Chapter 1

The Rock Drops

According to legendary scientist Stephan Hawking, for each single universe there are an infinite number of parallel ones. These are connected, supposedly, by black holes. However, in this case, there was no black hole.

Our story begins in the ruins of a city. Flames licked the heavens, heating the air faster than a microwave oven does a Hot Pocket. Stones and masonry crumbled and crashed to the cracked ground. Screams tore the sky, and bodies lay everywhere, covered in dirt, grime, and most predictably, blood. In the distance you can hear the rat-tat-tat of machine-gun fire.

Sitting in the middle of a bombed-out building where two dirty and beaten-up teenage boys. Both were wearing battle armor and both carried machine guns. Belts of ammo were strapped to their waists, along with wicked sharp knives.

“There’s no where else to run,” remarked one of the boys. He had dark blue eyes and his dirty black hair fell over his eyes.

“This will most likely be our final stand,” agreed his companion. He had turtle-green eyes and his brilliant red hair was laced with blood and dirt.

“I wish…” The conversation momentarily halted as pounding footsteps sounded near them. Their grips on their weapons grew noticeably tighter. “I wish,” the black-haired boy continued, “we had a chance to live a normal life. One without war, without death…without all this,” he finished, waving his hand at their bombed surroundings.

Suddenly, bullets whizzed over their heads and crashed into the ruined plaster. Tanned men in armor rushed into the room, spraying the room with machine gun fire.

The two boys rolled behind cover and started to return fire. Suddenly, the first speaker saw a grenade land next to him. Swearing loudly, he picked it up and tried to throw it, but it exploded in his hand, and his world became white.

Elsewhere, in one of those parallel universes, four teenagers were walking down a stone corridor. Each wore black robes that wear bearing a crest depicting a lion. At the front of the pack was a messy-haired boy with green eyes and glasses. On his right was a red-haired boy who was bickering loudly with a bushy-haired girl behind him. On the left of the first male was another redhead whose hair reached the small of her back.

Presently, they approached a hanging portrait of a overly plump woman wearing a hideous pink dress. “Password?” asked the picture of the fat lady.

“Balderdash,” replied the messy-haired boy over his arguing friends.

As the portrait opened, a blinding flash illuminated the whole room. All present shielded their eyes, and despite this they were still blinding. A howling gale blew in their faces, and their eyes were filled with the roars of lions.

When all was silent and still, a startling site greeted the four teens: two newcomers, dressed in leather armor were standing in front of the fireplace. They were incredibly dirty and tired-looking. A red-head whose hair was laced with blood and dirt was half-carrying a black-haired boy who was dripping blood from every orifice.

“Who are you?!” demanded the messy-haired bloke, drawing a wand from inside his cloak.

“Can it wait?!” exclaimed the newcomer. “My friend is going to die!”

“We can’t help you until we know who you are,” replied the first speaker firmly.

Eyeing the group of four, the redhead noted, “Apparently, not from this world.”
