Episode 65: “A Score to Settle”
“What an excellent finish!” Jaden cried, who still had the mike. “Next up its…Zane Truesdale and Jaden Yuki! Wait a second, I’m dueling Zane?! You better believe it!”
“Jaden’s dueling Zane?” Violet repeated.
Greg smiled. “Guys, grab some popcorn, because if you thought that this duel was awesome, the next one’s going to blow you away!”
Zane had small smile on his face as he made his way down to the arena, where Jaden was already shuffling his deck, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning. The older Truesdale was remember the last three times the two of them had dueled. The first time Jaden had managed one direct attack, but Zane ended up bringing out Cyber End Dragon and blasted away his Mudballman and won the duel. The second time was the graduation duel, which ended in a draw after Jaden stopped using his head and used his gut. The third time was right after Zane, Aster, Syrus, and Axel had saved Jaden from his dark side. Jaden refused to use Polymerization and Zane won the duel in one turn.
But now it will be different. Zane had a feeling that Jaden would win today. He didn’t know why, but he just had a feeling…
He had arrived at the platform. Jaden had activated his disk and had placed his deck in it.
“Ready Zane?” Jaden called out as the other duelist shuffled his deck.
“More than ready” Zane replied as he placed his deck in his disk and activated it.
“Now we can finally find out which one of us is the better duelist!” Jaden exclaimed. “Which is yours truly!”
Zane smirked. “You have to survive this duel first Jaden”
“Alright Zane, Get Your Game On!”
Zane – 8000 Jaden – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Jaden had Avian, Polymerization, Skyscraper, Neos, and Contact Out. Zane had Cyber Dragon times 3, Polymerization, and Pot of Greed. Jaden went first.
“Do you want to go first Jaden?” Zane asked, already knowing the answer.
“Sure do!” Jaden replied cheerfully and he drew his card (Necroshade). This is a depressing hand, Jaden thought. I hope Zane’s hand is bad as well. Of course, knowing him it’s a pretty sweet hand… “I summon Elemental Hero Avian in DEF mode! (1000 DEF) I end my turn”
“That’s all?” Zane asked as he drew his next card (Cyber Fusion Support). “I guess I’ll have to supply the entertainment. Go Polymerization!”
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Jaden cried out. “Already?”
Zane smiled. “I fuse together my three Cyber Dragons to form Cyber End Dragon! (4000 ATK) Attack his Avian with Super Strident Blast! And I hope you haven’t forgotten my Dragon’s ability Jaden, for he deals damage through DEF!”
Zane – 8000 Jaden – 5000
Jaden drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) Sweetness! “I activate Graceful Charity! This lets me draw three cards (Neos Force, Neo Space, and Sparkman) and discard two. (Necroshade and Polymerization) And since my Elemental Hero Necroshade is in the graveyard, I summon my Elemental Her Neos without tribute! (2500 ATK) I now activate Neos Force, which increases its ATK by 800! (3300 ATK)”
“It still isn’t enough to take out my dragon” Zane commented.
“Hold on, I’m not done yet. I activate Skyscraper! This gives my Heroes a 1000 point boost when battling a monster stronger than it (4300 ATK). Neos, destroy Cyber End Dragon! Force of Neos!”
Zane – 7700 Jaden – 5000
“Neos Force also has a special ability: whenever the equipped monster destroys another monster, you take damage equal to that monster’s ATK points!”
Zane – 3700 Jaden – 5000
“Now Neos Force is shuffled back into the deck and I end my turn. (Neos: 2500 ATK)
Zane drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Pot of Greed. I assume you know how it works. (Future Fusion and Different Dimension Capsule) I now activate graceful Charity to draw three cards (Cyber Giraffe, Pot of Avarice, and Proto-Cyber Dragon) and discard two. (Cyber Giraffe and Proto-Cyber Dragon) I now activate Pot of Avarice! I shuffle my Proto-Cyber Dragon, my three Cyber Dragon, and my Cyber End Dragon back into my deck(s) and draw two cards. (Time Stream and Cyber Phoenix) I now activate Different Dimension Capsule. This card allows me to take one card from my deck (Power Bond) and remove it from the game. After 2 turns it will come back to my hand. I activate Future Fusion! I send my three Cyber Dragons from the deck to the grave so I can normally summon Cyber End Dragon in two turns. But I activate Time Stream which allows me to skip the turn costs for all my cards this turn, meaning I can get the card I got from the Capsule and summon my Dragon, so rise Cyber End Dragon! (4000 ATK) Destroy Elemental Hero Neos with Super Strident Blast!”
Zane – 3700 Jaden – 3500
Jaden drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed so I can draw two cards. (Monster Reborn and Grand Mole) I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Elemental Hero Neos! (2500 ATK) I now summon Neo-Spacian Grand Mole! (900 ATK) I’ll follow that up with Neo Space! This Field Spell gives my Neos and his Fusions and extra 500 points! (3000 ATK) Grand Mole, attack Cyber End Dragon!”
“But you’ll lose!” Zane protested.
Jaden grinned. “Normally yes, but Grand Mole’s ability allows it to negate all damage dealt to me and send it and your dragon back to our hands, leaving you wide open! Neos, attack directly!”
Zane – 700 Jaden – 3500
Zane drew his next card. (Recycling Plant) “I activate Recycling Plant! By discarding my hand, I can take 3 cards in my grave, shuffle them into my deck, and then draw three cards. (Monster Reborn, Cyber Dragon, and Reckless Greed) “I activate Reckless Greed! This lets me draw two cards at the cost of my next draw phase (Cyber Dragon and Polymerization). Now I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Proto-Cyber Dragon, which counts as a Cyber Dragon while on the field.”
“Zane never sacrifices card drawing unless he’s planning on winning that turn” Alexis commented. "What does he got planned?”
Greg’s eyes were glued to the arena. “Probably something to do with…”
“Power Bond!” Zane cried, holding the card up in the air.
Jaden’s jaw dropped open.
“I fuse Proto-Cyber Dragon and my two Cyber Dragons together to form Cyber End Dragon!” Zane punched the air and his ultimate triple threat rose behind him (4000 ATK).
“But don’t forget Power Bond Jaden, which doubles Cyber End Dragon’s ATK! (8000 ATK)”
“It’s over!” Greg cried out.
“CYBER END DRAGON, DESTROY ELEMENTAL HERO NEOS WITH SUPER STRIDENT BLAST!”
Zane – 700 Jaden – 0
The whole arena was dead quiet. Nobody breathed. Nobody spoke. All eyes were fixed on the prone form of Jaden Yuki, who was lying on his back on the ground.
Zane walked towards his fallen foe and put out a hand. “You had me scared for a moment Jaden”
Jaden broke into a grin and accepted the hand and allowed himself to be helped to his feet by Zane. “You gave me a shock a minute ago Zane. I didn’t know you had TWO Cyber End Dragons!”
Zane gave a small smile. “I don’t.”
Jaden’s mouth dropped open. “Then how…?”
Zane chuckled. “My Recycling Plant. Remember when I chose three cards to shuffle into my deck? I chose two Cyber Dragons, as you found out, but my third one was Cyber End Dragon. I just had a feeling…”
Jaden grinned. “I’ve got one too…I’m hungry! Care to join me in grabbing a snack?”
Zane just shook his head and fell into step beside his friend, who was still going on and on about the duel.
Up in the booth, Christy turned to her brother. “What do you think?”
Greg turned to face her and gave a full smile. “I really hope Zane wins this thing, because I sooo want to duel him!”
Christy just shook her head as the crowd below began cheering.
