Episode 69: “Prehistoric Rivalry”
“Now for our final duel of the opening round” Jaden called to the crowd. “I give Chazz Princeton of Slifer Red and Tyranno Hassleberry of Ra Yellow!”
Up in the observation deck, Greg groaned.
“What is it?” Violet asked.
“I was hoping this wouldn’t come” Greg grumbled. He stood up and began walking away. “I’ll be back when this is over”
Violet and Sophia looked at each other and shrugged. Then they turned back to the arena, where Chazz and Tyranno had finished shuffling their decks.
“Listen dino boy” Chazz said. “Our friendship, if you could call it that, will not interfere with this duel. I plan to crush you like a bug!”
Tyranno inserted his deck into his duel disk and activated it. “I wouldn’t have it any other way soldier”
Chazz activated his disk and slammed his deck in. “Duel!”
Chazz – 8000 Tyranno – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Tyranno had Jurassic World, Black Tyranno, Earthquake, Monster Reborn, and Sabersaurus. Chazz had Armed Dragon LV3, Level Up, Armed Dragon LV5, Ojama Yellow, and Armor Upgrade.
Tyranno drew his opening card. (Jurassic World) “I activate Jurassic World! This Field Spell increases the ATK of my Dinosaurs by 200! Now I summon Sabersaurus in ATK mode (1900 à 2100 ATK) and end my turn”
Chazz drew his next card. (Ojama Black) “I summon Armed Dragon LV3 to the field in ATK mode! I now activate Level Up which lets me sacrifice my dragon to summon Armed Dragon LV5! (2500 ATK) Now destroy Sabersaurus!”
Chazz – 8000 Tyranno – 7600
“And since he destroyed a monster, during my end face I can send my dragon to the graveyard to summon a new monster” Chazz smirked. “Meet Armed Dragon LV7! (2800 ATK) That concludes my turn”
“Wow, only two turns into the duel and Chazz already has his Level 7” Sophia remarked. “When he dueled me it took him till the end to the duel”
“Well, Chazz did upgrade his deck” Kai remarked. “I saw him pitch out the VWXYZ combo”
Sophia turned back to the field. “What else is Chazz hiding then?”
Soon Hassleberry, Chazz thought, you’ll face the full power of my deck and nothing you’ve got will be able to stop it!
Tyranno drew his next card. (Jurassic DNA) “I’ll start things off with the Spell card Earthquake to switch all monsters to DEF mode!”
Violet groaned. “Here we go again. The Black Tyranno Combo”
“I now activate Jurassic DNA, which let’s me summon one Dinosaur monster as long as I have at least one Dino in my grave, so Black Tyranno, front and center!” Tyranno cried as the large, black T-Rex appeared behind him. (Black Tyranno: 2600 ATK) “Since all your monsters are in defense, I can attack you directly! Black Tyranno, attack with Jurassic Stomp!”
Chazz – 5400 Tyranno – 7600
Chazz drew his next card. (Level Up) He slowly grinned. “Heh…it’s time”
“Time for what?” asked Tyranno.
Chazz began cackling. “TO BEGIN YOUR DOOM!”
“Okay…” Tyranno sweatdropped.
Chazz narrowed his eyes. “Oh you think I’m laughing eh? I ACTIVATE THE SPELL CARD LEVEL UP!”
Suddenly, Chazz’s dragon was surrounded in a growing green light.
Chazz smirked. “My Level Up allows me to send my Armed Dragon LV7 to the grave to summon my ultimate monster!”
Oh no… Sophia thought.
The dragon suddenly grew larger. Its silver armor began covering its body. Once the transformation was complete, it let out a roar that shook the arena.
Chazz cackled yet again. “SAY HELLO TO MY ARMED DRAGON LV10!”
“Oh boy…” Sophia muttered.
Kai, Violet, Johan, and Mars turned and looked at her. “What?” demanded Johan.
Sophia was staring at the new monster. “I’ve faced that card before and it was a hassle to take down. And Chazz didn’t even activate its ability…”
“What ability?” asked Johan.
“Watch” Sophia said simply
Chazz’s smile, if possible, grew even wider. “I now activate the power of my Dragon! By discarding my Ojama Yellow, my Armed Dragon LV10 can destroy all monsters on your side of the field!”
The large brute reared its head and unleashed a torrent of flame, incinerating Black Tyranno in seconds.
“Now Armed Dragon LV10, attack him directly!” Chazz roared.
Another wave of flame washed over Tyranno, forcing him backwards as his LP decreased.
Chazz – 5400 Tyranno – 4600
“Now I’ll just set this card facedown (Armor Upgrade)” Chazz said. “And end my turn”
Tyranno drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) Right, I’m officially in trouble right now. Chazz has his best monster out and he’s in the lead! But maybe my Spell could help me… “I activate Pot of Greed! This will let me draw two more cards.” Tyranno looked as his two cards. Hmm…Big Evolution Pill and Ultimate Tyranno! Excellent! “Alright Chazzy-boy, time to take your dragon down! I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Sabersaurus! Now I activate Big Evolution Pill! By sacrificing my Dino, I can make it so I don’t any sacrifices to summon ULTIMATE TYRANNO! (3000 ATK)” Tyranno held up his arms as his brown-black dino emerged behind him. “Now I activate Jurassic World! This gives my Ultimate Tyranno a 300 ATK point boost, giving him 3300 ATK and enough power to take down your dragon! Ultimate Tyranno, attack! Destroy Armed Dragon LV10!”
Chazz laughed again. “I activate my Armor Upgrade! After activation, it’s treated as an Equip Card and it’s equipped to my dragon. Now it can’t be destroyed in battle!”
Chazz – 5100 Tyranno – 4600
Chazz drew his next card. (Ojama Black) “I discard my draw card to activate Armed Dragon LV10’s ability! Say goodbye to your Dino! Armed Dragon LV10, ATTACK HIM DIRECTLY!!!”
Chazz – 5100 Tyranno – 450
Tyranno looked at his life counter and yelled “Hey, what gives? I was dealt an extra 1150 damage!”
Chazz chuckled. “Oh yeah, Armor Upgrade has another ability: when I attack you directly, my monster’s ATK is increased by 25% of your LP until the end of turn”
Up on the observation deck, Kai shook his head. “This really bites for Tyranno. He’s below 500 LP while Chazz has barely been dealt any damage! He’s gonna need a miracle to win right now”
Sophia smiled slightly. “Since he’s a friend of Jaden’s, I bet he’ll get one”
Tyranno looked at his deck. Dino’s, don’t fail me now! He drew slowly…
And broke into a grin as he looked at the card. “I’ll activate Reckless Greed! This let’s me draw two cards at the cost of my next draw phase! (Super Conductor Tyranno and Reckless Greed) I’ll now activate another Reckless Greed to draw another two cards (Dark Hole and Graceful Charity) I’ll now activate Graceful Charity to draw another 3 cards (Prehistoric Fury, Gilasaurus, Uraby) and discard two (Gilasaurus and Uraby). I now activate Dark Hole to destroy your monster!”
“NOOOO!!!!” Chazz cried as his dragon was sucked into a black vortex.
Tyranno grinned. “I’m not done yet. As you know, Big Evolution Pill lasts 3 turns, so I don’t need any sacrifices to summon SUPER CONDUCTOR TYRANNO! (3300 ATK)”
Behind Tyranno emerged another T-Rex…that had metal armor and lightning bolts flying off his body.
“But now…I’ll activate Prehistoric Fury! This Spell Card allows me to double the ATK of my Super Conductor Tyranno when the difference between our LP is greater than my monster’s ATK!”
“But that means…” Chazz said weakly.
“THAT MY MONSTER HAS 6600 ATK! SUPER CONDUCTOR TYRANNO, FINISH THIS WITH VOLTIC STOMP!”
Chazz groaned as a lightning-filled paw stepped on him, depleting his LP in one shot.
Chazz – 0 Tyranno – 450
Just at that moment, Greg came back. “What did I miss?”
Kai, Sophia, Violet just stared at him as Tyranno assisted Chazz off the arena, signifying the end of the opening rounds of the Duelist Academy Grand Championship.
