Episode 14: “Ultimate Challenge, Part 1”
Greg was walking around his room in the Critias Purple dorm. He was hiding from his fellow students. The day before, he had defeated the King of Games and became the King of Games. The rest of the day had been devoted to dodging students, who kept asking questions. Greg was sick and tired of all this attention. He went as far to complaining to Jaden, who was the Principal of Duelist Academy, but that did not help. So Greg decided to stay in his dorm as much as he could.
Why don’t people leave me alone? Greg thought. Can’t they stop asking questions for a week or two?
Suddenly, the door opened. Greg turned around and saw his cousin Sophia standing in the doorway. “Are you all right?” she asked.
“Yeah” Greg sighed as he plopped on his bed. “I’m just tired of people asking me questions”
“Well” Sophia said as she sank down next to him “this wouldn’t have happened if…”
“If I didn’t beat you in the examination duel. Yeah, I know.”
“Well” said Sophia defensively. “It’s true!”
“I know.”
“But this wasn’t the reason why I am here. Jaden wants to talk with you, me, and Violet.”
“Okay” said Greg as he walked towards his duel disk. “Let’s get going”
The two cousins walked side-by-side down the corridor towards Jaden’s office. Along the way, they met up with Violet. As they walked, they tried to encourage Greg that everything would die down, only to stop as Greg mentioned that the newspapers already decided to interview him.
When they entered Jaden’s office, they were surprised: Jaden wasn’t there. Instead, Dartz was there!
“Dartz! YOU were behind everything!” Greg exclaimed as he and his friends put their duel disks into position. “What do you want?”
“A duel” was the reply.
“Fine” Violet snapped. “We’ll give you one!”
Greg – 8000 Sophia – 8000 Violet – 8000 Dartz – 8000
The four duelists drew five cards. Greg’s hand was pretty good: UFOroid, E-Hero Avian, Hero Barrier, Miracle Fusion, and Polymerization. Violet’s hand was perfect: The Forgiving Maiden, Marie the Fallen One, 2x Warrior of Zera, and Polymerization! Sophia also had a good hand: Lord of D., 2x Flute of Summoning Dragon, and 2x Blue Eyes White Dragon. Dartz had the best hand in the form of 2x Zure, Knight of the Dark World, Sillva, Warlord of the Dark World, Dark World Lightning, and Graceful Charity!
Dartz drew a card. (Pandemonium) “I play Graceful Charity, which allows me to draw three cards (Infernalqueen Archfiend, Sillva, and Terrorking Archfiend) and then discard two cards! (2x Sillva) And since they were discarded, I Special Summon TWO Sillva, Warlord of Dark Worlds (2300/1400) ATK mode! I also summon Zure, Knight of Dark World (1800/1500) ATK mode! I then set one card (Dark World Lightning) face-down”
Greg drew his card. (E-Hero Burstinatrix) “I summon E-Hero Avian in ATK mode! (1000/1000) I then set two cards (Miracle Fusion and Hero Barrier) face-down.”
Sophia drew her card. (Divine Dragon) “I summon Lord of D. in DEF mode. (1200/1100) I then play Flute of Summoning Dragon so I can summon TWO Blue Eyes White Dragons (3000/2500)!”
Violet drew her card. (Sanctuary in the Sky) “I play Polymerization! I fuse Marie the Fallen One and The Forgiving Maiden to summon my St. Joan! (2800/2000) I also play Sanctuary in the Sky, meaning I take zero damage when you destroy one of my Fairies!”
Dartz drew his card. (Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World) “I play Pandemonium! This card means that I don’t pay LP for my Archfiends. I also summon my Infernalqueen Archfiend in DEF mode. (900/1500) One Sillva attacks Sophia’s Lord of D. while my other Sillva attacks Greg’s Avian. My Zure attacks Greg’s LP directly!”
“Hold it Dartz!” yelled Greg. “I activate Hero Barrier! I negate the attack of Sillva, which means your Zure has to attack my Avian!”
Greg – 7200 Sophia – 6400 Violet – 8000 Dartz – 8000
Greg doubled over in pain as he lost his LP. He looked at his left wrist to see a cut. This means nothing, thought Greg. Greg then drew a card after he regained his strength. (Shadow Spell) “I activate Miracle Fusion! I remove Avian and Burstinatrix from play to summon E-Hero Flame Wingman! (2100/1200) I attack you Zure, which deals 300 damage to your LP. Then Flame Wingman’s effect deals another 1800 damage!”
Greg – 7200 Sophia – 6400 Violet – 8000 Dartz – 5900
Sophia drew her card. (Ring of Destruction) “I set my draw card face down”
Violet then drew her card. (Archlord Zerato) “I summon my Warrior of Zera in ATK mode. (1600/1600)”
Dartz then drew his Sujin. “During my Stand-by Phase, I increase Infernalqueen’s ATK by 1000. (1900/1500) I summon Sujin. Then I activate Dark World Lightning and my target will be Sophia’s face-down card! I also discard one card through Dark World Lightning’s effect, which allows me to Special Summon Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World! (2300/1400) One Sillva attacks Greg’s Flame Wingman.” Dartz watched with malice a Greg clutched his left wrist as he lost more LP.
Greg – 7000 Sophia – 6400 Violet – 8000 Dartz – 5900
Greg, after the pain subsided, drew his card. (E-Hero Clayman) “I summon E-Hero Clayman in DEF mode. (800/2000)”
Sophia drew her card (Dragon’s Rage) and decided to go on the offensive. “I set my draw card face-down. My two Dragons attack your two Sillvas.”
Greg – 7000 Sophia – 6400 Violet – 8000 Dartz – 4500
Violet drew her next card. (United We Stand) “I set my draw card face-down”
Dartz drew is next card. (Graceful Charity) “I increase Infernalqueen’s ATK by 1000 (2900/1500) and switch her to ATK mode. I play Graceful Charity. I draw three cards (Sanga the Thunder, Kazegin, and Dark World Lightning). I discard two cards. (Dark World Lightning and Zure) I then send Sujin and the two cards I drew to the graveyard to summon my GATE GUARDIAN from my deck! (3750 ATK) My monster attacks Violet’s St. Joan!”
Greg – 7000 Sophia – 6400 Violet – 8000 Dartz – 4500
Greg drew his next card. (E-Hero Sparkman) “I summon E-Hero Sparkman in ATK mode. (1600/1400) I then play Polymerization! I fuse my two monsters together to summon E-HERO THUNDER GIANT! (2500/1500)”
Sophia drew her card. “I play Dragon’s Treasure. I equip it to one of my monsters to increase it ATK and DEF by 300. (Stats: 3300/2800)
Violet drew her next card. (Mudora) “I sacrifice my Warrior of Zera to Special Summon my Archlord Zerato! (2800 ATK). I then summon Mudora in ATK mode. Since I have 3 Fairies in my Graveyard, Mudora gets an extra 600 ATK! (2100/1800)”
Dartz drew his next card. (Chthonian Blast) “I set one card face-down. I also increase Infernalqueen’s ATK by 1000. (3900/1500) My Gate Guardian attacks Sophia’s non-boosted monster and then my Infernalqueen attacks her other monster. I then activate Chthonian Blast. I destroy Mudora and we all take 1050 damage!” Dartz watched as Greg fell on his knees, his wrist cut open. He also saw Violet and Sophia help him to his feet and stay by him, just in case he fell again. Interesting, Dartz thought, those three are bound by friendship. But I believe that there is something more between Greg and Violet. Let’s test that, shall we?
Greg – 5950 Sophia – 3700 Violet – 6950 Dartz – 3400
Greg was panting as he drew his next card. (Hero Barrier) He didn’t know why his wrist kept on splitting open. “I set one card face-down”
Sophia stayed close to her cousin as she drew her next card. (Mirror Force). “I summon Divine Dragon in ATK mode. (1500/1000) I then activate Ring of Destruction, which deals 1500 direct damage to all our LP” she finished as she caught Greg as he fell, his wrist bleeding harder than ever. “Sorry” she whispered as she helped him to his feet.
Greg – 4450 Sophia – 2200 Violet – 5450 Dartz – 1900
Violet was about to do her turn, but she fell too! Greg managed to catch her before she fell, however. He didn’t know what happened, but he vowed to defeat Dartz, no matter the cost. When he turned to Dartz, he was already doing his turn.
Violet is now disqualified
Dartz drew his next card. (Poison of the Old Man) “I play Poison of the Old Man, therefore increasing my LP by 1000. My Infernalqueen also gets an extra 1000 ATK due to its effect. My Infernalqueen attacks Greg’s Thunder Giant while my Gate Guardian attacks Sophia directly.” Dartz watched in satisfaction as Sophia crumpled to the floor and while Greg fell to the floor, twitching and shuddering in pain. So, Dartz thought. It’s only me and Greg. At last, that boy will learn his origins
Greg – 2050 Sophia – 0 Dartz - 2900
Well, Sophia has lost, Violet has been disqualified, and Greg and Dartz are left. Greg has a weird cut. What is this cut? What did Dartz mean? Will Greg win on his own?
