Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens Episode 3: “Teacher Troubles”
Greg looked at his deck one last time. He needed to make sure everything was in place. Today was his first day at Duelist Academy and he wanted to be prepared. He also needed to be prepared to answer a long list of questions. Everybody in the school saw his victory over his cousin Sophia yesterday and Greg didn’t think that anybody would forget it very quickly. Even the school’s principal, Jaden Yuki, recognized his potential and he even gave him a card: Dimension Fusion. Another way that showed Jaden’s belief in him was the fact that the principal put Greg in the Critias Purple dorm. Suddenly, there was a knock at his door. “Come in” called Greg. A girl with long, brown hair stuck her face into the room. It was Greg’s friend Violet. She was also in Critias Purple and had been one of Greg’s first friends. “Are you ready? Classes are about to start!” Greg jumped up, grabbed his Duel Disk, put his main deck in it, put his fusion deck in his pocket, and dashed out of the room, dragging Violet behind him. ‘What are we waiting for, let’s go!” Out in corridor, everyone was talking at once when they saw Greg. Violet assumed that Greg loved this, but when she glanced at him, he was looking stressed. Then his face lit up. “I’ll meet you at the courtyard.” Greg said. Violet was about to say something when Greg disappeared. She walked on, wondering where Greg ran off to. Greg, meanwhile, was taking one of the side passages he had found the previous day. Coincidentally, this passage leads right to the courtyard, which was where his first class was being held. It was his Dueling Class and it was headed by Dr. Crowler, the best teacher in school who seemed to hate Sophia, Greg, and Jaden all at once! So I’d better not be late, Greg thought grimly. But he shouldn’t have worried. When Greg got there, the only one there was Sophia! “Good morning!” called Greg. Sophia tried to look upset, but she had a twinkle in her eye that said that she was proud of him. “Did you take the side passage?” “Why should you be asking me that?” Greg quipped. “After all, it appears you took it as well!” Sophia smiled. “Point” Suddenly, they heard the unmistakable voice of Dr. Crowler behind them. “Good morning students. I Trust that you slept well?” Greg spun around so quickly that that Sophia didn’t even have time to blink. Crowler was wearing that sneer his that meant that he was thinking of a way to expel the two of them. Greg’s patience boiled over. “Why do hate us? We haven’t done anything to you!” “Oh, but you have. You see, Jaden speaks highly of you, meaning that you get praise but I don’t” “Is that all you care about?” Sophia stepped forward. “Do you want praise? We’ll give it!” “All right.” Crowler said. “Let’s duel. You lose; you’re kicked out of the Academy!” “We accept” the cousins said together.
Crowler – 8000 Greg – 8000 Sophia – 8000
Greg, Sophia, and Crowler drew 5 cards. Greg would have whooped for joy: He had Miracle Fusion, Mask of Restrict, Mask of the Accursed, Elemental Hero Avian, and United We Stand! Sophia also had a brilliant hand: She had Divine Dragon, Lord of D., Flute of Summoning Dragon, and 2 Blue Eyes White Dragons! Crowler, however, had the best hand of all. He had Ancient Gear Golem, Power Bond, Waboku, Cyber Dragon, and Cost Down! His draw card, which was Goblin Elite Attack Force, would help me next turn, Crowler thought. “All right, stand back!” said Crowler. “I play Cost Down, which lowers my Cyber Dragon (2100/1600) to Level 3 so I can summon it without Tributes!” It was now Sophia’s turn. “I summon Lord of D. in ATK mode (1200/1100). This means that as long as Lord of D. is in play, you cannot target any of my Dragons with effects, Spells, or Traps! I also play Flute of Summoning Dragon, allowing me to Special Summon 2 Blue Eyes White Dragons! (3000/2500)” Greg drew his card, which turned out to be his Elemental Hero Burstinatrix. He smiled. If he got Polymerization on his next draw, he would show Sophia a new fusion. “I play Elemental Hero Avian in ATK mode. (1000/1000) I’ll also play two other cards: Mask of Restrict and Mask of the Accursed. Accursed is attached to your Cyber Dragon, meaning that it cannot attack and you take 500 damage to your LP every Standby phase, and Restrict means you cannot Tribute!” Crowler drew his next card with confidence, and he was rewarded with Steamroid. “I’ll play Goblin Elite Attack Force. (2200/1500) I’ll attack your Avian and my monster is switched to DEF mode. Go Sophia!”
Crowler – 7500 Greg – 6800 Sophia – 8000
Sophia drew her next card and it was Dragon’s Rage, giving all her dragons the Trample ability. “I play the Trap card Dragon’s Rage, which gives my Blue Eyes the trample ability. Now Blues Eyes, attack his fiend with White Lightning Attack!
Crowler –6000 Greg – 6800 Sophia – 8000
Greg drew his next card, which turned out to be Dimension Fusion. I have all the pieces needed, Greg thought. “I’ll discard my Elemental Hero Burstinatrix to draw one more card.” That card turned out to be Polymerization. “I’ll now play the Spell card known as Miracle Fusion, which lets me remove Avian and Burstinatrix from play so I can summon ELEMENTAL HERO FLAME WINGMAN! (2100/1200) I’ll also put one card face down.” Crowler was still pretty cocky, and for good reason: He just drew Gyroid, meaning that on his next turn, he could summon Steam Gyroid with Power Bond. “I’ll play Steamroid in ATK mode. (1800/1800) I’ll attack Sophia’s Lord of D and during the damage step, Steamroid’s attack becomes 2300. Go!”
Crowler – 5500 Greg – 6800 Sophia – 6900
Sophia drew her next card. It turned out to be another Lord of D. “I’ll play Divine Dragon in ATK mode. (1500/1000)” Greg drew his next card and did a little internal celebration dance: It was his Elemental Hero Sparkman! “I’ll play Elemental Hero Sparkman in ATK mode. I’ll then play Polymerization to Fusion Summon ELEMENTAL HERO SHINING FLARE WINGMAN! (2500/2100) And since it gets an extra 300 ATK for every E-Hero in my Graveyard, it has 3100/2100 since I have two heroes in my graveyard. WINGMAN, ATTACK STEAMROID WITH THUNDERFORCE STRIKE! “You fool!” Crowler said gleefully. “I play Waboku meaning that your attack is meaningless!” Crowler then drew his card and it turned out to be his Queen’s Knight. “I’ll play my Gyroid in ATK mode! I’ll also play Power Bond. I’ll send my Steamroid and Gyroid to the graveyard so I can Fusion Summon Steam Gyroid! (2200/1600) Steam Gyroid’s ATK is doubled because of power bond, giving it 4400 ATK until the end of my turn. STEAM GYROID, ATTACK BLUE EYES! (Note: Crowler takes 2200 damage due to Power Bond)
Crowler - 2800 Greg – 6800 Sophia – 5500
Sophia drew her card, which turned out to be Polymerization. She also noticed that the other students had arrived and were watching Crowler getting licked. Greg noticed it too, but he didn’t say anything. “I’ll play Lord of D. in ATK mode. I’ll now use Polymerization to Fusion Summon LORD DRAGUN! (2300/1100) Now my dragon, Attack!
Crowler – 2700 Greg – 6800 Sophia – 5500
Crowler drew his card: Harpies Feather Duster! “I’ll play Harpie’s Feather Duster! Say good to all your Spell and Trap cards! I’ll also play my Queen’s Knight. Then I’ll sacrifice my two monsters to bring out ANCIENT GEAR GOLEM! (3000/3000) Now my beast, attack King Dragun RIGHT NOW!”
Crowler – 2200 Greg – 6800 Sophia – 4800
Sophia drew her card, which turned out to be her Ring of Destruction. “I activate RING OF DESTRUCTION! ANCIENT GEAR GOLEM IS DESTROYED AND YOU LOSE CROWLER!”
Crowler – 0 Greg – 3800 Sophia – 1800
As Crowler stood in shock as the gathered students cheered, another voice boomed over the crowd. “That’s the ticket!” Greg looked and saw Violet standing in amazement and Jaden standing there looking impressed. The two cousins smiled at each other: That was the way at Duel Academy: You bring your Game On!
