Yu-Gi-Oh! The Four Virtues Episode 25: “Silent Assassin”
The large spacious room was pitch-black. Titanium columns supported the dome above. The floor was made of iron tiles that seemed to shine menacingly, despite the inky blackness. In the middle of the room sat a black throne, upon which a robed man sat, his head resting on his right hand. Two other robed men kneeled before him, heads bowed reverently. “So…” the seated man mused in a silky voice, “it’s true: the Virtuous Ones have returned…exactly as I have foreseen.” “Sir, there have also been rumors that Electra…has fallen.” The two kneeling men stirred slightly, as if they were scared of a reprisal. Their leader chuckled. “Yes…those “rumors” are not merely just; Electra has fallen in battle to a Virtuous One.” He rose and began walking across the room, his men falling into step behind him. “Everything is going to plan. The Virtuous Ones have returned. Electra was a mere pawn, a bait to attract their attention. I—we—have been preparing for this moment for millennia. We have the numbers to overpower them…but we are not ready yet.” The trio had stopped in front of a stone tablet mounted on the chamber wall. On it was a circle with three card slots: two on either side of the diameter, and one in the exact center of the circle. “But sir, you just said—” “I know what I said!” snapped the first speaker. “But we need our power! The Virtuous Ones have their Dragons, but we are woefully unprepared weapon-wise! We need more time!” The man withdrew a card from inside his robes and placed it in the center slot. Immediately, the circle glowed with white and black light, and the two men behind him had to shield their eyes. “In order to get that time,” the man continued, “I need you two to draw them out. Fight them. Get them to use their energy, as it will speed up the process.” The two men bowed to their leader. “Yes, my liege.” When the two had departed, their leader chuckled loudly. “Those fools…if only they knew…” Still laughing he kept his gaze trained on the inputted card, which depicted a white and black dragon.

Toshiro was lying on his back in his parent’s garage, frowning at the underbelly of his D-Wheel. Kaiba Corp had returned the pieces a month ago, and he was trying to rebuild his motorcycle after it had wrecked during his duel in the Domino City Grand Prix. Toshiro sighed and looked at the exposed mark on his arm. It was a circle circumscribing a star. It represented his heritage, his destiny. He and his three friends had discovered a month ago that they were Virtuous Ones, four beings with incredible powers. They had already defeated their first threat: Sarah Smith had been possessed by a being called Electra, and she had tried to steal the Dragons of Virtue. Toshiro had defeated her in a duel, and the demon had vanished. After the duel, both Sarah and Toshiro—both unconscious—had been sent to the hospital. Toshiro regained consciousness after a few hours, but it took Sarah a week. When she felt better, she told them all she knew: that after Toshiro had returned her deck, she met a strange man in an alleyway. The man had told her something, and then she fainted. That was the last thing she remembered; everything else was a blank. “Toshiro?” The teenage boy tried to bolt upright, but only succeeded in banging his head against his D-Wheel. Cursing loudly and rubbing his forehead, he crawled out and rose to his feet. “Jaya?! Could you please knock next time?!” Jaya Yuki smirked and brushed a lock of brown hair out of her same-colored eyes. She was wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and a red jacket. “Sorry,” she apologized impishly. However, after looking at his appearance, she began blushing furiously. “Uhh…Toshiro? Could you get a shirt on?” Toshiro looked at his naked torso; he had taken it off so he would get hot while working. “Sorry,” he muttered, picking up his black shirt and slipping it over his head. Jaya shook her head, her cheeks still red. “It’s okay…how’s your D-Wheel?” Toshiro looked at his friend, happy for the change of subject. “It’s coming along slowly. I have to scavenge for most of my pieces, but Tokyro is helping out with that. I should have it done by the end of the week.” Jaya sighed and rubbed her right arm. “You didn’t have to fix mine first,” she muttered. Toshiro grabbed both her shoulders and stared deep into her eyes. “Yes, I did. You almost died because of me. Fixing your D-Wheel was merely the first part of my atonement.” “It wasn’t your fault!” “Yes it was!” Toshiro retorted. “I allowed that…thing…to possess me! I almost lost you! I won’t let it happen again!” He was panting heavily, and as he stared at her he started remembering their past together. All those treasured moments…all those emotions… BANG The garage door behind them burst apart, wood shards flying through the air like daggers. Toshiro tackled Jaya and shielded her with his body, listening to the whistle of the projectiles whizzing overhead. When the hailstorm calmed, Toshiro rolled off his friend and leapt to his feet. “What the hell…?!” Standing in the driveway was a well-muscled man clad in white. Two black sashes intersected over his shirt. His white jeans were inlaid with black stripes. A white and black duel disk was strapped to his left arm, and a white cape billowed out behind him. “Toshiro Henry!” he called out. “I challenge you to a duel!” Toshiro glared. “Who are you?!” “You may call me Silence,” the man replied, smirking slightly. “For that’s what will happen to you when I am through with you: you shall be silent.” Toshiro’s eyes narrowed. An assassin…? “Now come!” the man shouted, spreading him arms wide. “Feel the power of the Light, Virtuous One!” Toshiro gasped. “How did you—?” “Toshiro!” Toshiro spun around at Jaya’s called and caught the duel disk flying through the air at him. Strapping it to his arm, he yanked out his deck and slid it into its slot. “DUEL!”

“I’ll go first!” Toshiro announced, adding a sixth card to his hand. “I’ll summon Destiny Hero Disk Commander in DEF mode!” A blue jumpsuit-wearing humanoid appeared and surrounded itself with large silver disks. “Next, I’ll set one card facedown and end my turn.” Silence quickly snapped a card out of his duel disk and added it to his hand. “Appear now, Silent Swordsman LV3!” A little man wearing a large blue blazer appeared. Silver lines filled the seams, and a black belt with a buckle in the shape of an ‘S’ kept the blazer closed. A strange hat covered his copperish hair, and he held a small silver buster sword in his gloved hand. “Next, I activate Level Up, which lets me replace my LV3 with my Silent Swordsman LV5!” Silent Swordsman was enveloped in white light, and he grew to twice his normal size, and his buster sword increased by the same length. (2300 ATK) “Now, how about we give it a new toy: Fairy Meteor Crush!” The buster sword was surrounded by a white aura, and the swordsman twirled it expertly, glaring at the crouching Hero in front of it. “Now Silent Swordsman, attack!” Silence ordered. The robed warrior leapt at his opponent, slicing through the silver disks and Disk Commander’s body. The pixels exploded back with such a forced that Toshiro was forced back a couple steps. “Fairy Meteor Crush lets me deal damage to you equal to the difference between my monster’s ATK you’re your monster’s DEF!”

“Half his Life Points in one turn…” Jaya muttered. “Next, I’ll set one card facedown and end my turn.” Silence smirked as his brown-colored facedown appeared. Toshiro was panting heavily as he drew another card. “I activate my facedown card: Angel Lift!” The facedown card flipped up, revealing a skeleton in black robes being surrounded by an aura of light in a middle of a graveyard. “This card lets me bring back my Disk Commander!” The jumpsuit-wearing hero reappeared, his silver disks arrayed around him in an offensive manner. “When he’s Special Summoned, I can draw two extra cards. “Next, I sacrifice him to summon Destiny Hero Dasher! (2100 ATK)” The silver-armored hero leapt on to the playing field, his arms held out in front of him and his hands balled into fists. “Impressive monster,” Silence praised mockingly, “but it can’t beat my Silent Swordsman.” Toshiro smirked. “At this time, I activate Monster Reborn! Appear once more, Disk Commander!” As the familiar figure appeared, Toshiro added two more cards to his hand; he now had eight in his hand. “Next, I activate Dasher’s ability: by sacrificing my Disk Commander, Dasher gains an extra 1000 points!” Disk Commander dissolved into yellow light and that light surrounded his armored companion. (2100 à 3100 ATK) “Now Dasher, attack!” Toshiro ordered. “Speed Spin Kick!” As the armored hero leapt toward his prey, Silence pressed a button on his duel disk. “Sorry, but my Sakuretsu Armor will destroy your monster before your attack hits!” Just as his foot was a inch away from Silent Swordsman’s face, Dasher was surrounded by a purple aura. With a groan, he exploded, his pixels washing over Toshiro. The teenage boy selected three cards from his hand—leaving him with five—and slid them into his duel disk, their corresponding images appearing on the dueling field. “I set three cards facedown and end my turn.” Silence added a second card to his hand; his previous turn had depleted most of his resources. “Silent Swordsman, attack!” As the white-robed warrior leapt at the defenseless teenager, a hole opened in the floor and Dasher emerged, taking a sword thrust to the chest and exploding.

Toshiro grimaced as a he braced himself against the aftershock of the fight. “I activated my Call of the Haunted card,” he explained, “and brought back Dasher to protect my Life Points.” Silence shrugged. “You can’t hide forever. I’ll just set a card facedown and end my turn.” Toshiro drew his next card and grimaced at the sight of it. Malicious…and I don’t even have a Destiny Draw or Graceful Charity to work with here! “I summon Destiny Hero Diamond Dude in DEF mode! (1600 DEF)” At Toshiro’s call, the green clothed hero with diamonds sticking out of his body appeared, his arms crossed in front of his body. “With his ability, I discard the top card to my deck. If it’s a Normal Spell Card, I can activate it next turn. Now, I’ll set one card facedown and end my turn.” Silence lazily added another card to his hand and pointed at the monster across from him. “You can’t hide behind that pitiful wall! Silent Swordsman, attack!” “Sorry, buddy!” Toshiro called out as the buster sword descended. “You’ve triggered my trap: Hate Buster! With this, both monsters are destroyed and you take damage equal to the attacking monster’s ATK!” Just as the sword touched Diamond Dude’s arm, it shattered and its shards flew in all directions. Both monsters were impaled and they exploded into pixels, all of which washed over Silence.
Toshiro – 1800 Silence – 1700
As the dust settled, a Trap Card was open in front of Silence. “I must thank you for activating your Trap Card, Mr. Henry” he chuckled. “Since my Silent Swordsman was destroyed by a card effect, my Level Reincarnation card will let me choose one ‘LV’ monster in my deck and summon it, ignoring all summoning conditions!” “What?!” Toshiro gasped as a white light began emitting from Silence’s deck. “Come forth, Silent Swordsman LV7!” The assassin yelled. His new monster was taller than LV5, and the bust sword was as long as his body. He was dressed in a fashion similar to his lower leveled counterparts. (2800 ATK) Toshiro slowly drew his next card and smiled. “I activate Destined Fusion!” he cried, holding the card aloft. Silence chuckled darkly. “Think again…” Toshiro gaped as the card he was holding in his hand slowly faded away. “What?!” he exclaimed. “What did you do?!” “I did nothing!” Silence assured. “However, my Silent Swordsman negates all Spell Cards!” Toshiro gritted his teeth. This is bad! Most of my most powerful cards are Spells! I can’t even summon Destiny Dragon now! His gaze wandered over to his facedowns and he smirked. Actually… “Trap Card open!” He ordered. “I activate the effect of my Soul Fusion!” Silence’s eyes widened. “No! A Trap Fusion?!” Toshiro smirked. “By paying 1000 LP and removing Dasher and Disk Commander from the game, I can summon Destiny Hero Street Commander! (3500 ATK)” In a flash of light, a new monster emerged from the vortex: it had gold body armor, with black armor for his legs and hands. His head was protected by a helmet, and he wore mini-jet engines on his thighs and shoulders. Silence chuckled nervously. “Even though you managed to Fusion Summon, it won’t save you from defeat!” “Oh I think it will,” Toshiro replied, “because I activate my final Trap Card: Strength of Virtue!” Silence’s eyes widened as he gazed at the Trap Card depicting a majestic silver dragon surrounded by golden flame. “No!” “With my Trap Card,” Toshiro explained, “I can discard a ‘Dragon of Virtue’ from my deck and give its effect to Street Commander until the end of turn! The card I chose was Destiny Dragon, and his effect states that he gains 1000 ATK for every Destiny Hero in my graveyard! Therefore, Street Commander gains 1000 ATK! (3500 à 4500 ATK)” The Destiny Hero roared and flexed its muscles as golden flame enveloped him. Silence staggered back, nearly tripping over his cloak. “No…this attack will reduce my Life Points to exactly zero!” “Street Commander, attack!” Toshiro yelled. “STREET JUSTICE!” The Hero activated his mini-jets and propelled himself at the swordsman. Bringing his fist back, he delivered a punch that blew apart the hologram on impact and blew Silence clear across the road.
Toshiro – 800 Silence – 0
Toshiro and Jaya ran outside, Street Commander still hovering beside them. “Where did he go?!” Jaya demanded, scanning the houses arrayed in front of them. Toshiro glanced up and down the road. “He’s not here,” he observed. “He vanished.” Jaya turned to look at her friend. “Toshiro, you don’t think…?” He nodded and looked in the direction of their friend Tokyro’s house. “Something’s wrong.”

Alone in that spacious room, the dark figure chuckled as he observed the events in the mortal world. “If only you knew Mr. Henry…” He transferred his gaze to that odd carving, which was glowing with energy. The grin on his face grew wider. “If only you knew…”
