Yu-Gi-Oh! The Four Virtues Episode 15: “Static”
“So,” Fate began, rubbing her brow tiredly, “what happened up there?” Fate, Toshiro, Tokyro, Jaya, and Mara were all sitting in the Kaiba Corp lounge, discussing the events that had transpired recently. Jaya and Toshiro had dueled on the roof, making a glowing symbol appear in the sky and on the four friend’s arms. Subsequently, Fate dueled Jeremy in Toshiro’s place, and she agreed to tell what she knew. “Well, Jaya and I dueled, “Toshiro explained, “and after Jaya activated her Trap Card, we were both blown back. When we came to, four interlocking circles with stars inscribed in them appeared above our heads.” “One circle for each arm” Fate guessed. Jaya nodded. “Mine’s red, Toshiro’s silver, Tokyro’s blue, and Mara’s green.” Fate nodded and sighed. “Guys…what happened up there…is something I have no knowledge of.” Toshiro looked at her, startled. “Really?” Fate nodded again. “Four interlocking circles with stars in them? Doesn’t ring a bell. But I’ll do some research if you want.” Toshiro was about to respond, when a claxon sounded. “Will Mara Truesdale and Jaya Yuki report to the starting line?” the announcer blared. The two ladies looked at each and grinned. “Finally…” Mara breathed. “We face each other.” Jaya finished. Tokyro looked at the two girls. “Toshiro…who do I root for?!” Toshiro shrugged. “For whomever you want. I’m gonna stick with Fate and look up everything I can about that strange symbol we saw.” The two girls were already racing to their D-Wheels. Tokyro half-heartedly followed. Fate glanced at Toshiro. “You’ll stay with me?” Toshiro grinned. “Well…I do owe you a date…”

Jaya and Mara were positioned at the starting line. Both were mounted on their D-Wheels, both had their helmets on, and both decks were shuffled and placed in their slots. Jaya revved the motor. “Ready, Mara?” Mara smirked. “Way ahead of you” “DUEL!” The two females opened their engines all the way and roared down the road.
Jaya – 4000 Mara – 4000
The duel duelists looked at their opening hands. Jaya had Clayman, Avian, Sparkman, Bubbleman, and Reverse World. Mara’s hand contained Cyber Dragon, Cyber Kirin, Graceful Charity, Forced Activation, and System Reboot. “I go first!” Jaya announced, ripped the top card from her deck (Burstinatrix) “I summon my Avian in DEF mode! (1000 DEF)” The green hero with white feathered wings erupted from nothingness and glided alongside Jaya, arms protecting its face. “That’s all for me” she finished. Mara drew her card silently (Polymerization). “I Special Summon my Cyber Dragon in ATK mode! (2100 ATK)” In a flash, the silver metallic dragon slithered onto the field. “Now my dragon, attack Avian!” Cyber Dragon opened its maw and shot a blast of orange flame at the Hero, incinerating it in seconds. “Next, I set two cards facedown (Forced Activation and System Reboot) and end my turn” As she completed her sentence, two holographic projection of facedown cards appeared on either side of her D-Wheel for a few seconds before disappearing. Jaya drew her next card. (Polymerization) “I activate Polymerization! I fuse my Sparkman and Clayman together to create my Elemental Hero Thunder Giant! (2400 ATK)” The aforementioned hero wore blue and gold armor that covered his Clayman-like body. A bright blue orb was situated on his chest and a helmet covered his face. “Now I activate his effect: by discarding my Burstinatrix, I can destroy a monster who has less ATK than my Thunder Giant!” Thunder Giant gathered a ball of lightning between his hands and flung it at Cyber Dragon, overloading its circuits and making it explode. “The best thing is, my monster can still attack you!” Jaya exclaimed. “Go, smite her with Lightning Fist!” Thunder Giant raised his right arm and brought it down on Mara, surrounding her with electricity.
Jaya – 4000 Mara – 1600
“That end my turn!” Jaya finished triumphantly. Mara glared at her friend and viciously drew the next card from her deck. Glancing at it, she noticed that the circle mark on her arm was glowing. What does it mean…? She wondered before returned her attention to the duel. “Since I have a monster and you don’t, I’ll just toss out another Cyber Dragon.” Another mechanical dragon appeared on the field, hissing at Thunder Giant. “Next, I’ll activate my Monster Reborn to bring back the monster you destroyed!” In a flash, the first Cyber Dragon joined its counterpart. “However, I’ll now activate Polymerization and fuse them together to create my Cyber Twin Dragon!” The monster that emerged from the vortex was essentially a Cyber Dragon with two heads. “By the way, my monster can attack twice, so brace yourself! Cyber Twin Dragon, Twin Evolution Burst!” The two heads opened their maws and unleashed their energy. One tore a hole through Thunder Giant, banishing it from the field. The other hit Jaya dead on, making her reduce speed and swerve, allowing Mara to speed ahead.
Jaya – 800 Mara – 1600
Scowling, Jaya drew her next card, noticing for the first time her glowing red symbol. She also noticed that her draw card was her Steadfast. Like that will do me any good right now, she fumed. “I set one card facedown (Reverse World) and end my turn!” Mara drew her next card (Cyber Dragon). “Cyber Twin Dragon…END THIS!” Jaya smirked as the dragon turned to face her. “Perfect…” Mara glanced back. “Wha…?” “Go, Reverse World!” Jaya cried, her Trap Card lifting up. “This special card allows us to switch Life Points, Monsters, facedowns…everything except our present hands and decks!” “WHAT?!” Mara shouted as her monster and two traps vanished and reappeared with Jaya. Glancing at her screen, she checked the Life Point total:
Jaya – 1600 Mara – 800
“By the way, Mara…” Jaya continued, “this also means you Battle Phase becomes mine, meaning this duel’s over!” “Not quite, Jaya!” Mara cried. “Go, Forced Activation!” “What?!” Jaya shrieked as one of the cards she took from her opponent flipped up. “How…?” “Forced Activation can only be activated when your opponent activated a Trap Card and when there is another card in a Spell/Trap Zone. I choose another facedown in play and force it to activate, so I’ll choose the other card you swiped!” Jaya stared as the other facedown flipped face-up. “System Reboot…” she read softly. “Right!” Mara exclaimed. “Now all cards on the field are returned to their owners, and I may draw a card for each one returned.” As she drew her card (Kindred Soul), Cyber Twin Dragon shimmered and vanished, leaving the space between the two duelists empty for the first time since the beginning of the duel. Jaya gritted her teeth. “It’s still my turn, so I can summon a monster! Go, Bubbleman!” The blue armored and caped crusader leaped to the field and knelt down, protecting his face with his arms. “Next, I set one card facedown (Steadfast) and end my turn.” Mara drew her next card. (Polymerization) “I Special Summon Cyber Dragon to the field!” She announced. As she spoke, the metallic snake appeared on the field for the third time that duel. Jaya cursed loudly. “Will that thing ever die?!” Mara grinned slightly. “Hate to break it to you Jaya, but its brethren is about to join the party! I activate the Spell Card Kindred Soul! By paying half my LP, I can select one monster on my field and Special Summon as many copies of it as I can from my deck or graveyard!”
Jaya – 1600 Mara – 400
Jaya gasped. “That means…” “Cyber Dragons, return to me!” Mara cried. A portal behind her opened, and two more Cyber Dragons appeared on the field. “Now, I activate Polymerization! I fuse my three monsters together to summon my ultimate monster!” Here is comes…, Jaya thought. The three dragons floated into the air and weaved around each other, disappearing into the vortex that opened behind them. “Technology’s greatest weapon shall be constructed, and obliterate the unworthy!” Suddenly, a flash of light cut across the field. Jaya had to shield her eyes with one arm. “The ultimate construct, Cyber End Dragon! (4000 ATK)” The monster was a mechanical wonder: three heads sprouted from a monstrous Cyber Dragon body. Silver metal wings protruded from its back. “I hope you haven’t forgotten Cyber End Dragon’s ability, Jaya!” Mara called to her. “It deals damage even though your monster is in DEF mode! So that means this duel is over!” The tri-head threat unleashed three blasts of light at the blue Elemental Hero… “Go Trap Card!” Jaya shouted. “My Steadfast will reduce all Battle Damage I take to zero!” The three streams cut down the caped crusader, but a silver dome enveloped Jaya, shielding her from harm. “Also, I get to draw an extra card.” Jaya concluded (Kishido Spirit). Mara gritted her teeth. “That ends my turn.” Jaya drew her next card (Pot of Greed). “I activate Pot of Greed!” She announced, drawing two cards due to her Spell Card’s effect (King of the Swamp and Miracle Fusion). “Now I activate the ability of King of the Swamp: I discard it to the graveyard to add a Polymerization card to my hand. However, I really don’t need it, for this duel’s over!” “How?” Mara questioned. Then her eyes widened. “Oh no…” “I activate Miracle Fusion!” Jaya cried, holding the card aloft. It glowed with hidden power. Jaya smirked. “You pulled out your trump card, so I’ll introduce you to mine! I remove King of the Swamp—who is a Fusion Substitute, by the way—and Sparkman from the game!” The slimy ghoul and the yellow armored Hero vanished into a shining void, which immediately began radiating light. “Amongst the shadows the source of light shall burst through, and enlighten the world!” Suddenly, a bright light cut across the field. “Become the sun, Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman! (2500 ATK)” The new hero had silver armor with yellow lines criss-crossing it. Metal wings protruded from its back. “My hero has a special ability of its own!” Jaya announced. “For every hero in the grave, it gains 300 ATK! (2500 à 4000 ATK)” “Nice.” Mara admitted. “But the two will only draw, leaving me enough time to win the duel next turn.” “Nope, because I activate Kishido Spirit!” Jaya explained as she slid the Spell Card into the appropriate slot. “Now my Flare Wingman will live when it battles a monster with the same ATK as it!” Mara bowed her head and smiled. “So finish it…” “With pleasure!” Jaya threw her bike into a skid and pointed at her opponent. “Shining Flare Wingman, destroy Cyber End Dragon!” The armored Hero cupped his hands together and began gathering energy… “SHINING SHOT!” A blast of yellow light flew at the dragon, who tried to intercept it with its own blasts of energy. Resistance, however, was futile: Jaya’s attack plowed straight on through the dragon and into Mara, who received 4000 damage due to Shining Flare Wingman’s ability.
Jaya – 1600 Mara – 0
The two duelists skidded to a halt and smiled at each other. “That was fun!” Mara exclaimed. “The most fun I had in a while!” Jaya nodded. “That really helped me; I really need to vent after…” here her face darkened. Mara looked at her, a concerned look in her eye. “You okay?” Jaya took a deep breath, then let it out. “I will be…” She revved the motor again and started driving back towards Kaiba Corp. Mara still heard her parting words: “once I make Toshiro pay.”
