Episode 37: “A United Front”
Hi everybody! It’s Violet! Last episode Greg was reunited with his long-long sister and after a pretty quick duel; Greg claimed his spot in the semifinals. Now that leaves me and Sophia. I sense something strange going on here…
“Greg, wait up!” Christy called as she ran after her brother through the streets of Domino City. Christy was Greg’s sister and he had agreed (reluctantly) to let her join Team Evolution. The two of them were now looking for Violet and Sophia to tell them the news.
Greg, who was at least two feet ahead, was pretty much racing down the street with a card in his hand. It wasn’t just any card, it was the card entitled Unity. It had the four original heroes (Yugi, Tristan, Tea, and Joey) on it and it was one of the four Virtue cards of legend. Greg had no use for it so he was going to give it to Violet.
Suddenly Greg saw her in a restaurant drinking a glass of soda. She looked up and waved to attract his attention. Greg raced to Violet’s table with Christy behind him.
“Hi” Greg said breathlessly as he plopped down on the bench next to his girlfriend and asked the waiter for a glass of water. “What have you been up to?”
“Oh nothing” Violet sighed as she sipped her soda. “I got thirsty and decided to stop for a drink since nobody wanted to duel. And who are you?” Violet asked as Christy sat down across from her.
“Christy” was the answer. “I’m Greg’s brother”
“Oh!” Violet exclaimed. “You’ve joined the team as well?”
“Yep”
“Great!” Violet exclaimed just as Sophia enter the restaurant.
“Hey Violet, Greg, Christy” she said as she sat down next to her female cousin. “What’s—“
But that’s as far as she got when suddenly her duel locator began to beep. She looked around until her eyes found Violet’s. Her locator was beeping as well.
The two ladies slowly rose from the table. Sophia grinned “I’ve been looking forward to this”
“Same here” Violet replied. “I’ve always wanted to take on the second-best female duelist at the Academy”
“Second-best!?!?! Who are you calling second-best?!?!”
Greg stepped between the two of them. “Now girls—” he started to say but Christy pulled him back.
“Let them at it. They have to duel each other. It’s part of the rules”
Is it part of the rules to tear me apart?! Greg wanted to scream. Violet doesn’t stand a chance against Sophia. Not without some support at least. Wait, maybe…
Greg was yanked back to reality by Sophia shouting “I challenge you to a duel!”
“Fine by me” Violet retorted as she activated her duel disk.
“Here Violet, let me shuffle your deck” Greg stepped forward and took her deck. Unnoticed by Violet and Sophia, Greg slipped the Unity card into his girlfriend’s deck. I know its technically cheating, but it’s for the best.
As Greg stepped back, Christy whispered “I saw that”
“Saw what?” Greg hissed back, but then the duel began.

Sophia – 8000 Violet – 8000
The two duelists drew their opening hand. Sophia’s hand contained Kaibaman, Blue Eyes White Dragon, Polymerization, Widespread Ruin, and Black Luster Ritual. Violet had a hand consisting of Sanctuary in the Sky, Shining Angel, Absorbing Kid from the Sky, Warrior of Zera, and Draining Shield. According to the rules, Sophia went first.
Sophia drew her first card (Luster Dragon) “I summon Luster Dragon in ATK mode (1900 AYK) and I’ll set one card face-down (Widespread Ruin)”
Violet drew her next card (Emergency Provisions). “I set one monster facedown (Shining Angel). I’ll throw down a facedowns and end my turn (Emergency Provisions)”
Sophia drew her next card (Lord of D.) “I summon Kaibaman and then I sacrifice it to Special Summon Blue Eyes White Dragon (3000 ATK)! Luster Dragon, attack her facedown! Blue Eyes, attack her LP with White Lightning Attack!”
Violet smiled. “Thanks for that! You’ve activated my Shining Angel’s effect! Since it was destroyed in battle, I can pull out another Shining Angel from my deck in DEF mode!”
Sophia gritted her teeth. “Fine. I cancel my second attack and throw down another facedown (Polymerization) and end my turn”
Violet drew her next card (Archlord Zerato) “I activate Sanctuary in the Sky! Now I don’t take battle damage when you destroy one of my Fairies. I then summon Warrior of Zera in ATK mode! I then sacrifice it to Special Summon my Archlord Zerato in ATK mode! (2800 ATK) I’ll also switch my Shining Angel in ATK mode (1400 ATK). I’ll also discard Absorbing Kid from the Sky to activate Zerato’s effect! Now you are completely defenseless! Shining Angel, attack with Dazzling Flash! Zerato, attack with Angelic Sword Strike!”
“Sorry Violet! I activate my Widespread Ruin! Zerato is destroyed!”
Sophia – 6600 Violet – 8000
Sophia drew her next card (Monster Reborn) “I activate Monster Reborn! Blue Eyes White Dragon return to the field! I then summon my Lord of D. in ATK mode! Now my Dragons can’t be touched by your spells or traps!”
Violet drew her next card (Pot of Greed) “I activate Pot of Greed! I get to draw two more cards (Monster Reborn and Graceful Charity). I then activate Graceful Charity! I get to draw three more cards (Future Fusion, Ultimate Offering, and Guardian Angel Joan) but I have to discard two other cards (Ultimate Offering and Guardian Angel Joan). I now activate Future Fusion! I send The Forgiving Maiden and Marie the Fallen One to the Graveyard. I then activate Monster Reborn! Guarding Angel Joan, come to the field (2800 ATK)! Now my Fairy, attack Lord of D. RIGHT NOW!! And since I destroyed your monster, I gain LP equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster!”
Sophia – 5000 Violet – 9600
Sophia grimaced as she picked herself up from the ground. Wow, she thought. Violet’s REALLY updated her deck. I wonder what else she’s got in store!
Sophia drew her next card (White Horned Dragon). “I sacrifice my Blue Eyes White Dragon to summon my White Horned Dragon (2200 ATK)!”
Violet smiled. “In response to your summons I activate my face-down Emergency Provisions. I destroy three of my Spells/Traps to gain 3000 LP!”
Sophia – 5000 Violet – 12600
Sophia smiled in return. “Oh, but your helping me by doing that. Since I summoned White Horned Dragon, I can remove Sanctuary in the Sky, Emergency Provisions, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, and Graceful Charity from play to increase my Dragon’s ATK by 1500 points! (3700 ATK) And since you got rid of your Sanctuary, I can deal some damage! WHITE HORNED DRAGON, DESTROY THAT SHINING ANGEL RIGHT NOW!”
“Don’t forget Sophia, I can summon my last Shining Angel from my deck in DEF mode” Violet reminded her.
Sophia – 5000 Violet – 10300
Violet drew her next card (Inferno Tempest) “I set one card face-down”
Sophia drew her next card (Chaos Emperor Dragon) “I remove Blue Eyes White Dragon and Lord of D from play to summon CHAOS EMPEROR DRAGON! (3000 ATK) WHITE HORNED DRAGON, ATTACK GUARDIAN ANGEL JOAN! CHAOS EMPEROR DRAGON, ATTACK VIOLET DIRECTLY!”
“I reveal my facedown Spell! Activate Inferno Tempest! Since I took over 3000 LP damage in one attack, all monsters in our graveyards and decks are removed from play!”
“WHAT?!?!” Sophia exclaimed incredulously as she watched all her monsters get removed.
Sophia – 5000 Violet – 7300
Violet drew her next card (Reckless Greed). “Its now time to activate to effect of my Future Fusion! St. Joan, rise! I then activate Reckless Greed! I can draw two cards at the cost of my next two Draw Phases (Return from the Different Dimension and Solar Ray) I now activate Return From the Different Dimension! I pay 3650 LP to Special Summon two Hoshiningen, 1 Guardian Angel Joan, and 1 Agent of Wisdom-Mercury! I now activate Solar Ray, which deals 3000 damage to your LP since I have 5 Fairies in play. And thanks to Mercury, I get to draw a card since I have no cards in my hand (Divine Wrath). I set one card facedown. And since I have two Hoshiningens, all my Fairies get an extra 1000 ATK points!”
This can’t be happening! Greg and Sophia thought at the same time.
Sophia – 2000 Violet – 3650
Violet smiled. “It’s over Sophia. NOW SAINT JOAN, ATTACK CHAOS EMPEROR DRAGON WITH HOLY BLADE STRIKE! GUARDIAN ANGEL JOAN, ATTACK WHITE HORNED DRAGON WITH HOLY FLASH! HOSHININGEN, ATTACK SOPHIA DIRECTLY WITH BLINDING STAR WAVE AND FINISH HER OFF!”
Sophia smiled. “I pay 1000 LP to activate Chaos Emperor Dragon’s special ability!”
“Oh no you don’t! I activate my facedown Divine Wrath! Chaos Emperor Dragon’s effect in negated and your Dragon is destroyed!”
Sophia – 900 Violet – 3650
“ST. JOAN, ATTACK SOPHIA DIRECTLY WITH HOLY BLADE STRIKE AND FINISH HER OFF!”
Sophia – 0 Violet – 3650
Sophia smiled as she put away her deck. “Great Duel”
Violet smiled back. “Thanks. You weren’t too shabby yourself”
Sophia took one card out of her deck and flung it at her best friend. “Here. You need this more than I do”
Violet looked at the card. It was called Inferno Reckless Summon. It allowed to user to Special all copies of a card that she Special Summoned to the field. The opponent got to do the same thing. “Why do you think I need this?” she asked her friend.
Sophia shrugged. “I just thought that those blasted Shining Fairies of yours could use a little more speed.”
Violet smiled in reply and walked back to her boyfriend and his sister. Greg, in the meantime, was lost in thought.
I just knew this would happen. I want Violet to win, but I want to win myself! This next round will change everything.
