Yu-Gi-Oh! The Four Virtues Episode 21: “The Finals”
Toshiro was sitting on his D-Wheel, looking through his deck one last time. In a matter of minutes, the Finals match would begin. His opponent was none other than Jaya Yuki, his closest friend. The two had dueled once before, and they wanted a rematch to determine who was actually superior; the aforementioned match was interrupted by the appearance of a glowing symbol in the sky. The sound of footsteps brought him out of his thoughts. “Toshiro, are you ready?” Toshiro looked at the speaker: it was his friend Sarah Smith. “Nearly” he replied. “How come you’re out here? You’re the tournament organizer, after all.” Sarah shrugged. “Yes I am, but right now I’m a concerned friend.” She perched on the edge of Toshiro’s D-Wheel and looked up at the imposing structure of Kaiba Corporation’s main building. “How are you going to get around Lightforce?” Toshiro glanced over at her. “How did…?” Sarah giggled. “I know many things, Toshiro…including that unofficial duel the two of you had. So, what’s your plan?” Toshiro shrugged. “I’ll make one up as I go along” Sarah turned to face the user of the Destiny Heroes. “You’re going to need a planned strategy,” she pressed, “and I think I may have one.” Toshiro shot her a glance. “No. If I win, I want it to be because of my own power, not someone else’s.” Sarah sighed impatiently. “Toshiro, I can help you! Just let me…” “No!” Sarah flinched at the harsh tone. She was unaccustomed to hearing one use it with her. “This is my fight, Sarah!” Toshiro continued. “I don’t need—or want—or advice! I know Jaya, which can give me great insight as to how she fights!” Toshiro took a deep breath, and then placed a hand on Sarah’s shoulder. “Just trust me.” Suddenly, a gong sounded. Toshiro turned to mount his ride, but Sarah quickly pulled him into an embrace. “Good luck” she breathed, making the hairs on Toshiro’s neck stand on end. Embarrassed, he patted Sarah awkwardly on the back before pulling away. “Thanks.” Once disengaged, he mounted his D-Wheel and fastened his helmet. Sarah stepped back into the building as Jaya rode up. “Toshiro, are you ready?” Jaya asked over the rumbling motors. Toshiro grinned in return. “We each kept our end of the bargain…so now, here we are.” “Only one can emerge victorious” Jaya acknowledged. Toshiro pressed a button and activated his D-Wheel’s Duel Mode. “Well then, let’s settle this!” Jaya activated her Duel Mode, and without further ado they shot down the lane, Jaya slightly in the lead.
Jaya – 4000 Toshiro – 4000
“It’s my move!” Jaya announced, drawing a sixth card (Sparkman, Clayman, Hero Counterattack, Lightforce, Pot of Greed, and Hero Barrier). “I summon Elemental Hero Sparkman in ATK Mode! (1600 ATK)” In a flash, the yellow and blue armored hero appeared in a blaze of lightning. “Next, I set one card facedown (Hero Counterattack) and end my turn.” Toshiro drew his sixth card (Dasher, Disk Commander, Polymerization, Call of the Haunted, Angel Lift, and Vengeance Armor). “Just like last match…” he mused aloud. “Toshiro, are you gonna take all day?” Jaya asked, her hair whipping behind her. “Don’t worry,” Toshiro consoled, “I activate Polymerization! I fuse my Destiny Heroes Disk Commander and Dasher together to form Destiny Hero Street Commander! (3000 ATK)” The monster that emerged from the vortex had gold body armor, with black armor for his legs and hands. His head was protected by a helmet, and he wore mini-jet engines on his thighs and shoulders. “Street Commander, attack Sparkman!” Toshiro shouted. “Street Justice Attack!” The hero leapt into the air and began to bring his clawed hand down… “Trap Card go!” Jaya cried. A purple card flipped face-up, revealing an Elemental Hero Sparkman in the middle of a junkyard. “My Hero Counterattack lets you select one card in my hand and if it’s a Hero, then your monster is destroyed!” Toshiro glared critically at the four cards in her hand, then said “Center left” Jaya slowly smirked. “Why thank you Toshiro; that was Clayman!” In a flash, the brown hero appeared and punched a hole through the incoming Street Commander. Toshiro grimaced. “Street Commander lets me draw an extra card when its destroyed.” Toshiro looked at his new card, and raised his eyebrows. The card was unfamiliar: to the best of his knowledge, he never had it in his deck. The card also seemed to pulse dangerously. What is this…thing? He wondered. “Toshiro…” Jaya called. “It’s still your move!” Shaking himself out of his revere, Toshiro concluded his turn with two reverse cards (Call of the Haunted and Angel Lift). Jaya drew her next card (Polymerization). “Toshiro! It seems to be fate that we duel again! Not only are we linked by our friendship, but by the marks on our arms! History seems to be repeating itself: the past two turns are exactly the same as the ones of our previous duel!” Toshiro drew breath sharply. “You’re right,” he realized. He glanced at his arm, which was glowing ominously. “But why…?” Meanwhile, Jaya was beginning her turn. “I activate my own Polymerization! I fuse my two monsters together to form Elemental Hero Thunder Giant! (2400 ATK)” The monster that emerged from vortex had gold and blue armor, but its body was more like Clayman’s. A bluish orb was in the middle of its chest. “Thunder Giant, direct attack!” Jaya commanded. “Lightning Fist!” “Trap Card go!” Toshiro shouted. “My Angel Lift brings back my Disk Commander in DEF mode!” In a flash, the light-blue clothed hero appeared and took the attack for his master. “Disk Commander’s effect also lets me draw two cards when he’s brought back from the graveyard.” Toshiro stated (Diamond Dude and Pot of Greed). “I set one card facedown (Lightforce) and end my turn” Jaya finished. Toshiro drew his next card. (Mirror Coat) “I activate my facedown card: Call of the Haunted!” His final facedown depicted a graveyard with black smoke issuing from the tombstones. “With this card I bring back my Destiny Hero Dasher! (2100 ATK)” In a flash, the silver armored hero appeared. “Next, I summon Destiny Hero Diamond Dude! (1400 ATK)” In a flash, the hero with diamond spikes and a green cape appeared. “Now I activate his ability and discard the top card of my deck, and if it’s a normal spell card I can activate it next turn. Now, next up is my Dasher’s ability: I sacrifice my Diamond Dude to increase my Dasher’s ATK by 1000! (2100 à 3100 ATK) Now Dasher, destroy Thunder Giant! Speed Spin Kick!” Dasher sped towards the opposing Hero, and launched itself into a spin, its right foot connecting with Thunder Giant’s orb center, making it explode. The shockwave made Jaya decelerate, letting Toshiro take the lead.
Jaya – 3300 Toshiro – 4000
“I set one card facedown (Vengeance Armor) and end my turn, therefore switching Dasher to DEF mode. (1000 DEF)” Jaya drew her next card. (King of the Swamp) “I activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards (Warrior Returning Alive and Polymerization). Now I activate The Warrior Returning Alive to return Sparkman to my hand! Next, Polymerization activates again! I fuse my Sparkman and King of Swamp, who’s substituting for Flame Wingman, together!” A vortex opened up behind her and began to crackle with power. “Amongst the shadows the source of light shall burst through, and enlighten the world!” Suddenly, a bright light cut across the field. “Become the sun, Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman! (2500 ATK)” The new hero had silver armor with yellow lines criss-crossing it. Metal wings protruded from its back. Toshiro grinned at its entrance. “You’re upping the ante!” “My Shining Flare Wingman gains 300 ATK for every hero in my graveyard” Jaya explained. “And when it destroys your monster, you take damage equal to its ATK! (2500 à 3400 ATK) Shining Flare Wingman, attack Destiny Hero Dasher!” The winged monster leapt into the air and raised its arms. “SHINING SHOT!” A burst of gold light erupted from its palms, blowing apart Toshiro’s monster. The blast made Toshiro slow down as to avoid a collision. Taking advantage, Jaya sped on ahead.
Jaya – 3300 Toshiro – 1900
Toshiro drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards (Destiny Hero Blade Master and Destiny Draw). Next, I activate Destiny Draw! By discarding by Blade Master, I can draw an extra two cards (Megavolver and Destiny Hero Plasma). Now I activate the card sent to the grave by Diamond Dude: Destined Fusion!” It’s coming! Jaya thought, adrenaline pumping through her system. “I remove Blade Master and Dasher from the game to summon a new type of hero!” Toshiro announced as the two monsters disappeared into the vortex behind him. “The ultimate warrior shall arm himself for battle, and push back the darkness!” Suddenly, a bright light cut across the field in front of Toshiro. “Fight on, Destiny Hero – Arms Master! (2500 ATK)” Toshiro cried. The new monster wore black and silver armor with spikes protruding from the shoulders. Two sickle-like claws protruded from each of his wrists. His head was protected by a black helmet. “Now I activate the Equip Spell Mirror Coat!” Toshiro shouted. Arms Master was suddenly covered in a glass armor that fitted over his regular armor. “Arms Master, attack Shining Flare Wingman!” Toshiro commanded. Arms Master leapt at his counterpart, both arms poised for a cross-slash. “Shining Flare Wingman, counterattack!” Jaya retaliated. The Elemental Hero unleashed a blast of energy at Arms Master, who caught it in his hands and fired back at his opponent. Both the Hero and the glass armor exploded. “Mirror Coat’s ability…” Jaya remembered. Toshiro grinned. “When the equipped monster battles a stronger one, the two ATKs become equal! Also, my Mirror Coat can prevent the destruction of my monster by sacrificing itself!” Jaya chuckled. “I guess I should’ve seen that one coming…” “But I’m not done yet, Jaya!” Toshiro replied. “Go, Vengeance Armor!” The new Trap Card depicted a full black armored bodysuit surrounded by a red aura. “This card equips itself to Arms Master, and increases its ATK equal to the amount of cards that has been sent to the graveyard this turn! (2500 à 3000 ATK)” Jaya braced herself, remembering the blast from last time… “Arms Master’s ability gives it an additional attack for each Equip Spell on it! Now my monster, direct attack! Armory Assault!” Arms Master materialized in front of Jaya and slashed her twice across the chest, making her double over in pain.
Jaya – 300 Toshiro – 1900
“Jaya!” Toshiro drove up alongside her. “You okay?!” Jaya panted, resuming an upright position. “I’m fine…” she wheezed. Toshiro looked at her. “Jaya…something’s wrong here” “What?” Jaya asked, confused. “Earlier, I drew a card…” Toshiro began slowly. “A card that I didn’t draw before. Something’s changed.” “But how can time be changed?!” Jaya demanded. Toshiro sat in silence before gasping, “Oh crap…Sarah!” “Sarah?” Jaya repeated. “Sarah Smith?! What does she have to do with this?!” “Before the duel,” Toshiro recalled, “she was pressing me about how I was going to beat Lightforce…and before we started…” Toshiro gasped again, but this time out of pain. “Toshiro!” A black billowing smoke erupted from Toshiro’s lone facedown card. Jaya watched in horror as it enveloped her friend. Toshiro began screaming, but after a minute the smoke was absorbed into the body and Toshiro began to cackle. “Jaya Yuki,” Toshiro chuckled, his voice deeper and harsher than before, “prepare yourself for the taste of bitter defeat!” Jaya recoiled in shock. “What?! Toshiro, what happened?!” Toshiro—or the thing that had taken over Toshiro—sped ahead. “It’s your move” he declared as he slapped down a facedown, his armed servant returning to his side. Jaya drew her next card and her eyes brightened up at the sight of it “I set one card facedown and end my turn.” Toshiro drew his next card. “I equip Megavolver to my Arms Master!” In a flash, a large, futuristic rifle appeared in the hero’s hands. “This increases my monster’s ATK by 1000! (2500 à 3500 ATK)” “Toshiro, don’t do this!” Jaya pleaded. “Jaya Yuki, prepare to taste my wrath!” her opponent bellowed, “Arms Master, direct attack! Finish this and crown me king!” Arms Master used his new weapon and fired a blast at Jaya… “Trap Card open!” Jaya shouted. “Hero’s Wrath lets me pay half my LP to bring back my Shining Flare Wingman, no questions asked!” In a flash the hero reappeared. (2500 ATK à 3400 ATK)
Jaya – 150 Toshiro – 1900
“Arms Master is still stronger!” Toshiro replied. Jaya closed her eyes. It’s all up to you now, Shining Flare Wingman! Opening her eyes, she shouted “Go Lightforce!” A trap card revealed itself, and a gold light issued from her graveyard slot. “By removing Thunder Giant from the game, I can increase Shining Flare Wingman’s ATK by Thunder Giant’s!” Jaya exclaimed. A ghostly figure of Thunder Giant flowed into Shining Flare Wingman’s body, surrounding it with an aura of lightning. (3400 à 5800 ATK) “COUNTERATTACK!!” Jaya screamed. “BLAZING ELECTRIC SHOT!!” Shining Flare Wingman cupped it hands and fired a rocket of crackling golden energy at the incoming attack. The two streams collided and forced each other to a stalemate. Suddenly, a dark substance crept out of the ground and surrounded Shining Flare Wingman. Its attack ceased, and black energy flowed into Arms Master. “WHAT?!” Jaya cried in shock. “WHAT’S GOING ON?!” Dark Toshiro was cackling evilly. “That is the effect of my trump card: Underworld Reversal! Whenever an opponent’s monster gains ATK, that ATK is added to my monster instead!” Arms Master chuckled as it absorbed the shadows. (3500 à 5900 ATK) Jaya just gaped in shock and Shining Flare Wingman stood powerless before the incoming blast. Recovering her wits, she ordered “Counterattack! Aim for the card!” Toshiro’s body raised an eyebrow. “Huh?” Shining Flare Wingman fired another blast that swept past Arms Master and collided with the revealed Trap Card. “NO!” Before Shining Flare Wingman disintegrated, Underworld Reversal exploded, and the shadows screamed out of Toshiro’s body, his voice mingling with the wind and darkness. When the smoke vanished, both duelists were thrown from their rides, skidding over yards of tarmac before rolling to a rest next to each other, their blood mingling with each other and the dirt.
