Episode 49: “Enter the Shadows, Part 2”
Greg stared across the shadowy dome at Yang, his dark version of himself. Greg looked at his duel disk: he had 2000 LP and Bubbleman and Clayman in DEF mode. Yang had the three Sacred Beasts—Ravel, Hamon, and Uria—on the field and all of them had 4000 ATK or more. Furthermore, Yang had 7300 LP.
Greg looked at his deck and squeezed his eyes shut. There’s no way I can pull this out! Yang’s just too good. Violet was right, I can’t protect people from everything.
I guess this is goodbye then world. I guess…
You guess wrongly if you think you’re going to throw in the towel.
Greg opened his eyes and saw…”Dad” Greg breathed.
Dartz smiled. “Don’t give up Greg”
“But Dad, I don’t have anything left to fight with!”
Dartz looked at his son seriously. “Your next card will change everything. Take your card and win this duel!” With that, Dartz disappeared.
Greg took a deep breath and looked at the top card of his deck. Heart of the cards don’t fail me now! He then drew his card. (Negate Attack) “I set one card facedown and end my turn”
Yang drew his next card. (Phantasmal Martyrs) “I activate Phantasmal Martyrs! This gives me three Fiend tokens with 1000 ATK each! I then sacrifice them to activate the ability of Ravel: he gains ATK points equal to the ATK points of the monsters I sacrificed until the end of turn! (7000 ATK)”
“No way!” Greg called out.
“Yes way! Now Uria and Hamon, destroy his defenses! Ravel, attack him directly and destroy him!”
“I activate my facedown card!” Greg announced. “Negate Attack! This will stop all your attacks and ends your turn!”
Greg then drew his next card. (Pot of Avarice) “I activate Pot of Avarice! I get to return the monsters in my graveyard to my deck and shuffle it, and then draw two cards! (Future Fusion and Miracle Fusion) I then activate Future Fusion! I send Avian and Burstinatrix from my deck to the graveyard so I can summon Flame Wingman in two turns. I now activate Miracle Fusion! I remove Clayman, Bubbleman, Avian, and Burstinatrix from play to summon Elemental Hero Electrum! (2900 ATK) And thanks to his ability, I can return all the monsters that I have removed from play and shuffle them into my deck. He also gets an extra 300 ATK points for every monster on you side of the field that shares an Attribute with this card. And since he’s all of them, he gains 900 ATK points! (3800 ATK) And don’t forget my Skyscraper, which will increase it’s ATK by 1000 when he attacks one of your Sacred Beasts (4800 ATK). NOW ELECTRUM, ATTACK RAVEL WITH ELEMENTAL STORM! (Electrum: 3500 ATK)”
Greg – 2000 Yang – 6800
Yang drew his next card. (Sacred Revival) “I activate Sacred Revival! At the cost of half my LP and my battle phase I can choose one Sacred Beast card in my graveyard and return it to the field. So come back, Ravel, Lord of Phantasms!”
Greg – 2000 Yang – 3400
Greg drew his next card. When he looked at it, he gasped. He had drawn…“LEGACY OF HEART!” Greg roared as he slammed the card on his duel disk.
Gray clouds gathered at the top of the shadow dome. Three bolts of colored lightning—green, purple, and orange—struck Electrum. The monster roared and imploded, his holographic pixels scattering across the ground. Then, suddenly, they stopped in mid-fall. They started to glow and started rising, forming three outlines. In a flash of light three knights stood on the field: Critias, Timeaus, and Hermos.
Greg glowered at his enemy. “These knights will be your end Yang!”
Yang laughed loudly. “What, those things? My beasts will crush them!”
Greg smirked. “We’ll see”
“My move!” Yang announced as he drew his next card. (Sacred Power) “I activate Sacred Power! This increases the ATK power of my Sacred Beasts by 4000 points for every other Sacred Beast in play…permanently. (Ravel: 12000, Hamon: 12000, Uria: 12000) NOW MY BEASTS DESTROY HIS KNIGHTS!”
The three Sacred Beasts unleashed fire, lightning, and shadow upon the three knights. In response, they lifted their swords and crossed them, creating a barrier that sent the attacks bouncing into the dome’s “walls”. Then the knights glowed with energy and their ATK rose to 12000!
“What happened?!” Yang screamed.
Greg laughed. “My knights can negate any attack when they are together. And they absorb the ATK of the monsters that tried to ATK them!”
Greg flipped over his next card without looking at it. “I now play the Continuous Spell Card Order of the Knights! Since Critias, Hermos, and Timeaus are all on the field and in their knight form, I can allow them to share their power with each other, but I can only attack with one a monster a turn. NOW CRITIAS, ATTACK AND DESTROY RAVEL, LORD OF PHANTASMS!”
Critias nodded once and leaped into the air. Timeaus and Hermos bowed their heads and started glowing with energy. That energy poured into Critias, making his ATK 36000. Crackling with electricity, Critias plunged his sword into Ravel’s head. The Sacred Beast roared and flung the knight off and the ATKs of the knights returned to normal
Yang smirked. “My Sacred Power has another ability: My Sacred Beasts cannot be destroyed as long as its in the graveyard! And now” he announced as he flipped the top card off his deck, “I activate Sacred Alter of Power! By sacrificing Hamon and Uria, I can increase the ATK of Ravel equal to the ATK of the monsters I sacrificed! (Ravel: 36000 ATK) RAVEL, ATTACK AND DESTROY CRITIAS!”
Ravel unleashed shadow energy at the knight once again. Once again, the three knights crossed their blades and the shadow energy bounced off it and sent it into the middle of the “arena”, and raising Critias’ ATK to 48000.
Greg smiled as he drew his last card. His face was scratched and bleeding. His shirt was torn in many places. His pants and no leggings from the knees down and there was a deep cut across his right leg. But there was the light of determination in his eyes the glowed brightly in the darkness. “I activate Soul Release! I can remove up to 5 cards from your graveyard from play, but I just need to do one, so goodbye Sacred Power!”
“NO!” Yang cried. “I HAVE TO WIN!”
“NOW CRITIAS, DESTROY RAVEL, LORD OF PHANTASMS!”
Critias leapt into the air again, his sword sparking with electricity. He slammed it into Ravel’s head again. The beast roared and toppled over. It lay still for a few moments, and then it exploded. Greg was slammed backward by the force of the shockwave, through the shadowy barrier, and into a tree. The last thought he had before he lost consciousness was, I won…
