Episode 39: “The Light of Night”
It was the dead of night in Domino City and not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…
Well, one, two, three, four, five, SIX things were moving towards the Harbor, but that’s unimportant. It’s just Violet, Greg, Sophia, Christy, and Ishizu getting ready to wrap up the semifinals.
“WELCOME DUELISTS TO THE FINAL MATCH OF THE SEMIFINALS! THE WINNER OF THIS MATCH WILL DUEL GREGORY HENRY IN THE BATTLE CITY FINALS! OUR TWO DUELISTS ARE VIOLET JONES AND ISHIZU ISHTAR!”
Greg stood by his girlfriend. “You ready?” he whispered.
Violet turned and smiled. “You bet!”
“Make sure you win, because I REALLY want to duel you!”
Violet laughed and pecked him on the lips. “Quit worrying” she said and then she walked towards the arena.
Ishizu stared at her. “You ready child?’
Violet frowned. “Watch who your calling a child!”
“Fine. May the spirits be with you”
She’s really gone off the deep end, Violet thought. “Alright. Let’s Duel!”
Violet – 8000 Ishizu – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Violet drew Inferno Tempest, Warrior of Zera, Sanctuary in the Sky, Divine Wrath, and Archlord Zerato. Ishizu drew Sanctuary in the Sky, Exchange of the Spirits, Agent of Wisdom-Mercury, Mystical Shine Ball, and Warrior of Zera. According to the rules, Ishizu went first.
Ishizu drew her opening card (Winged Kuriboh). “I set one monster facedown and end my turn”
Violet drew her next card (Graceful Charity) I activate Graceful Charity! I draw three cards (Guardian Angel Joan, Monster Reborn, and Zolga) and discard two cards (Guardian Angel Joan and Zolga) I now activate my Monster Reborn to bring back my Guardian Angel Joan in ATK Mode! (2800 ATK) I now activate my Sanctuary in the Sky and summon my Warrior of Zera in ATK Mode. I then sacrifice it to summon my Archlord Zerato in ATK Mode! (2800 ATK). I now attack your facedown with my Archlord Zerato!”
“Thank you for destroying my Winged Kuriboh. I now take no battle damage for the rest of the turn”
Violet scowled. “Fine. I’ll throw down a facedown (Divine Wrath) and end my turn”
Ishizu drew her next card (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed, which allows me to draw two cards (Winged Kuriboh and Transcendent Wings) I summon my Winged Kuriboh in DEF mode and set one card facedown (Transcendent Wings) and end my turn)
Violet drew her next card (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed and draw two cards due to its effect (Emergency Provisions and Agent of Force-Mars) I now play Emergency Provisions and destroy two Spell/Trap cards to gain 2000 LP. I now summon my Agent of Force-Mars in ATK mode! (0 ATK) And since I have 2000 more LP than you, Mars gets an extra 2000 ATK points! (2000 ATK) Mars, attack her Winged Kuriboh now!”
“I activate my Spell Card Transcendent Wings! I discard my Agent of Wisdom-Mercury and my Mystical Shine Ball and sacrifice my Winged Kuriboh to Special Summon my Winged Kuriboh LV10! I now sacrifice it to activate its special ability! All monsters on your side of the field are destroyed and you take LP damage to the combined total of their ATK points!”
Violet – 2400 Ishizu – 8000
Ishizu drew her next card (Mystical Shine Ball) “I summon Warrior of Zera in ATK mode! (1600 ATK) Zera, attack Violet now with Fairy Blade Slash!”
Violet – 800 Ishizu – 8000
Violet picked herself off the ground with difficulty. Man, I didn’t expect her to be this good! There’s no way I can come back now! I’m too far behind!”
Suddenly a voice shouted “Come Violet! Don’t give up!”
Violet turned and saw Greg smiling at her. Of course! If I give up, I’ll never believe in myself. If I don’t believe, I won’t win!”
Violet drew her next card. (Mirror Force) “I set one card facedown and end my turn”
Ishizu smirked. “You’re giving up so easily?”
Violet smiled back. “Heck no. I’m just getting warmed up!”
“Then your going to love this” Ishizu said as she drew her next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate Graceful Charity, which allows me to draw 3 cards (Blue Eyes White Dragon, Monster Reborn, and Destruction of Destiny) and I discard two cards (Blue Eyes and Sanctuary in the Sky) I then play Monster Reborn to bring back Blue Eyes White Dragon!”
“WHAT?!?!” Violet and Sophia yelled. “WHERE DID SHE GET THAT CARD?!?!”
Ishizu ignored them. “I now sacrifice my Warrior of Zera to Summon my Archlord Zerato in ATK mode! I then play Destruction of Destiny to discard the top 3 cards of my deck (Zolga x3). “I now pay 1000 LP and activate Exchange of the Spirit! The cards in your graveyards are switched with the cards in our decks!”
“WHAT?!?!?!” Violet exclaimed in horror. “But that leaves me with only 9 cards!”
Ishizu smiled. “It’s over Violet. One way or another. NOW ZERATO, ATTACK VIOLET DIRECTLY AND END THIS DUEL!”
“I reveal my facedown Trap! Activate Mirror Force! All your monsters are destroyed!”
Violet – 800 Ishizu – 7000
Violet drew her next card. (Pot of Greed) “I activate my Pot of Greed, which allows me to draw 2 cards (Monster Reborn and Guardian Angel Joan) I now activate Monster Reborn to bring back my Kaiser Sea Horse and I sacrifice it to summon my Guardian Angel Joan in ATK mode! (2800 ATK) JOAN, ATTACK ISHIZU WITH HOLY LIGHT STRIKE!”
Violet – 800 Ishizu – 4200
Ishizu drew her next card. (Zolga) “I set one monster face-down”
Violet drew her next card. (Graceful Charity) “I activate my Graceful Charity, allowing me to draw 3 cards (Warrior of Zera, Emergency Provisions, and Divine Wrath) and discard 2 of them (Divine Wrath and Emergency Provisions) I now summon my Warrior of Zera in ATK mode and I sacrifice it to Special Summon my Archlord Zerato in ATK mode! I then discard my Inferno Tempest to destroy all your monsters on the field, leaving you wide open! NOW MY MONSTERS, ATTACK ISHIZU DIRECTLY!”
Violet – 800 Ishizu – 0
Violet walked over and began to look through her defeated opponent’s deck. She took out the Exchange of the Spirit card and slipped it into her pocket. “Thanks for the duel”
Ishizu smiled. “I predict both a great struggle and an everlasting love in your future”
She’s right on both counts Violet thought. Only one last challenge to overcome.
