Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens

Episode 4: “King of Critias”

            “Hey, wake up!”

Greg jerked upward. It was 8:00 in the morning. Standing before him was his cousin Sophia.

“Sorry” Greg mumbled. ‘I’m just exhausted after that duel yesterday. It took a lot out of me. Not to mention that Crowler tried to frame us for cheating shortly after class.”

Sophia nodded. Yesterday, they had dueled their teacher Dr. Crowler in front of the whole class and Jaden Yuki, the principal of Duel Academy! Crowler, who was a BIG sore loser, had tried to convince Jaden that they were cheating, but Jaden didn’t hear any of it.

“I just hate being popular” Greg explained as they head to their Combo Class. “Everybody started to swoon over me after I beat you in a duel the other day and now that I-I mean-we beat Crowler-Hey, watch it!”

A kid dressed in purple collided into Greg and disappeared around the corner. Violet, one of Greg’s friends, ran up to help.

“Anything wrong?” she asked, concerned.

“Nothing broken-Hey, look at this!” Greg bent down and picked up a sheet of paper. It said:

Dear Greg,

Meet me at the Critias purple dueling arena at free period today. I will show you that I am the best duelist in the entire school…my Machines will see to that.

Zane

Greg, Sophia, and Violet exchanged glances. Zane was another member of Critias Purple and was arguably the best duelist in school, second to only Seto Kaiba, who was another student in Critias Purple.

“This is bad Greg” Violet whispered. Rumors had been flying that Violet had a very, very soft spot for the up-and-coming duelist, but it seemed as if neither of them could rack up the nerve to say anything.

‘I know, but I have to try to beat him.” Answered Greg, “Let’s hurry, we’ll be late for class!”

Later that day, Greg, Violet, and Sophia approached the dueling arena. Little did they know, however, that they were being followed by Jaden Yuki. The three friends entered the arena, and Greg climbed up. He looked across the arena to see Zane staring back at him.

“Are you ready?’ Zane asked with a sneer.

‘Yes. Let’s DUEL!”

Zane – 8000     Greg – 8000

Greg and Zane both drew 5 cards. Greg had an exceptional hand: He got Dimension Fusion, Polymerization, Elemental Hero Clayman, Elemental hero Burstinatrix, and United We Stand.

Zane, however, had the best hand: He had Cyber-Stein, Cyber Dragon, Power Bond, X, and Z. He had enough to perform the dreaded Cyber-Stein Combo.

“Greg, you go first!”

Greg drew his card, it turned out to be Scapegoat! “All right. I’ll play Elemental Hero Clayman in DEF mode. (800/2000) I’ll also put 2 cards (Dimension Fusion and Scapegoat) face down. Go!”

Zane drew his card. It was another Cyber Dragon “I’ll play Cyber-Stein in ATK mode. I now play 5000 LP in order to summon CYBER END DRAGON! (4000 ATK with trample) CYBER END DRAGON, ATTACK CLAYMAN CYBER LIGHTING!

Zane – 3000     Greg – 6000

Greg gasped. He had heard of the dreaded Cyber-Stein combo, but he had never seen it in action before! He drew his next card, which turned out to be Elemental Hero Sparkman. “I’ll discard E-hero Sparkman to draw one more card.’ The new card turned out to be Miracle Fusion! “I’ll play Miracle Fusion! I remove Clayman and Sparkman from play to summon ELEMENTAL HERO THUNDER GAINT! (2500/1500)”

“You fool; nothing can stand up to my Cyber End Dragon!” Zane called out as he drew his card. “I’ll play Poison of the Old Man to increase my Life Points by 1000. I now attack your Thunder Giant. Go!”

Zane – 4000     Greg – 4500

Greg was starting to get worried, he needed a trick fast! He drew his Elemental Hero Avian. ‘I’ll discard my Elemental Hero Burstinatrix to draw one more card” That card turned out to be his last Miracle fusion! “I play Miracle Fusion! I remove Avian and Burstinatrix from play to summon Elemental Hero Flame Wingman! (2100/1200) I now activate Scapegoat, which gives me 4 sheep tokens! I also equip United We Stand to Flame Wingman, giving him stats of 6100/5200! FLAME WINGMAN, ATTACK CYBER END DRAGON WITH BURNING TORNADO!

Zane – 1900     Greg – 4500

Zane was smiling as he drew his Smashing Ground. “Since I have no monsters on the Field, I can Special Summon Cyber Dragon (2100/1600) from my hand. I also play Smashing Ground, which says good-bye to your Flame wingman! Cyber dragon attacks one of your Sheep Tokens. Go!”

Zane – 1900     Greg – 2400

Greg drew his next card, which turned out to be his other Elemental Hero Avian. “I’ll discard Avian to draw another card.” That card turned out to be his Waboku. “I’ll set one card face-down.”

Zane drew his next card, which was his last Poison of the Old Man. “I’ll sacrifice my Cyber-Stein so can play another Cyber Dragon in Attack mode. I play Poison of the old man to boost my Life points by 1000. One of my Cyber Dragons attacks your scapegoat. Go!”

Zane – 2900     Greg – 300

Greg looked at his deck, he needed something good… He drew Elemental hero Bubbleman. “I’ll discard the card I just drew in order to draw one more card.” The card he drew was his last Miracle Fusion! “I activate my Spell card Dimension Fusion! I Special Summon Avian, Sparkman, and Burstinatrix. (800/1200) I also play my Miracle Fusion. I remove Avian, Bubbleman, and Sparkman from play so I can summon ELEMENTAL HERO TEMPEST! (2800/2800) I put a counter on Burstinatrix. As long as Tempest is in play, Burstinatrix cannot be destroyed! TEMPEST, ATTACK CYBER DRAGON WITH THUNDERBUBBLE TORNADO!”

Zane – 2200     Greg – 300

Zane smiled as he drew his next card. It turned out to be his Metoerain card. “I put one card face-down. Cyber Dragon1 Attack his Scapegoat and Finish this duel!”

“Sorry Zane! I activate Waboku! No damage is dealt!”

Greg drew his card. It turned out to be his Axe of Despair. “I’ll equip Axe of Despair to my E-Hero Tempest, thus increasing his attack to 3800! TEMPEST, ATTACK HIS CYBER DRAGON! BURSTINATRIX, ATTACK HIM DIRECLY!”

Zane – 0           Greg – 300

“NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN’T WIN! I AM THE BEST DUELIST AROUND HERE! I HAVE THE BETTER DECK!

“Zane, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose. The only thing that matters is that you have fun” Greg replied to Zane’s outburst. Then he picked up his cards and walked towards his friends.

“Greg! Oh, you were magnificent!” Violet explained as she darted forward. She gave him a hug, but she drew back quickly, embarrassed. Sophia sighed. “Violet, just say it.”

“But Greg” Sophia added. “You were FANTASTIC! I don’t think Yugi could have done better. But there is one thing nagging me: Where did you get that third Miracle Fusion?’

“Greg smiled. “I had a feeling that this match would be hard, so I took out one of my Axe of Despairs so I could add another Miracle Fusion.”

“And besides, its time for bed.” Greg added.

“All right” Sophia sighed. “Good night everybody.”

“I guess that leaves you and me.” Violet said shyly.

“Violet, how about we take a little moonlit walk?’ Greg suggested, taking her hand.

“Sure”

Greg and Violet then had a romantic night together, and when the two of them went to bed, they good still feel their good-bye kiss…

CRASH!

Suddenly, Greg jerked awake. He heard a girl calling his name. “Sophia, wake up! We’ve got a problem in Violet’s room!”

Greg and Sophia charged through the door only to find Violet gone with two notes in her place. The first one said:

Dear Greg,

I want to thank you for our moonlit stroll. It was the most fun I had in a life time. I really like you. How about we go on a date tomorrow?

Love,

Violet

The second one said:

Greg,

I have your girlfriend. She is safe for the moment. If you want to see her again, give me your Legacy of heart card. If you don’t Violet will be a permanent guest here in the virtual World.

Noah

Sophia saw tears steam down Greg’s cheek. Then he saw his face boil with hatred.

I’m so glad I am not Noah, She thought. Because it looks like Greg is stepping into the dark side…

The end of the episode.
