Episode 35: “Battle of the Gods, Part 3”
Okay, Greg though. This is bad. Sophia has Ra out and I only have Tempest Dragon out to defend me. I need to draw the right card to win this...Greg then drew his card and almost gasp. The card was called Atlantean Dragon Call and the effect is what he needed to win! “I play the Spell Card Atlantean Dragon Call! This Spell card allows me to select one Atlantean Dragon in my deck and one of its compatible fusion mates and fuse them together. I choose Critias and Ring of Destruction and fuse them together to form MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION DRAGON!”
A purple and red ball of energy formed in front of Greg. I stopped after a few minutes to reveal a purple dragon with red Egyptian letters on it.
Greg smiled. “But that’s not all! It has a special ability to go along with it: By sacrificing it, I can destroy one monster on your side of the field. AND THAT INCLUDES EGYPTIAN GODS!”
“NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Sophia cried in Marik’s twisted voice as her last god was destroyed.
“BUT MARIK!” Greg shouted. “YOU’VE FORGOTTEN MY TEMPEST DRAGON! TEMPEST DRAGON, ATTACK MARIK DIRECTLY! AND SINCE MY DRAGON DEALT BATTLE DAMAGE TO YOU, ALL SPELLS AND TRAPS ARE DESTROYED!”
Greg – 1900 Sophia/Marik – 1900
Sophia/Marik drew his next card (Dark Hole) “I must applaud you for your bravery. But you outsmarted me for the last time. I play Dark Hole, destroying your only monster!”
Oh well, Greg thought as his last dragon was destroyed. At least she can’t attack me…
Greg drew his next card (Heavenly Fusion). “I play Heavenly Fusion! I remove Marie the Fallen One and The Forgiving Maiden from play to Fusion Summon Violet’s gift to me: ST. JOAN!” A lady in white and gold armor complete with a sword appeared on the field.
Sophia/Marik grinned. “What do you say to the fact that if you attack me, Sophia will die?”
Greg felt his face turn white. “No…I don’t believe you…”
“Well believe it. What will it be? Death or Defeat?”
“Neither”
“You’ll have to make a choice” Sophia/Marik said as she drew her next card (Double Coston). “I summon Double Coston in DEF mode”
Greg drew his next card and looked at his cousin. “I PLAY LEGACY HEART! COME FORTH MY KNIGHTS! (Three knights appear) GIVE YOUR POWER TO JOAN NOW!” St. Joan was surrounded by a nimbus of orange, green, and purple energy.
Greg glared at Sophia/Marik. “Prepare for your end Marik! NOW ST. JOAN, HARNESS THE ATLANTEAN MAGIC AND SPLIT THAT POSSESSED BODY INTO ITS TWO HALVES!”
St. Joan lowered her sword until it was pointed at Sophia’s heart. The energy that surrounded her flowed up the sword and leapt her target. Sophia/Marik screamed loudly as Marik’s soul was split from Sophia’s body.
Greg glared at Marik’s soul. “It’s now over. ST. JOAN, ATTACK MARIK’S SOUL RIGHT NOW AND ERADICATE IT FROM MY COUSIN’S BODY!”
St. Joan poured more energy at the dark soul floating next to Sophia’s body. The colorful energy started to press on the soul. The screaming grew louder and when it reached its highest pitch, the soul exploded into colorful colors. The explosion blew both duelists backward. As Greg hit the wall head-first, he thought to himself I won. Then his world turned black.

The first thing that hit him when he regained consciousness was that his head hurt. Rubbing his head as he sat up, Greg looked around. He was out in the desert with Sophia next to him. A few seconds later, she awoke too. She turned to him and started to cry. Greg put his arms around her and cradled her.
“I’m…I’m sorry. I never meant to attack you. I tried to resist Marik, but he was too strong” Sophia sobbed into Greg’s shoulder.
“Hey” Greg said, lifting Sophia’s head up to his level. “It’s okay. Besides, the duel was actually fun!” Greg grinned as he finished and Sophia smiled back.
“Now, where the heck are we?” Sophia asked as stood up
“You’re outside the ruins of the tomb of Atem” said a voice behind them said.
Greg and Sophia whirled around to face the speaker. It was a boy about Greg’s age with shoulder length black hair. He was wearing a Duelist Academy purple blazer with blue slacks. Behind him was a girl that looked awfully familiar. She was about Greg’s age, blonde hair, and a nature outfit. “Who are you?” the boy asked.
“I’m Greg and this is my cousin Sophia. We’re members of Team Evolution and we’re looking for the Egyptian God cards.” Greg turned to the girl and smiled and the girl smiled back. “Yes it is me Rose. How are things?”
Rose gave her long-time best friend a hug. When she pulled away, she grinned. “Never been better”
The boy bent down and picked something off the ground. He then handed them to Sophia. “I’m Atticus, by the way. I think these belong to you Sophia.”
Greg and Sophia looked at the items: Obelisk, Slifer, and Ra. “Thank you” Sophia whispered.
Greg looked at the two newcomers. “How would you guys like to come back with us? I’m sure Joe would like to see you Rose and I think Alexis and company would like to see you”
They nodded. “We’re in” Rose said.
Greg smiled. The world was safe once again. Sophia had the Egyptian God Cards. Old friends would return. But little did Greg know that Marik wasn’t defeated and that soon the final struggle would begin.
