Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of Heavens

Episode 48: “Cyber Girl”

Greg looked up at the clear blue sky. A few days before he had heard that his friend Alexis Rhodes would be coming over to help them with the situation at Duelist Academy. He had come to wait for her boat.

Suddenly he heard footsteps on the dock. Whirling around he saw his girlfriend Violet walking towards him. Smiling he waited until she drew closer to pull her into a hug.

After breaking apart Greg asked “What are you doing here?”

Violet shrugged. “I just thought you might want some company”

They stood in silence for a moment until Violet said “Thanks for sticking up for me the other day.”

“No problem” A few days before, a boy named Tyranno Hassleberry had started making fun of Violet. Greg had intervened, lost his cool, and Sophia had dueled Tyranno to make him apologize. Later, Greg got his revenge by wiping the floor with Tyranno in a duel.

“You didn’t really have to do that” Violet continued.

“Why not?”

“I can take care of myself”

“Violet, please not this subject…”

“I didn’t mean it like that!” Violet said nervously. Both of them remembered the big fight they had just after Battle City. It was the only time they had refused to be together. There was still some leftover tension from that fiasco. “I just mean that I really appreciate your caring, but I’d like some breathing room, you know. You can’t protect me from everything, Greg.”

Greg was about to reply when a horn blasted in the distance. Turning towards the water Greg spotted a ferry coming in. “Here she comes”

About 5 minutes later, the boat had docked and Alexis was walking down the plank with her head down. Greg and Violet ran to forward.

“Hi Alexis!” Greg called. That drew a reaction. Alexis looked up, and when Greg saw her bloodshot, tearstained eyes, Greg realized something was wrong.

What now?” Greg wondered.

“And that’s why I came, to get away.” Alexis finished, sniffing. She had just recounted a horrible fight between her and her now ex-boyfriend Jaden Yuki, Chancellor of Duelist Academy.

“That doesn’t sound like Jaden” Greg said.

“Yeah, he cares about you more than anything!” Violet put in.

“But what if it wasn’t Jaden?” Sophia asked.

The trio turned to her. “What do you mean?” Alexis asked.

“Jaden has been possessed once. Who’s to say I didn’t happen again?” Sophia said.

“She has a point” Violet said.

“I agree it’s a possibility” Greg replied. “But I don’t think its what happened. I didn’t sense any Shadow Magic around Alexis. If she’s been next to Jaden a lot, and if he’s been taken over by someone or something with Shadow Powers, then Alexis here would have a type of residue on her. The only residue I feel is the one of anger and sadness”

“How about we sleep on it for a while?” Sophia suggested.

“Yeah, maybe an answer will come to us in the morning” Violet agreed.

Late that night, Greg was tossing and turning, thinking over what Violet had said earlier that day. Mulling them over, to try and find their meaning.

You can’t protect me from everything, Greg

Greg sat up and got dressed, taking his duel disk out of his bag.

You can’t protect me from everything, Greg

He attached the machine to his arm and put his deck in. He then grabbed a card from his collection and walked out of his tent.

You can’t protect me

He walked to Violet’s tent. He hesitated for a second, and then he slipped a card under her tent flaps and into her “room”

You can’t

Eyes blazing with tears, he turned and dashed into the dark forest.

The next morning…

“SOPHIA!!!” Violet screamed as she dashed across the allied encampment. “GREG’S GONE!!”

Sophia stuck her head out, along with everyone else. “Greg’s gone?” they asked at the same time.

Violet just nodded. She was out of breath and she had tears streaming down her face. “I…found….this ….card….in….my tent.” She panted, holding up the card Greg had slipped into her tent the night before. Sophia took a good look at it. It was called Tyuratin. It was a Fairy-type monster with 2800 ATK points, 2500 DEF points, and its effect could make it come out on your opponent’s turn and shut down his whole deck if the player guessed right.

“So?” Johan said. “It’s just a card. It could be gift”

“YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!!” Violet yelled, causing the boy to cower. After taking a deep breath, she continued. “Greg never gets me rare cards like this unless he’s going to do something stupid. Like…”

“Running away?” Mars finished.

Violet nodded.

Johan clapped his hands together. “Okay then, the apprentices will look in the forest. He couldn’t have gotten far.”

Just as Johan was about to walk away, Chazz grabbed the back of his shirt. “Hold up kid. It could be a trap”

“What kind of trap? Mars asked.

“Set by the Shadow Riders. Duh?!” Chazz snapped.

Alexis stepped forward. “You mean…Greg’s gone?”

Violet nodded. “My boyfriend, and our greatest duelist, is gone”

Alexis sighed. “I guess I’ll never tell him now…”

“Tell him what?” Sophia asked.

“How I feel…”

Tyranno grinned. He smelled a fight coming. All it needed was a little push. “How do you feel?”

“I love him” Alexis said with a dreamy look in her eyes.

The camp grew deathly silent. Sophia and Chazz’s mouths dropped open. Johan fainted. Mars just stared. Tyranno was grinning like a kid in a candy store.

And Violet was giving her fellow duelist a death glare.

“What…did…you…say?” Violet asked.

“I love him” Alexis said, confused. “Are you going deaf or something?”

SMACK!

Alexis fell to the ground, clutching her face where a red handprint was steadily appearing. Violet was standing over her, lowering her arm.

“To answer your question, no. But I think you’ve lost your mind. Haven’t you forgotten he’s my boyfriend?”

“Have you forgotten that you two had a fight?” Alexis retorted, climbing to her feet.

“Violet, stop. You’re just—” Rose tried to finish, but was quickly shouted down by the irate teenage girl.

“NO I WON’T BACK DOWN! HE’S MINE, AND NO ONE CAN TAKE HIM AWAY FROM ME! I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL! SURE, I MIGHT HAVE TOLD HIM TO BACK OFF IN DOMINO! BUT WE GOT BACK TOGETHER DIDN’T WE?! OKAY, MAYBE I DID TELL HIM THAT…he…couldn’t…” Suddenly Violet burst into tears. “I know why he left now! I’m such an IDIOT! I told him that he couldn’t protect me from everything, and must’ve misunderstood me and thought I meant he was weak!”

Alexis smirked. “See? You don’t deserve him. You always seem to hurt him in some way.”

“SHUT UP!” Violet shrieked.

By now, everyone was looking nervous, especially Tyranno. Violet’s temper was legendary, and when she got beyond reason, bad stuff happened.

“How about this?” Alexis suggested. “A duel. You win, you keep Greg. You lose, and he’s mine!”

“Deal!” Violet yelled, activating her duel disk and slamming her deck in. “Prepare to be wiped out!”

“Violet, I think the only wiping that will be going around her will be your wiping your nose!” Alexis shot back, activating her disk and putting her prized Cyber Angel deck in it.

Violet – 8000               Alexis – 8000

The two duelists drew five cards. Violet got Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, Shinato, Shining Angel, Solar Ray, and Negate Attack. Alexis got Cyber Tutu, Hallowed Life Barrier, Astral Barrier, Sinister Serpent, and Negate Attack.

“I’ll go first!” Alexis announced and drew her card. (Blade Skater) “I summon Cyber Tutu in ATK mode! (1000 ATK) I then set two cards facedown (Astral Barrier and Hallowed Life Barrier) and end my turn.”

Violet drew her next card. (Monster Reborn) “I summon Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands in DEF mode, using its ability to bring Shinato’s Ark to my hand!”

Just like when she dueled me, Mars thought.

“I then activate Shinato’s Ark! I sacrifice my Manju and my Shining Angel to summon Shinato, King of the Higher Plain! (3300 ATK) Now, attack her Cyber Tutu now!”

“I think you forgot something Violet!” Alexis called out. “I activate my facedown Astral Barrier! Now all attacks to my monsters become direct attacks to my Life Points!”

“Has Alexis gone crazy?!” Johan exclaimed.

“No, just smart” Chazz replied. “Watch”

Violet shrugged. “Fine by me. Shinato, attack her Life Points directly!”

“Hold on! I activate my second facedown: Hallowed Life Barrier! By discarding my Sinister Serpent, I can make all damage dealt to me 0!”

“And since Sinister Serpent goes back to your hand whenever it’s discarded…”Violet trailed off.

“I’ve caught you in a lock!” Alexis finished triumphantly.

Blast, Violet thought. This maybe harder than I thought!

“My draw!” Alexis yelled as she drew a card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This let’s me draw two cards. (Etoile Cyber and Polymerization) I then activate Polymerization! I fuse Etoile Cyber and Blade Skater together to summon my favorite monster: Cyber Blader! (2100 ATK) Now Cyber Tutu, attack Violet directly!”

“WHAT?!?!” Violet yelled as the monster spun around and kicked her in the stomach.

Violet – 7000               Alexis – 8000

“How come it attacked directly?” Violet asked.

“Simple” Alexis replied. “Her ability says that when all monsters on your side of the field have a higher attack than she does, it can attack you directly!”

Violet growled and drew her next card. (Scapegoat) “I set two cards facedown (Scapegoat and Negate Attack), switch Shinato to DEF (3000 DEF) and end my turn.”

Alexis drew her next card. (Cyber Gymnast) “I summon Cyber Gymnast in DEF mode! (1800 DEF) and end my turn”

Violet drew her next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards. (Heavy Storm and Tyuratin) I switch Shinato to ATK mode and attack!”

“And I’ll just discard Sinister Serpent to negate the damage” Alexis smiled as she drew her card and as her Serpent came back to her hand. (Cyber Prima) “I’ll then discard my Serpent again to activate my Gymnast’s special ability and destroy your only monster! Now I sacrifice it to summon Cyber Prima! (2300 ATK) Now my monsters, attack Violet directly!”

“I activate Scapegoat!” Violet shouted. Right before the attack hit, four colorful goats popped up in DEF mode. Three of them were destroyed by the attacks.

Violet smiled. “And thanks for that attack, for when you destroy two or more monsters in battle, I can special summon this: TYURATIN! (2800 ATK) And when it comes into play, I can choose a creature type. All monsters of that creature type are destroyed and no one can summon a monster wit the selected type!”

“That means…” Alexis gasped, taken aback.

“That I can destroy all your Warriors! Tyuratin, purge the field!”

Tyuratin unleashed a blinding flash of light that blew apart all of Alexis’ monsters.

Violet smiled. “Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about your walls. I now activate Heavy Storm! This will destroy all Spells And Traps on the field. TYURATIN, ATTACK ALEXIS’ LIFE POINTS DIRECTLY WITH BRIGHT LIGHT ATTACK!”

Violet – 7000               Alexis – 5200

Alexis drew her next card. (Warrior Returning Alive) “I end my turn”

Violet drew her next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity! This lets me draw three cards (Airknight Parshath, Shining Angel, and Sanctuary in the Sky) and discard two. (Parshath and Shining Angel) I then activate Monster Reborn to bring back Airknight Parshath in ATK mode! (1900 ATK) And whenever he deals battle damage to a player, I can draw a card. I then activate Sanctuary in the Sky for later. Now my monsters, attack Alexis directly! (Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin)

Violet – 7000               Alexis – 500

Violet smirked as she continued. “Since it’s my second Main Phase, I sacrifice my Airknight Parshath to summon my ultimate monster: NEO-PARSHATH, THE SKY PALADIN! (2300 ATK)”

Alexis shook as she drew her last card. (Negate Attack) “I set one card facedown and end my turn”

Violet drew the final card of the duel: Pot of Avarice. “I activate Pot of Avarice! This lets me take the 5 monsters in my graveyard and add them to my deck, then shuffle my deck, and draw two cards. (Mystical Space Typhoon and Hyper Fairy Fusion) I then activate Hyper Fairy Fusion! I sacrifice my Scapegoat Token and remove Maire the Fallen One and The Forgiving Maiden from play to summon St. Joan! (2800 ATK) And my Hyper Fairy Fusion gives it a special ability: If my Life Points are higher than yours, I can increase St. Joan’s ATK points by the difference! (7300 ATK) Oh, and coincidentally, Neo-Parshath, even thought it wasn’t summoned by Hyper Fairy Fusion, gains ATK points equal to the difference of our Life Points because I have Sanctuary in the Sky in play! (6800 ATK) By the way, I play Mystical Space Typhoon on your last line of defense. NOW MY MONSTERS, ATTACK ALEXIS DIRECTLY AND END THIS DUEL!”

Violet – 7000               Alexis – 0

Alexis struggled to her feet as the holograms wore off. “You passed the test”

“What test?” Violet asked, content that the upstart was put in her place.

“The test me and Jaden designed. After Battle City, we wanted to see if your still loved Greg. Him walking away like that was the perfect way to test it. And you passed!”

Violet took a deliberate step forward. “So…you don’t like Greg?”

Alexis shook her head.

Violet cracked her knuckles. “And…you didn’t break up with Jaden?”

Alexis sweatdropped, took a step back, and shook her head.

“Alexis, you better run” Sophia advised. And that’s what Alexis did.

For the rest of the day, you could see the fugitive duelists watching the interesting chase before them: Alexis running for her life, with Violet screaming death threats behind her.

Just another normal day on Academy Island.
