Yu-Gi-Oh! Battle of the Heavens

Episode 21: “Divided We Fall, Part 2”

Greg stared at his father, Dartz. They were dueling inside the Seal of Orichalcos, but Dartz’s monsters weren’t getting a 500 ATK point boost. Greg looked at the Seal again. Yes, the runes on it were very different. That meant that this Seal was here for a different purpose.

Greg drew his next card. (Poison of the Old Man) “I set one card face-down”

Dartz drew his next card. (Emes the Infinity) “I sacrifice my two monsters to summon Emes the Infinity! (2800 ATK I think)”

At least he is showing me some mercy, Greg thought as he drew his next card. (Scapegoat) “I set one card face-down”

Dartz drew his next card. (Sillva) “Farwell son. EMES THE INFINITY, ATTACK!”

“Activate Scapegoat! I now have four… (Emes then destroys one of them)…no, three Sheep tokens.”

“But since it destroyed a monster, Emes gets another 500 points.”

Greg drew his next card. (Polymerization) “I set one card face-down. I then activate Poison of the Old Man. My LP are increased by 1000 points.”

Greg – 2250                 Dartz – 2700

Dartz drew his next card. (Infernalqueen Archfiend) “I summon Infernalqueen Archfiend in DEF mode. (900/1500) Emes the Infinity attacks your Scapegoat and Emes gets another 500 ATK. (3800 ATK)”

Greg drew his next card. (Queen’s Knight) “I summon my Queen’s Knight. I then activate Swords of Revealing Light!”

“Greg!” Dartz called out. “Have you noticed anything different about the Seal?”

“The runes are different. So What?”

“When I win, the runes will activate an old Atlantean spell. The spell to unravel time.”

Greg felt like his heart had jumped into his throat. “You mean…?”

“Yes. Pretty soon, there won’t be a past, present, or future. Tine will be unraveled. I will rule. And you won’t be able to stop me!”

Dartz drew his next card. (Pandemonium) “I play Pandemonium. This card allows me to skip the Archfiend cost. I increase Infernalqueen’s ATK by 1000 and switch it to ATK mode. (1900/1500)”

Greg drew his next card. (Jack’s Knight) “I summon my Jack’s Knight”

Dartz drew his next card. (Terrorking Archfiend) “I summon Terrorking Archfiend. Infernalqueen gets an extra 1000 ATK.”

Greg drew his next card. (King’s Knight) “I summon my King’s Knight. Then I activate Polymerization. I fuse my three monsters together to form ARCANA KNIGHT JOKER, THE ULTIMATE ROYAL SWORDSMAN! And since Sword’s effect has stopped…JOKER, ATTACK HIS TERRORKING ARCHFIEND!”

“Activate Mirror Force! All your monsters are destroyed!”

Greg felt dizzy. He had no monsters left. Dartz had three. And they could all beat him.

Dartz didn’t even bother looking at his draw card. “EMES THE INFINITY, ATTACK!”

Greg watched as Emes the Infinity’s eight swords came rushing out to meet him. Before they hit. Greg murmured a few words: Telling Violet he loved her, Telling Sophia that he will miss her…

Suddenly, a voice shouted “GREG!” Greg knew who the voice was, even as Emes finished his attack.

It was Sophia.

Greg – 0                       Dartz – 2700

“AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!” Greg screamed as time unraveled around him. The room turned all twisty, Dartz was laughing, Sophia was screaming…

And all because of him.

Suddenly, a hand flew out to him and Sophia. It dragged them towards a portal. But they didn’t see anything: they were unconscious.

A minute later, Greg found himself floating. He had lost. For the first time ever, he had lost.

Why? Greg asked himself. Why was I stupid enough to think I could beat Dartz on my own? Then the answer came to him: because he thought he was invincible. He was too cocky.

Greg was alone. He was scared of being alone. He thought of Violet, who had comforted him, held him, and laughed with him. They had a bound together, a bond stronger than anything.

And he broke it. With one act, he broke it.

Greg felt the tears in his eyes. He didn’t bother to hold them back. It was his fault, HIS fault…

For the second time that day…or whatever…he felt a comforting hand on his shoulder. Greg, though teary eyes, saw that it was Sophia. He had a million questions, but he couldn’t bring himself to answer them. He was too tired, too guilty. He kept on crying.

Sophia had never seen Greg like this before. Not even the time Violet had been kidnapped had she seen something like this. She sensed that there was something behind it all. But she didn’t know what! All she could do was comfort him. “Shhh” she whispered. “It’s okay”

“No it isn’t” came the muffled reply. “This is my fault. Leave me alone.”

Sophia nodded and went a couple spaces away. She remembered that conversation she had with Violet when they discovered that Greg was missing…

(Flashback)

“Where’s Greg?” Violet asked, scared.

“I think he went to find Dartz.” Sophia said. “I’ll go find him.” She turned to go.

Violet put an arm on Sophia’s shoulder. “Sophia?”

“Yeah?”

“If you can’t bring him back, do two things for me: 1. Tell him that I love him, and 2. Watch over him for me.”

Sophia smiled. “Don’t worry. I will”

(End flashback)

Sophia looked at her cousin once more. He was asleep. She went over to him and kept him close. Yes, she would keep him close. She would do it for Violet, for Greg, for everyone.

Because there was only one way to beat Dartz: together.
