Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens

Episode 7: “Face Off: Greg vs. Sophia, Part 1”

Greg was taking an afternoon stroll on Saturday. One week, he thought. I have survived a whole week.

Surviving was true. In one short week, he had fought his cousin Sophia in a duel that let him enroll at the Academy, received a card from the principal of Duel Academy, landed himself in Critias Purple, partnered with Sophia and dueled Dr. Crowler, who was one of their teachers, defeated one of the best duelists in school, seen his girlfriend Violet abducted, fought a virtual genius to save his girlfriend, sent Sophia off on an errand that wound her in the Shadow Realm fighting Marik, and completed all of his homework on time! Talk about pressure!

“Hey!” someone called from behind him.

Greg almost had the wind knocked out of him as Violet gave him a hug. “How’re you?” she asked. “You looked like you did a million things wrong this week.”

Greg smiled. Violet could read his emotions quicker than a frog eating a fly. “I’m fine. I’m just tired after this week.”

‘I don’t blame you. This must’ve been hard for you...”

“You don’t need to list everything that has happened this week. I’ve already done that.”

Violet laughed. “Oh! That reminds me. Sophia wants to see you at the Critias Purple dueling arena right away.”

“Okay.” Greg said. “Let’s go together.”

A little while later at the arena, Greg and Sophia started talking:

“We made it through the first week.” Sophia said.

“Yeah. Some more than others” Greg reminded her.

            “Do you know something?”

            “What?”

“I think the best way to see how’ve we’ve progressed is by a duel!” Sophia said as her duel disk, with her deck already inserted in its slot, snapped into place.

“You’re on!” Greg said his duel disk snapped into place and as he put his deck in.

Sophia – 8000              Greg – 8000

Greg and Sophia drew their cards. One thing Sophia didn’t know is that Greg had made some temporary changes in his deck: He had added some of the cards that Violet had gave him and some other tricks. Greg’s hand was very good: he had Dimension Fusion, Miracle Fusion, Polymerization, Archlord Zerato, and Warrior of Zera. Sophia’s hand was also pretty good: She had Dragon Treasure, Lord of D., Flute of Summoning Dragon, Divine Dragon, and Buster Blader. Sophia went first. Sophia’s draw card, Blue Eyes White Dragon, could be played now, but she decided against it. “I’ll summon Lord of D. in ATK mode. (1200/1100) “

Greg’s draw card, The Sanctuary in the Sky, would really prove useful. ‘I’ll play 2 cards: the first being a Warrior of Zera (1600/1600) and the second being a field spell card known as The Sanctuary in the Sky. This card lets me take zero damage when I lose a Fairy type monster. I’ll also set 1 card face-down. (Dimensional Fusion) My monster attacks you monster.”

Sophia – 7600              Greg – 8000

Sophia was frowning was she drew her card. (Dragon’s Mirror) She hadn’t known that Greg had added cards to his deck! “I’ll summon my Divine Dragon in ATK mode. (1500/1000)”

Greg smiled when he saw that his draw card was his Elemental Hero Avian. “I summon Elemental Hero Avian in ATK mode (1000/1000) I’ll tribute my Warrior of Zera to Special Summon my Archlord Zerato! (2800/2300) I’ll set another card face down. (Miracle Fusion) Go!”

Sophia drew her next card, which turned out to be her Lord of D. “I summon Lord of D. I’ll also play a Flute of summoning Dragon to Special Summon BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON! (3000/2500) Attack his Archlord Zerato now!

Greg frowned. His best non-fusion monster had been destroyed. But his face lit up when he saw that he had drew his Elemental Hero Burstinatrix. “I summon Elemental Hero Burstinatrix! I’ll use Polymerization to Fusion summon my ELEMENTAL HERO FLAME WINGMAN! (2100/1200) ATTACK HER DIVINE DRAGON NOW! And thanks to Flame Wingman’s effect, you take LP damage equal to Divine Dragon’s attack as well as the normal LP damage

Sophia – 5500              Greg – 8000

Sophia was starting to lose her cool. I think it is time to go all out, she though as she drew her card (Divine Dragon) “I’ll play Divine Dragon in ATK mode. (1500/1000) BLUE EYES! ATTACK HIS FLAME WINGMAN WITH WHITE LIGHTING ATTACK!

Sophia – 5500              Greg – 7100

Greg had a plan ready when he drew his next card. (E-Hero Sparkman) “I’ll play Elemental Hero Sparkman in ATK mode. I’ll also activate the Spell card Miracle Fusion! I remove Flame Wingman and Sparkman from play so I can summon ELEMENTAL HERO SHINING FLARE WINGMAN! (2500/2100) And since it gets an extra 300 ATK points for every E-Hero in my graveyard, it has 3100 ATK! ATTACK HER MONSTER WITH THUNDERFORCE STRIKE!

Sophia – 5400              Greg – 7100

Sophia drew her card. (Kaiser Sea Horse) this could prove useful, Sophia thought. If I get a Blue Eyes on my next draw… “I play Kaiser Sea Horse in ATK mode! (1650/1700)”

Greg smiled as he drew his United We Stand. “I’ll set one card face-down.”

Sophia would have danced for joy! Her draw card was a Blue Eyes White Dragon! “I’ll sacrifice my Kaiser (which counts as 2 tribute monsters was to tribute it for a Light monster) to summon BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON! (3000/2500) I’ll also equip it with Dragon Treasure, therefore giving it enough power to take out your hero! (Blue Eyes now has 3300 ATK) BLUE EYES ATTACK NOW!”

Sophia – 5400              Greg – 6900

Greg frowned as he drew his next card. (Clayman) The only thing that can win the game right now would be Valkyrion or Performance… “I’ll play Elemental Hero Clayman in DEF mode. (800/2000)”

Sophia smiled when she saw that her draw card was Dragon’s Rage. ‘I’ll play Dragon’s Rage, Therefore giving all my Dragons the trample ability! Blue Eyes attacks your Clayman!”

Sophia – 5400              Greg – 5600

Greg then drew his Elemental Hero Burstinatrix. “I’ll play Elemental Hero Burstinatrix in ATK Mode. (1200/800))”

Sophia then got her most favorite card in a situation like this: Monster Reborn! “I’ll play Monster Reborn to bring back my BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON! My Boosted Blue Eyes Attacks your Burstinatrix!”

Sophia – 5400              Greg – 3500

Greg then drew his come-back king card: Miracle Fusion! “I’ll play Miracle Fusion! I’ll remove Burstinatrix and Clayman from play to play my E-Hero Rampart Blaster! (2000/2500) Rampart Blaster deals 1000 damage to you due to its effect!

Sophia – 4400              Greg – 3500

Sophia then drew her THIRD Blue eyes! “I’ll sacrifice my Lord of D. and my Divine Dragon to my a THIRD Blue Eyes! My new dragon attacks your Rampart Blaster!

Sophia – 4400              Greg – 3000

Greg looked at his draw card. (Commencement Dance) ‘I’ll put one card face down.”

Sophia then became cautious as she drew her next card. (Flute of Summoning Dragon) Whenever Greg put something face down, it usually meant something bad. “I’ll put one card face down as well. (Dragon’s Mirror)”

Greg looked at his draw. (The Forgiving Maiden) It can come in handy right now, Greg thought. ”I’ll play the Forgiving Maiden in DEF mode. (850/2000)

Sophia looked her draw card. (Black Luster Ritual) It wasn’t entirely useful at the moment, but it would be soon. “I’ll put my draw card dace down”

Greg then looked at his draw card, praying that it was another basic monster…which it was! It was his second Warrior of Zera. “I’ll play warrior of Zera in ATK mode. (1600/1600)”

Sophia then drew her card. (Black Luster Soldier) I could play this card right now, she thought, but then I can’t play my Ultimate beast… “I will put one card face-down (Flute of Summoning Dragon).”

Just then, Greg drew his powerhouse card: Performance of the Sword! “I activate Commencement Dance! I’ll sacrifice my two monsters to Ritual Summon my Performance of the Sword!”

“Greg, you have seem to forgotten that your monster only has 1950 ATK! I can flatten it in a second!”

“Perhaps, but if the Heart of the Cards is with me, my next draw will blow you away!”

What does Greg mean by that? Will his lowly Performance of the Sword defeat THREE Blue Eyes White Dragons? Find out next time!
