Yu-Gi-Oh! The Four Virtues

Episode 5: “Castle Walls”

Toshiro Henry skidded to a halt at the starting line of his now-finished race. Taking off his helmet, he stared at his friends Jaya, Mara, and Tokyro. “Well?” they all asked.

Smiling, Toshiro held up a deck, then turned it around so the picture of Gold Eyes Storm Dragon showed.

Tokyro punched the air. Mara grinned. Jaya whistled.

Toshiro just looked at his deck, happy that it was his again.

Suddenly, a voice blared through the loudspeakers. “Will Mara Truesdale report to the starting line for her duel?”

Mara swung her head, making her hair swing as well. “Well, time for me to go”

Tokyro nodded. “Go for it.”

Toshiro grinned. “You’ll win.”

Jaya gave her best friend a hug. “Good luck!”

Mara grinned back and dashed to her bike. “Who’s my opponent?” she wondered aloud as she put on her helmet.

“I am” answered a voice.

Mara turned around. The person who had spoken was a boy with shoulder-length blonde hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue trench coat on top of a black shirt and black jeans. “Who the hell are you?” she asked.

The boy smirked and walked next to his D-Wheel, one that was copper-colored and had lots of gears sticking artfully out of it. “I’m Krueller Crowler…and your opponent.”

Mara climbed onto her D-Wheel, a silver one with the head of a Cyber Dragon at the front. “Mara Truesdale…and ready when you are.”

Krueller jumped onto his bike, put on his helmet, and pressed a button. The two bike’s turned on and their duel disks activated. “Duel Mode activated. Auto Pilot on standby.”

“Duel!” The two teenagers shouted as they roared over the starting line, with Mara in front.

Mara – 4000                Krueller – 4000

“I’ll go first!” Krueller announced, drawing a card and adding it to his hand (Ancient Gear Soldier, Unfinished Time Box, Ancient Gear Golem, Ancient Gear Golem, Ancient Gear Castle, and Crazy Summon Gear). “I summon Ancient Gear Soldier in DEF mode!” In a flash, the rust colored machine with the gun arm appeared in a crouching position. “I set one card facedown (Unfinished Time Box) and end my turn.”

Mara silently drew her card and looked at her hand: Cyber Dragon, Proto-Cyber Dragon, Polymerization, Limiter Removal, Cybernetic Zone, and Cyber Phoenix. “I Special Summon Cyber Dragon since I have no monsters out and you do. (2100 ATK)” she announced and in a flash of light, the silver metallic dragon appeared. “Next, I summon Proto-Cyber Dragon!” In another flash, the miniature, darker version of Cyber Dragon appeared. “Next, I activate Polymerization! I fuse my two monsters together to form Cyber Twin Dragon! (2800 ATK)” In a flash, the two-headed version of Cyber Dragon appeared.

“Wait, how did you do that?” Krueller asked. “You didn’t have two Cyber Dragons!”

Mara grinned. “When Proto-Cyber Dragon is on the field, it’s name is treated as Cyber Dragon. Now my monster, attack Ancient Gear Soldier! Evolution Twin Burst!”

The two heads fired orange blasts of energy at the mechanical soldier, blowing it apart.

“There’s more!” Mara continued. “My Dragon can attack once more!”

Krueller grinned. “No it can’t! I activate my Trap Card: Unfinished Time Box! This card can only be activated when I lose a monster in battle and it removes your monster from the game until this card is destroyed!”

Mara narrowed her eyes. “Forget it you SOB! I activate my Spell Card Cybernetic Zone! This removes my monster from the game!”

Just as the metallic box was about to close around the dragon, it glowed with blue light and disappeared.

Krueller smirked. “You’re just making my life easier.”

Mara didn’t reply, she just continued “I set one card facedown (Limiter Removal) and end my turn.”

Just as she finished her sentence, a gigantic portal opened beside her.

“What the hell?!” Krueller exclaimed, looking back.

Mara smirked. “My Cybernetic Zone has a second ability: at the end of my turn, the monster I removed returns at double the strength!”

“Double?!” Krueller repeated.

Sure enough, the twin headed dragon emerged from the portal, twice as large as before, and let out a primal roar. (5600 ATK)

Krueller didn’t make a remark about the huge dragon, he just drew his next card. (Mirror Force) “I set one card facedown and end my turn.”

Mara drew her next card. (Cyber Dragon) “I summon Cyber Phoenix in ATK mode! (1200 ATK)” In a flash, the silver bird with red outlines appeared. “Now, Cyber Twin Dragon, finish this! Evolution Twin Burst!”

The two dragon head unleashed a blast of orange flame at the boy in front of them, only to have them reversed back at them, one blast destroying one monster each.

Mara narrowed her eyes. “I’ve got a feeling you’ve just activated…”

“Mirror Force” Krueller finished, smirking.

Mara sighed. “I end my turn.”

Krueller drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards (Revenge Revival and Spell Gear). I activate Revenge Revival! This Spell card allows you to choose one Level 4 monster in your Graveyard, Special Summon it in DEF mode, and increase its DEF by 400”

Mara raised an eyebrow as she brought back Cyber Phoenix, its wings folded over its face. (2000 DEF) “Why are you giving me a defense?”
Krueller smirked. “You’ll see. Next, I activate Ancient Gear Castle! This Spell Card can take the place of a tribute depending on how many monsters are Special and Normal Summoned during this turn. Next, I activate Crazy Summon Gear. Now you can summon two monsters that are the same level as Cyber Phoenix.”

Mara searched through her deck. “I’ll summon two more Cyber Phoenixes in DEF mode. (1600 DEF)” In two flashed, two more mechanical birds appeared.

“Now I get to summon three monsters that are the same level as yours, so I summon three Ancient Gear Soldiers! (1300 ATK)” In a flash, three of Krueller’s previously destroyed mechanical soldiers appeared. “And since 5 monsters have been Special Summoned, I can add five counters to my Castle! Now, I sacrifice my Castle to summon Ancient Gear Golem! (3000 ATK)”

The new monster was a mechanical wonder: it was taller than a skyscraper, and it was rust-colored with gears protruding out of its shoulders.

“Next, I activate Spell Gear!” Krueller announced. “By sacrificing my three soldiers, I can summon two more Ancient Gear Golems! (3000 ATK)”

Mara’s jaw fell open and two more of the mechanical colossuses appeared on either side of the first. “Oh crap…”

Krueller began laughing insanely. “Go my Golems, destroy her tin birds!”

The three machines slammed their fists on Mara’s Cyber Phoenixes, blowing them apart.

“And don’t forget, my Golems deal damage through defense” Krueller reminded her cheerfully.

“And don’t you forget that I can draw three cards since my Phoenixes were destroyed in battle!” Mara retorted through gritted teeth. (Cyber Dragon, Proto-Cyber Dragon, and Simultaneous Fusion)

Mara – 200                  Krueller – 4000

Mara drew her next card (Limiter Removal). “I summon Proto-Cyber Dragon in ATK mode!” In a flash, the chibi-Cyber Dragon appeared. “Next, I activated Simultaneous Fusion! I can only activate this card if both players have Fusion Monsters they can summon. Both players fuse the appropriate monsters and summon their monsters. So, I’ll fuse Proto-Cyber Dragon with the two Cyber Dragons in my hand to summon Cyber End Dragon! (4000 ATK)” In a flash, the tri-headed version of Cyber Dragon stretched its wings and flew out of the vortex above Mara.

Krueller smirked. “I’ll fuse my three monsters together to form Ancient Gear Ultimate Golem (4400 ATK)!” Krueller’s fusion was even more impressive than Cyber End Dragon: it was a mechanical centaur, with its upper body the upper body a copy of Ancient Gear Golem, except it had a huge three-pronged claw. “That move did absolutely nothing Mara. You’ve just sealed your fate.”

Mara snorted. “You wish. Go, Limiter Removal! This Spell Card doubles the power of my dragon!” The three heads roared happily to the heavens as it was covered with a blue aura. (4000 à 8000 ATK)

Krueller gulped. “Nice, but not enough to beat me.”

Mara smirked. “Facedown card, reveal yourself!”

Krueller looked back as the card flipped up…and paled. “No…”

“Yes!” Mara crowed. “I activate a second Limiter Removal! My dragon’s ATK is doubled again!” The three heads roared once more as the aura surrounding it grew darker. (8000 à 16000 ATK)

“CYBER END DRAGON, ATTACK ANCIENT GEAR ULTIMATE GOLEM! SUPER STRIDENT BLAZE!”

The three heads unleashed a torrent of orange flame that crackled with blue lightning. It hit the mechanical centaur head-on, blowing it into pixels.

Mara – 200                  Krueller – 0

Mara pulled up alongside her opponent, whose terminal was flashing “Defeat” continuously. “Thanks for the duel”

Krueller rubbed his head. “Thanks”

Mara stayed put, looking at him. “That was an impressive move, summoning all your Golems in one turn. Didn’t your father do that once?”

Krueller nodded. “Yeah. Against one of his students...Jaden something.”

Mara’s jaw dropped. “No way…your dad taught JADEN YUKI?!”

Krueller shrugged. “Yeah. So?”

Mara smirked. “My best friend is Jaden Yuki’s daughter.”

Krueller’s eyes widened.

Mara added sweetly. “I’m sure she’d want to duel you, you know”

Krueller slammed his head into his terminal, as Mara laughed loudly.

Unknown to them, several figures stood on the skyscraper above them. All of them were nearly the same height and they wore dark cloaks with their hoods raised.

“Are we ready to strike?” asked a crisp girl’s voice.

One of the hoodies bowed. “Yes mistress. We can strike after the next duel.”

Another hoodie stepped forward. “Ma’am, let me take on our target.”

The leader laughed contemptuously. “You?!” she asked incredulously. “You had your chance and you blew it!”

“But it wasn’t my fault!” he protested. “His luck…!”

“Silence!” snapped the girl. “I won’t accept excuses. I just want those cards, meaning we need to get those four out of the way. Is that clear?”

All the other nodded.

“Mistress?” asked the first hoodie. “What about you? What will you do?”

The leader turned back in the direction of the starting, where the next duel was being prepared. “I’ll bide my time…and wait for my opponent to show his or her face.”
