Episode 9: Face off: “Greg vs. Sophia, Part 3”
Greg stared grimly at Sophia. He was at the Critias Purple arena, dueling his cousin for the second time in the space of one week. On the sidelines watching the proceedings was his girlfriend, Violet. Greg had just finished telling Sophia that he could defeat her 40000 ATK Ultimate Dragon Rider on his next turn. But he had only two cards left in his deck! If he didn’t draw the right card on his next turn…
Sophia drew her next card. (Shadow Spell) This was the last Spell/trap card she could put face down. If Greg didn’t win on his turn, she would attack and finish the duel. “I’ll put my draw card face down”
Greg closed his eyes while he drew his card. If he didn’t get the card he needed…
When he opened them, He saw that he had the card he needed to win! “I’ll put one card face down”
Sophia didn’t even bother looking at her draw card. “UTIMATE DRAGON RIDER! ATTACK HIS PERFORMANCE OF THE SWORD AND FINISH THIS DUEL!”
‘Sorry Sophia!” Greg called out. “You just activated my Draining Shield! Your attack is negated and I gain 40000 LP!”
Sophia – 4350 Greg – 41000
“I’ll discard my final card of my deck to activate Thunder Giant’s effect! Say good-bye to your Dragon! All of my Monsters attack your LP directly!
Sophia – 0 Greg – 41000
“NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Sophia screamed. “HOW COULD YOU! HOW COULD YOU DEFEAT THE MOST POWERFUL DRAGON OF ALL TIME?!”
“For the same reason I won!” Greg replied. “I had the heart of the cards by my side!”
Sophia smiled. “Good duel. I guess that goes to show me that you should never underestimate your opponent.”
“You were magnificent Greg!” violet squealed as she gave Greg a hug that could have crushed a rock. Meanwhile, Sophia mimicked throwing up all over her cards.
Greg noticed the gesture, and with one look, Sophia stopped. “I guess there is one thing left to do.” He said with a lopsided smile.
“What’s that?’ Violet asked.
“Go back to the dorm and relax.” Greg answered.
“I’m there!” and a moment later, Violet had disappeared.
Greg walked over to his cousin. “What is it?’ he asked.
“I want you to have these cards.” Sophia held out here hand. In it were four cards: Dark Magician, buster Blader, Dark Paladin, and Mage Power. “I have doubles of all these cards. And I also think that you deserve something for beating me again.” Sophia finished with a lopsided smile on her face.
“Thanks” Greg said as he took the cards. “These could provide some pretty good back up once in awhile.”
“How about we go now?’ Sophia asked.
“You go. I want to check something first.”
Greg looked around the arena. He knew someone was here, but he didn’t know were. But he did know who the person was. “Come out Seto Kaiba! I know you’re there!”
“Well. That was an interesting duel.’ Kaiba said as he walked out of the shadows. “So I guess you’re the second best duelist here.”
‘Second best?’ Greg asked. “I’m the best duelist! I fight for my friends, and they will always stand by me!”
“Even now?” Kaiba sneered as his duel disk snapped into place.
“Yes-“Greg began, but then he heard Violet and Sophia coming.
“Bye” Kaiba than smashed into Greg as he ran outside.
Outside, Violet had seen Kaiba and had told Sophia to get security. While she went, Violet snapped her duel disk into place and put her deck in. But when she got their, the only found Greg sitting up groggily. “Are you alright?’ Violet asked as she helped him up. “I saw Kaiba running out of the arena and Sophia-“
“Is here with the security” Sophia finished as she came into the room with security. “What happened/’
“It looked like he got kayoed by Kaiba” Violet answered. Then she noticed that Greg was holding a piece of paper. “What’s that?”
Greg held it up. “It’s a challenge.”
Violet and Sophia looked at it. It read:
Sophia and Greg
We challenge you to a duel. Together, we will find out who is the best duelist in school. The duel will take place next week in this arena.
Zane and Kaiba
Violet looked at Greg. “What should we do?’
Greg took a deep breath. “There’s only one thing we can do…”
Greg’s determined eyes looked up at them. “…we accept the challenge and duel”
