Episode 49: “Enter the Shadows, Part 1”
You can’t protect me from everything, Greg
Greg was dashing through the forest of Duelist Academy, tears streaming down his face. Hs mind was repeating what Violet said to him over and over again. He tried to push them away, put they rolled ceaselessly on. He had run non-stop through the night and it was now about noon, but still he kept running.
It’s no use, Greg thought. That fight in Battle City made us distrust each other and that affected our relationship. Now look at me, running to find power. WHAT AM I DOING?!?!
Greg skidded to a halt, tripped over a root, and fell on his face. A deep chuckle sounded behind him.
“What you’re doing is following your path” a voice said.
As Greg struggled to his feet, a figure strode out of the shadows. Blackness streamed off of him and his eyes were blood-red. He had a sneer on his face and a black duel disk on his left arm. But what chilled Greg the most that this guy looked almost exactly like him!
“Who are you?” Greg asked.
The figure laughed. “You don’t recognize me Greg? I…am…YOU!” With a snap of his fingers, the boy covered the area in darkness. “Welcome to the Shadow Realm”
Greg activated his duel disk. “What do you want?”
The boy sighed. “First, let me introduce myself. I am Yang, a being that contains all of your anger, darkness, etc. Second, I want a duel. You win, and you leave. I win, and I get your body!”
Greg thought about it for a minute. The consequences for losing were enormous, but he had no choice. “Fine” he snarled. “Let’s Duel!”
Greg – 8000 Yang – 8000
The two duelists drew their opening hands. Greg had Avian, Sparkman, Bubbleman, Polymerization, and De-Fusion. Yang had several dark-looking cards without names on them.
“Guests first!” Greg called and drew his card. (Hero Signal) “I activate Polymerization! I fuse Avian, Sparkman, and Bubbleman together to summon Elemental Hero Tempest! (2800 ATK) I then set one card facedown (Hero Signal) and end my turn.”
Yang drew his next card. “I activate Assembling the Traps! This allows me to take three Continuous Trap cards in my deck and set them on the field facedown. I then sacrifice them to summon this: URIA, LORD OF SEARING FLAMES! (0/0) My Sacred Beast gains an extra 1000 ATK points for every Continuous Trap Card in my graveyard. (3000 ATK) Now I activate the Continuous Trap Haunted House! Now I can get a Continuous Trap every turn instead of conducting my normal Draw Phase. By the way, Uria was a Special Summon, so I summon Elemental Villain Hellfire! (1500 ATK) I now activate the Spell Card Sacred Fusion! I remove Hellfire and Uria from play to summon this: HELLFIRE, LORD OF THE FLAMES! It gains 1000 ATK points for every Continuous Trap in my graveyard and I add Elemental Villain Hellfire’s ATK points to it! (4500/0) HELLFIRE, ATTACK TEMPEST NOW!”
“Hold on!” Greg called. “I activate De-Fusion! This splits my Tempest back into its separate parts and since your attack target is gone, your attack fails!”
Yang growled and motioned for Greg to go.
Greg drew his card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This let’s me draw two more cards. (Skyscraper and United We Stand) I now activate Skyscraper! This gives my Heroes an extra 1000 ATK points whenever they attack a more powerful monster. I now activate United We Stand! I equip it to Sparkman to increase its ATK by 2400! SPARKMAN, DESTROY LORD OF THE FLAMES WITH STATIC SHOCKWAVE! (Sparkman: 5000 ATK due to Skyscraper) AVIAN AND BUBBLEMAN, ATTACK YANG DIRECTLY!”
Yang grinned. “Uria, counterattack!” As the two heroes dove for Yang, the Sacred Beast appeared and incinerated Bubbleman, halting Avian’s attack.
“What happened?!” Greg asked as Avian came back down.
“Lord of the Flame’s special ability” Yang explained. “Whenever he’s destroyed by a monster I can Special Summon Uria from anywhere. (Uria: 3000 ATK, Sparkman: 3200 ATK)”
Greg – 5800 Yang – 7500
Yang then searched his deck for a Trap thanks to Haunted House. (Final Attack Orders) “Uria, attack Avian now!”
“I activate Hero Signal!” Greg called. “Since you destroyed a monster I can bring out another Hero so introducing Elemental Hero Clayman in DEF mode! (2000 DEF) (Sparkman: 3200 ATK)”
Greg -2800 Yang – 7500
Greg drew his next card. (Clay Charge) “I set my draw card facedown. Sparkman, attack Uria with Static Shockwave!”
Greg – 2800 Yang – 7300
Yang drew his next card. (Book of Spells) “I activate Book of Spells! This lets me take 3 Continuous Spells in deck and set them on the field facedown. I then discard my Final Attack Orders to bring back Uria, Lord of Searing Flames! (4000 ATK) Uria, attack Sparkman with Searing Flames!”
Greg – 2000 Yang – 7300
Greg drew his next card. (Negate Attack) “I set my draw card facedown and end my turn”
Yang drew his next card. (Hamon) “I sacrifice my three facedown Continuous Spells to summon the second Sacred Beast: HAMON, LORD OF STRIKING THUNDER! (4000/4000) NOW MY BEASTS, ATTACK NOW AND FINISH HIM OFF!”
“Activate Negate Attack! Your attack is over and your turn ends!”
Greg drew his next card. (Bubbleman) “I summon Bubbleman in DEF mode and end my turn. (1200 DEF)”
Yang drew his next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards. (Ravel and Phantasmal Martyrs) I now activate Phantasmal Martyrs! This let’s me summon three Fiend Tokens to the field! I now sacrifice them to summon the ultimate Sacred Beast: RAVEL, LORD OF PHANTASMS!”
As the gigantic blue monster took its place with his brothers, Yang grinned evilly. “Face it Greg, you can’t defeat me. Your body is mine!”
