Episode 59: “Burying the Past, Part 1”
“So that’s that then?” asked Greg
Greg, Violet, Sophia, Scar, Alexis, Jaden (who had came the night before), Johan, Mars, Chazz, and Tyranno were standing on the roof of Duelist Academy. The leaders of Team Evolution had just finished explaining what went on during the last few days.
“Yep, everything is back to normal” Sophia said, who was standing next to a 17 year old boy named Kai, the newest member of the group.
“Yeah” Greg replied distractedly, his mind on a pretty 16 year old girl that was standing next to him…
“Not quite” Jaden cut in.
That got his attention. “What?” Greg asked.
Jaden sighed. “Listen Greg, this is a noble goal and all, but you keep putting the lives of you and your friends in danger. Also, you education needs completing as well”
“And this comes from the person who slept through the majority of his classes and saved the world three times” Greg shot back. “Besides, what I’m doing is a way better learning experience than listening to Crowler all day long.”
Jaden didn’t crack a smile. “All the same, I guess there’s only one way to settle this…Greg, I challenge you to a duel! You win, you and the others can continue your quest. If you lose, you complete your education.”
Greg couldn’t answer: his heart had pretty much stopped…Of all the people in this world, JADEN YUKI is telling me to forgo my destiny and to go back to school?!
Jaden had reached the other end of the roof. He activated his duel disk, drew his opening hand plus one (Mirror Gate, Hero Signal, Card Trooper, Sparkman, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Pot of Greed), and began to play. “I summon my Card Trooper in DEF mode! (400 DEF) I then set two cards facedown (Mirror Gate and Hero Signal) and call it a turn.”
Greg had finally regained his ability to speak. “Please Jay…don’t make me do this…”
Jaden glared. “Its your turn Greg”
“FINE!” Greg yelled. He slammed his deck in, activated his duel disk, and drew his opening hand. (Avian, Burstinatrix, Polymerization, Change of Heart, and Hero Barrier)
Jaden – 8000 Greg - 8000
“Draw! (Pot of Greed) I activate Polymerization! I fuse Avian and Burstinatrix together to form Elemental Hero Phoenix Enforcer! (2100 ATK) Phoenix Enforcer, attack Card Trooper with Justice Slash!”
“Hold it!” Jaden called out. “Activate Mirror Gate! This switches the control of the two monsters doing battle around, so I get Phoenix Enforcer and you get Card Trooper! And since my Trooper was destroyed, I get to draw a card (Fake Hero) and then I activate Hero Signal to bring out Sparkman! (1600 ATK)
Greg scowled. “I end my turn”
Jaden drew his next card. (Burstinatrix) “I summon Elemental Hero Burstinatrix in ATK mode! (1200 ATK) I then activate Fake Hero to bring out Elemental Hero Bladedge in ATK mode! (2600 ATK) NOW MY MONSTERS, ATTACK GREG DIRECTLY!”
All four Heroes jumped into the air and dive-bombed Greg, making him cry out and get knocked to the ground.
Jaden – 8000 Greg – 500
Greg rose shakily to his feet and drew his card. (Sparkman) “I activate Pot of Greed so I can draw two cards. (Hero Courage and Polymerization) I now activate Change of Heart to back my Phoenix Enforcer! I now summoned Elemental Hero Sparkman to the field. But he won’t stay long because I activate Polymerization! I fuse my two monsters together to form Elemental Hero Shining Phoenix Enforcer! (2500 ATK) And since he gains 300 ATK for every hero in my grave, he has 3700 ATK! I now activate Hero Courage! This Spell Card allows one of my Heroes to attack every single monster on your side of the field. Shining Phoenix Enforcer, attack!”
Three times did the Hero’s claws slash. Three times did a monster explode.
Jaden – 2300 Greg – 500
Jaden drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity! I can now draw three cards (Necroshade, Skyscraper, Hero Kid) and discard two (Necroshade and Hero Kid). I now activate Pot of Greed so I can draw two more cards (Heated Heart and Bladedge). I now use the effect of my Necroshade to summon my Elemental Hero Bladedge without tribute! (2600 ATK) I now activate Skyscraper! Whenever a Hero attacks a monster that’s stronger than it, the Hero gains 1000 ATK! Now as you know, Bladedge is still weaker, but not after I activate Heated Heart! For one turn, one of my Heroes gains an extra 500 ATK, raising Bladedge’s ATK to 3100. Now attack! Slice and Dice Attack! And since your monster is stronger, Bladedge gains 1000 ATK! (4100 ATK)”
Greg grinned. “Shining Phoenix Enforcer cannot be destroyed in battle!”
Jaden grinned. “But I can hit your LP!”
Jaden – 2300 Greg – 100
Greg shakily drew his next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity! This lets me draw three cards (Miracle Fusion, Clayman, and Burstinatrix) and discard two (Clayman and Burstinatrix). I now activate Miracle Fusion! I remove Clayman and Burstinatrix from play to summon Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster in DEF mode! (2500 DEF) Thanks to his ability, Rampart Blaster can deal 1000 damage to your LP! Rampart Blaster, use Rampart Barrage! Shining Phoenix Enforcer, destroy Bladedge!”
Jaden – 200 Greg – 100
Greg grinned. “What are you going to do Jaden? You’re outnumbered and outgunned. It’s all over.”
Jaden drew his next card without comment. (Search Party) “I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy my Skyscraper. I now activate Search Party! By discard my Sparkman I can select one monster in my deck and summon it to the field so rise Neo-Spacian Dark Panther! And thanks to his ability, he becomes a copy of one monster on the field, and I choose Rampart Blaster. And when I say copy, that includes abilities and stats! Dark Panther, Rampart Barrage and finish this duel!”
“Oh no!” Violet cried.
“Not again!” Sophia groaned.
“It’s over Greg!” Jaden called out. The group of missiles were still speeding towards Greg and they didn’t show any signs of stopping…
