Episode 13: “Academy ABCs”
Today was report card day at Duel Academy and Greg was confident that he would get a good grade. He was the best in most of his classes, he had won more duels than any other student, and he was smart! What could go wrong?
“Hey Greg!” called a voice from behind him. Greg turned to see his girlfriend Violet running towards him with two envelopes in her hand. “Here is your report” she said, gasping for breath.
Greg opens his report card. “WHAT??!!!!” he shouted.
Sophia, who was down the hall and Greg’s cousin, heard him and ran toward him. “What’s wrong?’ she asked.
“LOOK!” Greg roared, shoving the paper in his cousin’s face. Sophia and Violet gasped when they saw that Greg had Fs in everything and that it was graded by Dr. Crowler! Dr. Crowler was one of the best teachers in the entire school and he hated Sophia, Greg, and Jaden Yuki, who was the principal of the school. When Sophia and Violet turned to face Greg, they saw that he was sprinting down the hall.
“Where are who going?” asked Sophia, panting beside her cousin.
“I’m going straight to Jaden” replied Greg firmly. “I’ve had enough of Crowler trying to throw me out of school. I’m going to reverse the tables and kick Crowler out of this school!”
In a little while, they reached Jaden’s office. “Good morning” said the secretary. “May you please wait out here? Jaden is in the middle of a meeting with-“
“I DON’T GIVE A HOOT!” roared Greg and barged into Jaden’s office with his friend’s right behind him.
“Jaden, I need to talk to you!” Greg said. Then he did a double take and Violet gasped. Standing in the room were Crowler and Yugi! “Forgive us” Greg mumbled, bowing slightly to Yugi.
“No problem” the former King of Games said cheerfully.
“What is the meaning of this?” Jaden asked.
“Crowler gave me a failing grade! That’s what happed!” Greg shouted.
“What do you have to say about this Crowler?’ Jaden asked.
“I did do it.” Crowler said proudly. “He didn’t deserve anything-“
“SHUT UP YOU MORON!” roared Greg as he struggled against Sophia, who was holding him back as Greg tried to jump on Crowler. “Jaden, I demand that you kick Crowler out of the school. NOW!”
“Hold on there!” Crowler cut in. “You are a lowly, insignificant-“
“I said SHUT UP! YOU ARE A WORTHLESS TEACHER WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF! PHARAOH, PRESS IT NOW!”
A brown cat suddenly appeared and pressed a red button, which sent Crowler through a trap door!
“MMMMMOOOOOOOMMMMyyyyyyyyyy!” CRASH!
It took all of Greg, Yugi, Sophia, Jaden, and Violet’s self-control to prevent them from laughing. “Okay, what next?” asked Jaden while he shook with laughter.
“I want my proper grades” said Greg while he kneeled on the floor, laughing
.
“How about this?” Yugi piped up. “I duel Greg. If he wins, he gets his proper grades. If I win, he keeps his grades. Fair enough?”
“Let’s duel!” said Greg, putting his duel disk and deck into position.
Greg – 8000 Yugi – 8000
The two duelists drew five cards. Greg’s hand consisted of Avian, Sparkman, Burstinatrix, Untied We Stand, and Scapegoat. Yugi’s hand had Dark Magician, Time Wizard, Mystical Elf x2, and Mirror Force.
Greg drew his card. (Miracle Fusion) “I summon Elemental Hero Avian in ATK mode! (1000/1000) I then throw down two face-downs! (Miracle Fusion and Scapegoat)
Yugi drew his card next. (Dark Magician) “I discard my draw card to draw another card.” (Black Luster Soldier-Envoy of the Beginning) “I summon Mystical Elf in DEF mode! (1200/2000?) I then set one card (Mirror Force) face down.”
Greg drew his card. (D. Tribe) “I activate the Spell Card known as Miracle Fusion! I remove Avian and Burstinatrix from play to summon ELEMENTAL HERO FLAME WINGMAN! ATTACK NOW!”
“Activate Mirror Force! Wingman is destroyed!”
Yugi drew his next card. (Dark Magician) “I summon another Mystical Elf! I sacrifice my two monsters to summon DARK MAGICIAN! (Do I need to give his stats?!) DARK MAGICIAN, ATTACK WITH DARK MAGIC ATTACK!”
Greg – 5500 Yugi – 8000
Greg didn’t really flinch as he drew his next card. (E-Hero Necroshade)” I discard my draw card to draw another card.” YES! Greg thought with elation. “I summon E-Hero Neo in ATK mode! (2500 ATK)”
Yugi drew at his next card. (Dark Magician). “I summon Time Wizard. Activate his ability!” Suddenly, a thousand years flash by. “I now control DARK SAGE!”
“Yugi! Thanks to you my E-Hero Neo gains an extra 1000 ATK until the end of turn! ATTACK DARK SAGE WITH SPACE BLAST!”
Greg – 5500 Yugi – 7900
Yugi drew his next card. (Dark Magician Girl) “I sacrifice my Time Wizard to summon Dark Magician Girl! My monster gets an extra 600 attack since I have 2 Dark Magicians in my graveyard! (2600 ATK) DARK MAGICIAN GIRL, ATTACK WITH DARK BURNING ATTACK!”
Greg – 5400 Yugi – 7900
Greg drew his next card. (E-Hero Bubbleman) “I summon Elemental Hero Bubbleman in DEF mode! I get to draw two cards thanks to Bubbleman’s special ability! (Queen’s Knight and Jack’s Knight)”
Yugi grinned at his draw card, which was Sage’s Stone. “I play Sage’s Stone! This card allows me to Special Summon a Dark Magician from my hand or deck! Dark Magician, attack Bubbleman and Dark Magician Girl, attack Greg directly!
Greg – 2800 Yugi – 7900
Greg drew his next card. (Swords of Reveling Light) “I play Swords of Reveling Light! That means you cannot attack for 3 turns. I then summon Queen’s Knight in ATK mode! (Sword turn 1)”
Yugi drew his next card. (Sorcerer of Dark Magic) “I sacrifice my two monsters to summon Sorcerer of Dark Magic! (3200 ATK)”
Greg was starting to get excited: he had drawn his King’s Knight! “I summon Jack’s Knight! (End of turn 2)”
Yugi drew his card. (Zero Gravity) “I set one card face down”
“YES!” said Greg, punching the air. “I SUMMON KING’S KNIGHT! I THEN PLAY POLYMERIZATION! I FUSE MY THREE MONSTERS TO SUMMON ARCANA KNIGHT JOKER! ATTAKCK HIS SORCERER OF DARK MAGIC WITH ROYALTY SLASH!”
Greg – 2800 Yugi – 7300
Yugi smiled as he drew his card (Monster Reborn) “I remove Dark Magician and Mystical Elf from play to summon BLACK LUSTER SOLDIER – ENVOY OF THE BEGINNING! (3000/2500) I set one card face down. I then equip my monster with Mage Power, which increases its attack by 1000! Black Luster Soldier, attack Joker now!
Greg – 1800 Yugi – 7300
Greg was growing desperate. He needed something good! He drew his card. (Mirror Force) “I set one card face down.”
Yugi drew his card. (Dark Magician of Chaos) “Black Luster Soldier, Attack Greg directly!
“I activate Mirror Force! Black Luster Soldier is destroyed!”
Greg drew his card. (Draining Shield) “I summon Elemental Hero Sparkman in ATK mode! (1600/1400) I set one card face-down. Sparkman attacks you directly.”
Greg – 1800 Yugi – 5700
Yugi then did his turn. “I activate the Spell card Monster reborn to bring back my Dark Magician! “I then play my draw card: DEDICATION THROUGH LIGHT AND DARKNESS! I sacrifice my Dark Magician to summon DARK MAGICIAN OF CHAOS! ATTACK!”
Greg – 600 Yugi – 5700
Greg drew his next card. (Avian) “I summon Elemental Hero Avian in Attack mode! (1000/1000)”
Yugi grinned as he drew his card. “I play Mystic Plasma Zone! It increases the ATK of all Dark monsters by 500 points! (Chaos: 3300 ATK) DARK MAGICIAN OF CHAOS, ATTACK AVIAN RIGHT NOW!”
“Activate Draining Shield! My LP gets a 3300 point boost!”
Greg – 3900 Yugi – 5700
Greg drew his next card: Miracle Fusion! “I play a card known as Miracle Fusion! I remove Sparkman, Avian, and Bubbleman from play so I can summon my signature card: ELEMENTAL HERO TEMPEST! (2800/2800) I then equip it with United We Stand, which increases its attack and defense by 800 points! (3600/3600) TEMPEST, ATTACK WITH THUNDERBUBBLE TORNADO!”
Greg – 3900 Yugi – 5400
Yugi drew his next card. (Mystical Elf) “I summon Mystical Elf in DEF mode”
Greg drew his next card. (Polymerization) “I set one card face-down.”
Yugi was happy: He had drawn his Dark Renewal! “I play Dark Renewal! I sacrifice my Mystical Elf to bring back my Dark Magician Girl in ATK mode! (3400 ATK due to Mystic Plasma Zone and 3 Dark Magicians in Graveyard)”
Greg grinned: he had drawn his Buster Blader! Just one more card, Greg thought. “Tempest, attack Dark Magician Girl!
“Activate Zero Gravity! All monsters are switched to DEF mode!”
Greg now realized he had won: He had drawn his Dark Magician! “I activate Polymerization! I fuse Buster Balder and Dark Magician together to form DARK PALADIN, THE ULTIMATE MAGICAL SWORDSMAN! (2900 ATK) I also switch Tempest back into ATK mode. I then activate these other cards: Scapegoat and D. Tribe! Scapegoat gives me 3 tokens and D. Tribe turns all monsters on my side of the field to Dragon types! Since I have 5 Dragons in play, Dark Paladin gets an extra 2500 ATK points! (5400 ATK) DARK PALADIN AND E-HERO TEMPEST ATTACK!
Greg – 3900 Yugi – 0
“YES!” shouted Greg, Violet, and Sophia. Greg and Yugi then looked at each other in shock: Greg was the King of Games!
“I…don’t…believe…it…” said Greg. “I am the KING OF GAMES!”
Jaden looked pleased. “Well, I guess I’d better correct Greg’s grades and plan something special: KARAOKE NIGHT!”
“YAY!” squealed Greg, Sophia, and Violet.
Back in Greg, Violet, and Sophia’s room, everyone was choosing a song when Jaden exclaimed “Ha! Found it!” Jaden then walked to the front of the room, took a deep breath, and began to sing:
“Chillin’ out with your crew in the schoolyard
Finding trouble, were never looking too hard
Were back at class they never taught us this!
There something’s you gotta learn to hit or miss!”
“Tough times! Hard Climbs!
We’ll take ‘em on together!
Right now! LET’S GO!
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX! Generation Next!”
“Game on! Getcha game on!
Come on, you better play your cards right!
Game on! Getcha game on!
We’ll make the grade and win this fight!”
(Jaden then looks back at his life during the guitar solo: Beating Crowler with Flame Wingman, Losing to Zane…)
“We’ll make the grade somehow
YEAH!
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX!

Everyone in the area clapped. Jaden took a very dramatic bow. “Thank you, thank you”
Sophia grinned. “My turn!” She then stood up and began singing.
Later: she was still doing it! (Encore!)
“’Cause I’m on my way to somewhere better!
I’m further everyday. I’m on my way!
It could take forever, but everything can today!
‘Cause I’m on my way!”
“While song was going, flashed of Sophia’s duels kept coming: Her summoning Ultimate Dragon Rider, defeating Marik…)
Violet looked at Greg. “Shall we…?”
Greg smiled. “You bet!”
The couple stood up, held hands, and began to sing…
(Later)
“Wherever! Whenever! Baby!

The couple took a bow. Then Greg motioned to Sophia to join them. The three then sang the final song of the night:
