Welcome to my English Page! From here you can access the various courses I have for this subject by clicking the links below. I currently study three courses: Literature, Composition, and Grammar. Literature is a mix of World Literature--which we bought from The Great Courses company--and Vocabulary. World Literature covers various works of literature, from ancient times such as The Epic of Gilgamesh to great contemporary authors of Western Literature like Joseph Conrad or Albert Camus. The Vocabulary combines with Required Reading and Literature: I read books that are listed in my workbook--which is provided by the Perfection Learning company--and then I do exercises based on a random excerpt. I also have Required Reading, which can either be a book for Vocabulary or just the latest book in the Alex Rider series (Mom also has War and Peace on my list for this year). I must write a brief report for each book read. Last year I read around 40 books! Composition includes the work I do with my writing tutor and Memorization. Right now, my tutor and I are working together on a novel. I write it and he corrects it and gives me feedback. He also gives me other small exercises based on my performance on the latest chapter. For Memorization, I write a poem or text once a month, spend the month memorizing it, then I recite it at the end of the month. Grammar for this year is still in the works; I will post more information as soon I as I have any. In extracurricular activities, I participated in a Creative Writing class with Kathleen Palmer at the Royal Academy in Gray, ME. In these classes, I improved my creative writing by completing exercises that stretched my imagination. My formal writing has also improved by writing essays and exploring the mechanics of writing. I love the time I spend with Kathleen and my "classmates", and through Kathleen I have discovered my career of choice: writing.
