Episode 17: “Slicing and Dicing”
Violet was content.
She was sitting down the water’s edge with her boyfriend, Greg. They were moving closer…closer…closer…
Then the scene blew up in a million fragments.
It was pouring down rain. Thunder boomed in the distance. Lightning lit up the sky. Violet was soaking wet. She was hanging precariously on an outside ledge of Duelist Academy. She was trying to reach the top of the building where Marik was hiding along with Greg.
Violet took a deep breath and grabbed the next ledge. Using her hands, she pulled herself up to the final ledge. The next ledge was the edge of the Academy’s top. Violet jumped and grabbed the ledge. Her bones were aching from the effort. She, with superhuman effort, pulled herself onto the top of the Academy. She took several breaths to calm her beating heart. Then she heard a voice.
“Welcome”
Violet stood up to see Marik standing across her. He gestured upwards. She looked up and gasped: Above them, Greg seemed to be bound to the sky with Shadows!
Violet snapped her duel disk into place. Marik followed in suit, but while that was happening, he sent the game to the Shadow Realm!
Violet – 8000 Marik – 8000
Violet and Marik drew 5 cards. Violet’s hand was good: Mudora, Agent of Force-Mars, Sanctuary in the Sky, and 2x Poison of the Old Man!
Unfortunately, Marik also had a good hand: Gravekeeper’s Spy, Magical Thorn, Coffin Seller, and 2x Needle Worm!
Violet drew a card. (Agent of Judgment-Saturn) “I play Sanctuary in the Sky! This card prevents me from taking damage whenever a Fairy-type monster is destroyed. Then I play TWO Poison of the Old Mans! My LP are increased by 2000! Then I summon Agent of Force-Mars! Since Sanctuary of the Sky is in play, my monster’s ATK points are increased by 2000 (2400/2300)!”
Violet – 10000 Marik – 8000
Marik drew a card. (Sinister Serpent) “I place two cards face-down. I then place a monster face-down.”
Violet drew her card. (Lightning Vortex) “I play Lightning Vortex! I discard my Mudora to destroy all monsters on your side of the field!”
“You just activated Needle Worm’ effect! Please discard the top five cards of your deck! Then I activate Magical Thorn and Coffin Seller! Since your discarded 5 cards, Magical Thorn deals 2500 damage to you! And since two of those cards were creatures, Coffin Seller deals 600 damage to you!”
Violet – 6900 Marik – 8000
“My turn isn’t over yet Marik! Agent of Force-Mars, attack Marik’s LP with Flaming Hammer Strike!”
Violet – 6900 Marik – 7600
Marik drew his next card. (Lightning Vortex) “I’ll set one card face-down”
Violet drew her next card. (Emergency Provisions) “I play Emergency Provisions! I send Sanctuary in the Sky to the Graveyard to increase my LP by 1000.”
That was a bad move Violet!” Marik crowed. You don’t get Mars’s ability!”
Violet didn’t listen. “Mars, attack Marik’s LP directly!”
Violet – 7900 Marik – 7200
Marik drew is next card. (Mirror Force) “I set one card face-down. I then activate Lightning Vortex. I discard Sinister Serpent to destroy all your creatures!”
Violet drew her next card. (Sanctuary in the Sky) “I play another Sanctuary in the Sky! Then I summon Mudora. Since I have 3 fairies in my graveyard, Mudora gets another 600 ATK! (2100/1800) MUDORA! ATTACK MARIK’S LP DIRECTLY!”
Violet – 7900 Marik – 5100
Marik drew his next card. (Needle Worm) “I put one monster face down.”
Violet drew her next card. (Mars) “I summon Agent of Force-Mars! Since I have 2800 more LP than you, Mars gets an extra 2800 ATK! (3200/3100) Mudora attacks your face-down while Mars attacks you directly!”
“I reveal Needle Worm! Good-bye another five cards! (Poison of the Old Man, Wingweaver, Emergency Provisions x2, and Gravity Bind) Since you discarded 5 cards, Magical Thorn deals 2500 damage and Coffin Seller deals 300 damage to you!”
Violet – 5100 Marik – 1900
Violet drew her next card. (Saturn) “I sacrifice my two monsters to summon Agent of Judgment-Saturn!” (2400 ATK)
Marik drew his next card. (Card Destruction) “I play Card Destruction. We each discard our hands and then we draw that same amount. And since you discarded one card, and since it was a creature, Magical Thorn deals 500 damage to you and Coffin Seller deals 300 damage to you. You get to draw one card while I draw one.”
Violet – 4300 Marik – 1900
Violet drew her card. (Forgiving Maiden) “I summon The Forgiving Maiden. Saturn attacks you directly.”
“Activate Mirror Force! All your monsters are destroyed”
Marik drew his card. “I play Gravekeeper’s Spy. Then I Special Summon a Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier due to my Spy’s ability. My monsters attack you directly.”
Violet – 1400 Marik – 1900
From above, Greg was watching the proceedings. He wanted to help, but he was bound too tightly. That must be something I can do! Greg thought. He looked down again. Violet had played a card face-down. She was in trouble and everyone knew it.
Suddenly, Greg’s scar started to glow. A pool of green light flowed over him. Suddenly, the shadow bindings snapped open and Greg was falling and activating his duel disk at the same time.
Violet realized she had lost. She had failed. Suddenly, right when Spear Soldier’s weapon flashed towards her, a bright light flashed above her. Violet looked up to see E-Hero Avian speeding down to her. Right when Spear Soldier’s weapon made contact, Avian intercepted the attack and was destroyed. Then Greg landed next to her and she caught him before he stumbled and fell.
Greg’s face was determined. He lifted his left sleeve to reveal a scar. It started to glow with green light. Then green electricity danced along the length of Greg’s duel disk. Suddenly, a great green dragon appeared. Greg smiled grimly. “Marik, I’d like to introduce you to Timeaus. I then play Miracle Fusion to play E-Hero Tempest. I fuse Tempest and Timeaus together to play Tempest Dragon! ATTACK!”
Tempest Dragon released a whirlwind of energy that reduced Marik’s LP to 100. Greg turned to Violet. “Your turn”
Violet drew her next card. “I play Monster Reborn! I revive my Forgiving Maiden. I then activate Polymerization. I fuse Marie the Fallen One and Forgiving Maiden together to summon St. Joan! ST. JOAN! ATTACK MARIK WITH HOLY BLADE STRIKE!”
Violet – 1400 Marik – 0
Violet crumpled under exhaustion. Greg caught her. “Easy” he said soothingly. “You’ve been through a lot.”
Violet snuggled close to him. “I knew you’d be all right” she whispered.
“I’ll always protect you Violet. I’ll never leave your side.”
“I’ll never leave your side Greg. I’ll always protect you.”
The couple then went to the elevator. While they were waiting for it to stop, Greg explained to Violet what had happened. During the conversation, Violet held a silencing hand up.
“What is it?” Greg asked.
“ACHOO” Violet sneezed.
Greg laughed. “Well, I guess I know what you’ll be doing for the next few days.”
“Yeah: Eating chicken soup and resting in bed.” Violet sniffed.
Greg gathered her into his arms. “Who do you think will be with you the most?”
Violet moved closer to him. They were almost touching now. “You” she whispered as she moved even closer.
Greg moved closer to until they kissed. Unfortunately for them, at that time the elevator had stopped. Greg and Violet walked out towards the Critias dorm together. As they will be always: together forever.
