe strode over to Rose, who was still standing tall and wearing a huge smile on her face, and embraced her. “Good duel”
“What’s Joe doing?” Chazz demanded.
Greg groaned and slapped his face. “What he does best: flirting”
