The picture below is a beautiful picture of "Laura", a large artificial halo in a valley in France that will be made up of 42000 miniature aluminum halos, which stands for the 42000 people who live in the valley. The large halo covers 5000 square meters.
The man who came up with the project was Marc Bietry (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/marc.bietry/), a sculptor of Lyon, France. According to http://www.solidart.net/SolidGB.htm, "the chief aim of this project is to do something together, to be open to others, creating bonds of friendship, new relationships and bearing in mind, the involvement, above all, of those less-favored ones among us." (Note: The link above is the English version of the site. To find the French version, go here: http://www.solidart.net/presentation.html) With this project, people all over the world are coming together to form new relationships, and to fight against individualism and misery. Even the workshop that was opened up to help out in the creation of Laura is following the chief aim: there were 50 jobs available in the workshop (according to the French site), and those jobs were offered to those who were in need. When they say "in need", they mean those who wouldn't ordinarily get a chance at a job. I think Laura is brilliant idea. It will be a symbolism to what Jesus taught us: give everything you can to the needy, for they need it more than you do. It will motivate people to follow through with their crazy schemes. It will broadcast hope to the world. Most important of all, it will tell others that they are not alone. Soon, my family and I will put our own halos on that mountain. Check back later to see the pictures of our designs. |
