Episode 57: “Blast from the Past, Part 1”
Anubis stared in amazement. There was no way on this Earth that the Pharaoh Atem could have materialized in front of him. Atem had moved on! He was in the afterlife!
Atem noticed this and smiled. “Surprised?”
Anubis found his voice at last. “How did you come back?”
Atem shrugged. “You’d be amazed at what three pure souls could do to a person”
Anubis’ mouth dropped open. This was too much.
Atem eyed the open mouth with the expression of someone who was plainly trying not to erupt in laughter. “You might want to close that. Sand doesn’t really taste that good you know”
Anubis snapped his mouth shut and glared at his smart-mouthing rival. “What do you want?”
“To set things right” A golden duel disk appeared on Atem’s left arm with a deck already in it. “I’ll finish the duel in Team Evolution’s place with the same Life Points and creatures that they had, but with my deck. You’ll have your Life Points and your Exodios. We each draw a new hand but I go first. Deal?”
Anubis’ eyes narrowed. “Let’s Duel”
Anubis – 1100 Atem – 1000
Anubis and Atem drew five cards. Atem had The First Sarcophagus, Negate Attack, Egyptian Spell Ritual, Dark Magician, and Seasonal Floods. Anubis had Archfiend Soldier, Mad Dog of Darkness, Dark Hole, Army of Undead, and Vampire Lord.
Atem drew his first card. (Card Destruction) “I activate my Spell Card Seasonal Floods! This Spell card allows me to draw an extra card whenever I draw cards and I gain 500 LP for every extra card I draw.”
“There must be a catch” Anubis mused.
“Of course there is. Just like the floods, if the water gets to high, you die. So if I get over 8000 LP at any point in time during this duel, I automatically lose the game. I activate The First Sarcophagus! Each turn from now on I can take a Sarcophagus card from my deck or hand and then activate it. When all three of those cards are on the field, I can send them to the grave to summon a monster. I now set two cards facedown (Negate Attack and Egyptian Spell Ritual) and activate Card Destruction! We each discard our hands and draw cards equal to the number we discarded. (Atem: Black Plague and Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4. Anubis: Mystical Space Typhoon, Call of the Haunted, Sacred Offering, Flames of Banishment, and Grave Deal) And since I drew an extra card I gain 500 LP!”
Anubis – 1100 Atem – 1500
“I then switch Fulgurant Dragon, Guardian Angel Joan, and Elemental Hero Earth to DEF mode and end my turn” Atem finished.
Anubis drew his next card. (Lost Treasures) “I now activate my Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your Sarcophagus!”
“Sorry, I activate my Egyptian Spell Ritual Trap Card! This negates your Spell, removes it from play, and lets me summon a Spellcaster-type monster from my hand, deck, or graveyard! So rise my Dark Magician! (2500 ATK)”
Anubis snarled. “Fine. I now activate Lost Treasures! This Spell Card allows me to draw an extra card whenever I draw a Spell Card. I now activate Sacred Offerings! I pay half my LP…”
Anubis – 550 Atem – 1500
“So I can summon three monsters three turns from now. I’ll follow that up with my Flames of Banishment! Whenever a monster is sent to the grave, I can summon a Hell Zombie token to the field. By the way, since I have 5 Normal Monsters in the grave, Exodios has 5000 ATK! EXODIOS, OBLITERATION ATTACK!”
Exodios cupped his hands together and a golden fireball appeared between them. With an almighty roar, the energy was unleashed and, in a few seconds, had crashed into the Dark Magician, causing a mighty explosion…
But, suddenly, the attack went away, leaving Atem and his monsters still standing, and a Trap activated on the field.
Anubis scowled. “Negate Attack?”
Atem gave a small smile. “Negate Attack”
Anubis’ scowl grew deeper. “Fine. I set two cards facedown (Call of the Haunted and Grave Deal) and end my turn.”
Atem began his turn. (Life-Giving Oasis and Level Up) “Firstly, thanks to Seasonal Floods, I gain 500 LP!”
Anubis – 550 Atem – 2000
“Next, I activate Life-Giving Oasis! The Spell Card allows me to search my deck for a card whenever a monster is destroyed. Fortunately, this doesn’t count as drawing a card, so Seasonal Floods won’t kick in. I now activate Black Plague! This card destroys all monsters on the field and the controllers of those monsters take 200 points of damage for every monster destroyed!”
Anubis – 350 Atem – 1200
“And since five monsters were sent to the grave, I can search my deck for five Spell Cards and add them to my hand! (Monster Reborn, Phoenix Fire, Flames of Rebirth, Pot of Greed, and Pot of Avarice)”
Anubis grinned. “And thanks to my Flames of Banishment, I get 5 Hell Zombies in DEF Mode. (500/500 x5)”
Atem shrugged. “Anyway, I now summon my Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4! I now activate Level Up! This lets me make my Dragon grow to Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6! (2300 ATK) I now activate Monster Reborn to bring back my Dark Magician! (2500 ATK) Now my monsters, destroy his two tokens!”
Anubis grinned has two of his tokens were destroyed. “My Hell Zombies have an extra ability. When their destroyed in battle, their destroyer takes 500 damage! And since you destroyed two, you take 1000 damage!”
Anubis – 350 Atem – 200
Atem panted heavily as the fires receded. “This isn’t the end Anubis!”
Anubis grinned. “It’s my turn, and you are at your last 200 points! Face it Pharaoh, you’ve lost! The world is mine!”
