Episode 4: “Soul Resurrection”
Toshiro Henry sat on his D-Wheel at the starting line. He was getting ready for his first duel of the tournament.
His opponent? Sean, the person who had stole his original deck all those years ago.
Jaya Yuki, who had already dueled, was standing next to him. “Be careful out there”
Toshiro looked at her. “I always am”
Jaya brushed aside his father’s famous phrase. “Seriously Toshiro, I n…I want you to be careful out there. Something isn’t right. I can feel it”
Toshiro looked at her dead in the eye. Whenever Jaya felt something, it usually came to be a reality. “What do you feel?”
Jaya looked over Toshiro’s shoulder at Sean, who was laughing with a few other goons. “Something sinister…something else is at work here.”
Toshiro followed Jaya’s gaze for a second and then looked at her. “Why are you so concerned?”
Jaya stared at him…and blushed?! “What? What do you mean?”
Toshiro grinned. “Why Jaya, it looks like you’re blushing!”
Jaya glared at him, her cheeks growing redder. “Shut your trap, Toshiro. Get your head in the game.”
Toshiro nodded, turning his head slightly to hide his growing smirk. “Sure, whatever you say Jaya.”
Suddenly, Mara come running up, her bluish-brown hair in a ponytail. “Tokyro’s back!”
The three teens watched their friend drive up, taking off his helmet as he went. “I did it. I’m in the next round.”
Mara grinned. “Good for you, Tokyro”
The son of Joe Malia looked at his best friend. “Ready Toshiro?”
He nodded and slipped on his helmet, putting his deck into its place afterwards. “Soul Resurrection”
Jaya watched him drive over to Sean. “What did he mean?” she asked aloud.
* * *
Sean and Toshiro lined up next to each other at the starting line. “Ready scumbag?” Sean asked his opponent.
Toshiro merely pressed a button, activating Duel Mode. “Duel Mode on.” blared the computer. “Auto-pilot on standby”
“Duel!” both duelists shouted, and they sped down the road, Sean in the lead.
Toshiro – 4000 Sean – 4000
“I’ll start things off!” Sean shouted, drawing a six card hand: Avian, Sparkman, Bubbleman, Polymerization, Terraforming, and Pot of Greed. “I play Polymerization! I fuse Elemental Heroes Avian, Bubbleman, and Sparkman together to form Elemental Hero Tempest! (2800 ATK)” In a flash of light, the famous hero with Avian’s head—and a visor—and wings, Sparkman’s body, Bubbleman’s colors, a claw gauntlet, and a futuristic blaster appeared. “That’ll end my turn”
Toshiro drew his sixth card and looked at his hand: Monster Reborn, Premature Burial, Destiny Hero Disk Commander, Destiny Hero Dasher, Destiny Draw, and D-Shield. “I activate Destiny Draw! By discarding Destiny Hero Disk Commander, I can draw two cards (D-Counter and Clock Tower Prison). Next, I’ll activate Monster Reborn to bring back Disk Commander! Now, I’ll sacrifice him to summon Destiny Hero Dasher! (2100 ATK)” In a flash, the small hero with bluish armor disappeared and the silver-armored hero took its place. “Now I activate Premature Burial! By paying 800 Life points, I can bring back disk commander!”
Toshiro – 3200 Sean – 4000
“Next, I’ll sacrifice him to activate Dasher’s ability!” Toshiro announced. “Dasher’s attack increases to 3100, enough to take out your Tempest! Now Dasher, Speed Spin Kick!”
Dasher charged forward and delivered a devastating spin kick to Tempest’s chest, blowing him apart.
Toshiro – 3200 Sean – 3700
“Next, I’ll set a card facedown (D-Shield) and end my turn, thereby switching Dasher to Defense Mode as well (1000 DEF)” Toshiro finished as Dasher went on one knee, his arms protecting his face.
Sean drew his next card. (Blue Eyes White Dragon) “Hey Scumhead! I have another one of your precious monsters here! But in order to summon him, I’ll need to activate Terraforming to order to bring a certain Field Spell to my hand. Now I’ll activate it: Mausoleum of the Emperor!” At once, the two duelists were surrounded by a sort of grave site with terra cotta statues surrounding them. “Now, I activate the ability of my Spell Card! By paying 2000 Life Points…”
Toshiro – 3200 Sean – 1700
“I can summon this monster without Tributes! Arise, Blue Eyes White Dragon!” Sean shouted, punching the sky. In a flash, the famous blue dragon appeared. “Now attack his puny Dasher! White Lightning Attack!”
The dragon opened its maw and began to gather white energy…
“Trap Card Go!” Toshiro shouted. “D-Shield! With this card, Dasher stays in DEF mode and can’t be destroyed in battle!” Suddenly, Dasher was surrounded by a protective wall of purple stone.
Sean smirked as his dragon’s attack stopped. “Well, I’ll activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards (Dragon’s Rage and Sakuretsu Armor). “I set one card facedown (Dragon’s Rage) and end my turn”
Toshiro drew his next card. (Eternal Dread) “I’ll activate Clock Tower Prison!” after a brief moment, the field changed to a courtyard with a Big Ben look-alike behind them. “I now set one card facedown (Eternal Dread) and end my turn.”
Sean drew his next card (Magical Scientist), therefore adding a Time Counter to Clock Tower Prison) “Blue Eyes, attack Dasher! White Lightning Attack!”
“Why?!” Toshiro exclaimed. “Nothing will happen!!”
Sean smirked. “Go Trap Card: Dragon’s Rage! With this, my dragon can deal damage through Defense!”
The majestic dragon unleashed a torrent of white lightning at Dasher. He weathered the storm, but Toshiro took the brunt of the attack, which slowed him down a bit.
Toshiro – 1200 Sean – 1700
Toshiro drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed to Draw two more cards. (Destiny Hero Diamond Dude and Mystical Space Typhoon) I now activate Mystical Space Typhoon on my D-Shield!” A gust of wind tore through Toshiro’s side of the field and blew apart Dasher’s wall. “I now switch my Dasher to ATK mode!” Dash then rose to his feet. “Next, I’ll summon Destiny Hero Diamond Dude to the field! (1400 ATK)” In a flash of light, the green clothed hero with diamonds sticking out of his body appeared. “Now I’ll use his ability and send the top card of my deck to the graveyard and if it’s a Normal Spell Card, I can activate it free of charge next turn. Now, I’ll activate the ability of my Dasher once more! I sacrifice Diamond Dude to increase Dasher’s ATK to 3100! Now Dasher, take down his Dragon! Speed Spin Kick!”
Dasher ran towards the Blue Eyes, kicking it in the head and making it explode.
Toshiro – 1200 Sean – 1600
“I now set one card facedown (D-Counter) and end my turn, and my Dasher switches to DEF mode as a result.” As the facedown card disappeared, Dasher once again knelt and protected his face with his arms.
Sean drew his next card. (Monster Reborn) “I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Blue Eyes White Dragon! (3000 ATK)” In a flash, the blue-white dragon reappeared. “Now my monster, destroy Dasher and finish this! White Lightning Attack!”
The monstrous dragon unleashed a torrent of white lightning at the prone form of the hero…
“Trap Activate!” Toshiro shouted. “Go Eternal Dread! With this card, I can add two time counters to my Clock Tower Prison, giving me a total of four! This mean I don’t take any battle damage. Also, I activate D-Counter! This trap card destroys your Dragon since you attacked Dasher!”
Dasher leapt into the eye of the storm and kicked the dragon once more, destroying it right when the Clock Tower Prison struck midnight.
Sean smirked. “Impressive move Toshiro. You definitely have improved.”
Toshiro said nothing; he just applied more speed so he caught up with Sean.
Sean continued, “But I’m not done! I summon Magical Scientist in DEF mode! (300 DEF)” in a flash, the creepy scientist with black glasses appeared. “Next, I’ll set one card facedown (Sakuretsu Armor) and end my turn.”
Toshiro drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate the ability of the Spell Card I discarded with Diamond Dude! Go, Magical Stone Excavation! Normally, I’d have to discard two cards in my hand to reuse a Spell Card, but since it was sent to the grave via Diamond Dude, I can choose a Spell Card in my grave and add to my hand. Now, I’ll activate that card: Pot of Greed! Now I can draw two cards. (Destiny Hero Malicious and Negate Attack) Next, I’ll activate Graceful Charity to draw three cards (Destiny Hero Plasma, Polymerization, and Destiny Hero Blade Master) and discard two (Malicious and Blade Master). Now, I’ll switch Dasher to ATK mode!” Dasher stood up, slightly tense. “Now Dasher, attack Magical Scientist!”
“Hold it!” Sean snapped. “Activate Sakuretsu Armor! This will destroy your Dasher!”
Dasher neared the scientist, leg drawn back in preparation for a kick. Suddenly, a purple aura surrounded him and then he exploded.
Toshiro looked at his hand. “I set one card facedown (Negate Attack) and end my turn.”
Sean drew his next card. (Forced Creation) “I activate Forced Creation! With this card, I can draw five cards, but if I don’t perform a Fusion Summon this turn, I will take 500 damage for every card in my hand at the end of my turn. (Spell Canceller, Burial from a Different Dimension, Dragon’s Mirror, Fusion Tech Support, and All Out Attacks) Now, I activate the ability of my Magical Scientist! By paying 1000 LP, I can Special Summon my St. Joan! (2800 ATK)” In a flash, the women with gold and white armor and a diamond sword appeared.
Toshiro – 1200 Sean – 600
“Now, I sacrifice my Magical Scientist to summon Spell Canceller! (1800 ATK)” In a flash, the metallic cylinder with the red orb in the center and claws attached to the sides appeared. “With him on the field, all your Spells are worthless! Now I activate the Spell Card Dragon’s Mirror! I remove Tempest, St. Joan, and Blue Eyes from the game to summon “GOLD EYES STORM DRAGON!!! (4500 ATK)”
The three Fusion monsters disappeared in the vortex. What emerged was a majestic creature. It had gold eyes and purple, blue and yellow scales. A diamond horn came out of its head, like it would a unicorn.
Toshiro stared up at the monster in awe. Gold Eyes…
Sean stared laughing maniacally. “GOLD EYES STORM DRAGON, FINISH THIS!!! REVERBERATING DIVINE STORM STREAM!!!”
The large dragon reared its head and unleashed gold and purple flames at the prone figure on the motorbike…
“Trap Card Go!” Toshiro shouted. “Negate Attack stops your attack and ends the battle phase!”
The large purple shield erupted between the two players and absorbed the flames.
Sean smirked. “I set one card facedown (All Out Attacks) and end my turn. Go, you persistent b******.”
Toshiro rolled his eyes. “If you have nothing intelligent to say, say nothing at all.” He retorted, drawing his next card. (Card of Demise) “I activate Card of Demise! This card lets me draw five cards, but after five turns have passed I must discard my hand. (Negate Attack, Waboku, Mirror Force, Elemental Hero Stratos, and Destiny Draw). I now summon Elemental Hero Stratos in DEF mode! (300 DEF)” In a flash of light, the hero with light blue armor, a light blue helmet plus a visor, and metallic wings appeared, his arms crossed in front of his face. “Now his ability activates and I can add Destiny Hero Dogma to my hand! Next, I remove the Malicious in my graveyard from the game to summon another one to the field in DEF mode!” In another flash, the hero with demon-like horns appeared. “I then set three cards facedown (Negate Attack, Waboku, Mirror Force) and end my turn.”
Sean drew his next card. (Emergency Provisions) “I activate Burial from the Different Dimension to return Blue Eyes White Dragon, St. Joan, and Tempest to my graveyard. Now I activate the ability to my Dragon! I remove Tempest from the game to destroy all your facedown cards!”
A heavy wind ripped through Toshiro’s side of the field, and his three facedowns exploded.
Toshiro grinned. “Now you can’t attack with your dragon”
Sean smirked. “I activate All Out Attacks! This Trap makes all Special Summoned monsters attack every turn!”
Toshiro gaped at him. He found a way around it’s ability!
Sean laughed. “Spell Canceller and Gold Eyes Storm Dragon, destroy his two monsters!”
The dragon unleashed another blast of flame while Spell Canceller fired a burst of green energy from its orb. Both monsters exploded.
Toshiro grimly drew his next card…and smiled. “Game Over.”
Sean stared back at him incredulously. “How?”
“Go Polymerization!” Toshiro cried out. “I fuse Destiny Heroes Plasma and Dogma together to form my new trump card: DESTINY END DRAGOON!! (3000 ATK)”
The new fusion was quite a sight. I had Plasma’s blood-red wings, a sword arm, and dragon head in its spare arm, another dragon head coming out of his chest…it was essentially Dogma wearing Plasma’s armor.
“I now activate the ability of my monster!” Toshiro called out, pulling up alongside Sean. “I can destroy your Dragon, and make you take damage equal to its ATK!”
Sean paled. “But then…”
Toshiro sped ahead and threw his bike into a skid, pointing at his enemy. “DRAGOON, FINISH THIS!!”
The fusion Hero leapt at Gold Eyes Storm Dragon and decapitated it. The head fell on top of Sean, jerking him to a stop. His D-Wheel was smoking and his terminal was flashing “Defeat”.
Toshiro – 1200 Sean – 0
Toshiro stopped and approached Sean. He held his hand out. “My deck” he said.
Sean glared at him and reluctantly handed it back to its rightful owner. Toshiro looked at his cards, overjoyed at having them back.
“Henry”
Toshiro fought down the anger building inside him and looked at Sean. “What?”
Sean was still glaring. “My friends will hear about this. They’ll get you back.”
Toshiro snorted and walked back to his bike. “Tell them…” he said, putting on his helmet.
“I’ll be waiting”
